OK I'll buck the trend a little here - Great basses no doubt, I had a VM5 for a while and the build quality was right up there with anything I've played. The only thing for me was that it sounded a little too 'polite' for my taste. After years of playing nothing but growly Fenders, I just found it a little too clean, almost sterile sounding. Mind you, it could have been the fact I was playing it through a Tecamp Puma and BF super compacts (all very transparent).....
Hey Phil are you using those AKG D5's? We have front facing wedges and don't get any feedback, the odd pissed punter falling into us yes, but no feedback

Hi Steve, yes mainly the D5's, feedback rejection is pretty good with them anyway. See you are down at the Marine tonight, I might make it down there if I can escape.
Interesting - I bought myself an AKG D5 and was ribbed by my bandmates for not buying an SM58.

Bastards indeed.

Awesome news! Glad it worked out. That's a good thing about loads of these buy/sell shops being around. If the scrotes use 'em, the nicked stuff doesn't travel very far, and is put on show for a wide audience.

Bass straight into the PA - no DI - Behringer X18
LewisK1975 replied to LewisK1975's topic in General Discussion
All pointing the right way for me I think, I'm certainly not a fiddler, when it's set, I leave it alone unless a trusted source from out front tells me something different... Cheers all, every input is greatly appreciated. -
Bass straight into the PA - no DI - Behringer X18
LewisK1975 replied to LewisK1975's topic in General Discussion
Hey Russ, indeed the PA is fine, there are Mackie 18in subs and JBL PRX tops, which have two 15s and a tweeter each. Monitoring-wise I'm on in-ears (UE900s recommended by your good self) so no worries there..... Cheers dude. -
In my never ending quest for simplicity, I've been thinking about doing the above. Currently I use my TC BH250 head as a DI box, mainly because I really like the spectracomp and I also like the core tone of it anyway. Inputs 1 & 2 on the X18 mixer are hi-z so can take a guitar directly. The X18 has all the EQ you could ever imagine and also has compression available too. Has anyone else done this specifically with the X18/ XR18 / XR16 / XR12? I know I could just give it a go, but we don't do much full volume rehearsal and I'm not going to just leave it to chance on a gig.... Any thoughts appreciated!
Even when I was a teen, I had reservations about guys that ask and want to use other people's rear.
I don't think you're alone on that one. -
My '78 Precision is my longest serving, got it in 2006. Doesn't get out much these days, but it'll be the last one I ever sell. And here, a later pic with a little more arm chamfer wear..

It comes off in chunks, awful stuff. Had it on the 1st Billy Sheehan signature pedal, wasn't on the deluxe model. I just tore off as much as I could and then scraped the rest.

I've used gunstock oil on a sanded body before and that turned out nice. Not sure about a neck though. This was the stuff I used, picked it up at a gun / tackle shop: - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Birchwood-Casey-Tru-Stock-Finish/dp/B01LZG42G0

Bass preamp DI into PA (and no bass amp)? Can it work well?
LewisK1975 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
Cheers Jack. Sounds very straightforward, thanks. Just need to get myself a decent IEM. One follow up query - I'm just a bit concerned on the number of monitor outs that a typical FOH will have and whether there will be spare for IEMs. But I suppose if he has used them all up for the monitors I'm not going to need an IEM anyway as I should be able to hear myself through one of the monitors, right?!
Correct. I've been amp-less on stage for some time and it works well as others have said, but you can run into monitoring issues in different venues. Most FOH guys are used to dealing with folks using IEMs these days, but be aware that there are still some guys around who will moan about providing every band member with a personal IEM mix. I'm speaking from recent experience! -
Hey Fella, hope you are well, glad to see you've still got the Steve harris Sig Bass. Yes they'll work together just fine. That amp will put between 300-350w into the 8ohm cab. So no concerns.
-
Are we going to do the right thing and report the listing? If nothing else to save the poor sap who's bid?
-
Also the 'AMXN' and serial that's been stamped into the neck plate with manual hammer punches, that's a bit of a giveaway.

8/6/17 - PRICE DROP TO £400. Up for Sale or trade is my Ashdown ABM1000. For those who don't know about these, they are basically the EVO3 preamp, paired with a 1000w digital power section. They were all made in the UK. Each individually signed and dated on the internal chassis. According to Mark Gooday, they are actually capable of something more like 1450w, but had their volume and bottom end tamed in testing due to the fact that they destroyed some 8x10 cabs!!! All in all a beast of an Amp, just over the top for my needs and I find myself increasingly being amp-less on stage these days anyway so am predominantly using my TC BH250 as a DI and in-ears. To that end, I would straight trade this for a TC RH750, or, for a BH800/550 with cash my way. For full disclosure, the amp did have to go back to Ashdown, after falling in our Van. Was a simple repair to the power amp, no parts replaced, just something had got dislodged and needed re-attaching, was sent to ashdown on a Monday and received back by Thursday the same week......the amp works perfectly and reliability has not been affected, I gigged it for some time after receiving back with no issues. Comes with a padded slip cover, from 'Hotcovers' I think... Here's the only pic I can find at the moment, with it sitting atop a pair of super compacts. More pictures can be taken depending on interest. Size is standard Ashdown ABM H x W x D (mm) 134 X 474 X 315, weight a very conservative 9.6kg. Here's the Ashdown web page for it - http://ashdownmusic....acy/21/ABM1000/ I'm based in the Bridgend area of South Wales but am always willing to travel. I have a box so shipping is also an option.. See my feedback below and Thanks for looking!

Lets get this back on topic eh guys? Does the OP have an update? This happened to me with a Bike which was stolen from my shed. Turned up in my local Cash generator a while later. I told one of the guys in the shop immediately and he told me what to do. They removed the bike from sale, it was seized by the police, and when I proved I was the rightful owner with my original receipt and gave a statement the police gave it back to me. Took a little time for it all to happen, about 3 weeks from seeing it in CG to getting it back IIRC.
IMHO, if you were asking my opinion what you should be getting for under £200, you should be getting some UE900s. You can currently get them from here - https://www.eglobalc...adphone-en.html - (I know the site looks a bit err... but the goods are legit) for just over £150. That will give you a quad balanced armature setup with a dual bass, single mid and single top. The difference between a single driver (or even the 425 dual driver) and a quad driver is night and day.
I got these (after some discussion with Russ) and confirm they are absolutely brilliant. I also got the SE215s as my first 'toe dip' into IEM's and they were fine, but the UE900s are a different league sound-wise. They were £30 more than that when I got mine too. Harrumph! I will say that comfort-wise, I did prefer the shures, due to the overall shape of the units, it sat very nicely in my ear 'cavity'. The UE900s are not 'uncomfortable' by any means, but the shure's overall shape is more like a custom unit. With the UE900s, you are relying on the tips to hold them in, so getting the right size is very important. Also a plus for the UE900s is that they can (Russ feel free to chip in here) be used as donors for putting into custom moulds quite easily.
