1.
Yes, I remember The Point fondly. Played there a few times, it was always a good night. Sadly missed. I hope the git who complained has an infestation of fleas.
Me too, great venue. Enjoyed many nights there!
2. Depends how many other bands are playing really. If it's just you and then the headliners, you'll probably get anything up to an hour. For instance - my prog band is doing a mini tour next month with 2 other bands, we're on first and getting 40 mins.
3.
And to add insult to injury its one of the few remaining places with carpet everywhere. The one place I always get a great bass sound and some moaning git ruins it. The pub just had some changes made to the band area to improve the experience too. Big shame.
Indeed a terrible shame. Wonder if the same guy would move next to Heathrow and then start complaining about the noise of the Planes taking off / landing. He does have his own noise meter. B3llend.
4. One place I played with a former band a few years ago in Swansea had the strangest thing going on. Large pub split into 2 places, I think it actually used to be 2 separate businesses and they did a large doorway knock-thru type thing. Band played in the smaller room and in the larger room they had a separate DJ playing current music at a similar volume to the band. The strange thing was the only thing separating the two rooms was a curtain pulled across the wide open double door! Basically when you were between songs all you could hear was the disco from next door through the curtain. People only came into the band room if the main room was full!!
5. This really grates doesn't it, move next to a pub well known for having regular music and then start complaining about noise. FFS! Surely if you think it's going to be a problem just don't buy the house in the first place? I despair, I really do.
6. 3 weeks from France, mad really isn't it how these things can vary. When you consider you can get stuff from Thomann in a few days. Different I know, but distance-wise...........
7. And they've got 3 for 2 on Dunlop Super Brights at the moment, ordered yesterday and delivered today. Awesome.
8.
I really like the TV format of having bands doing a short set instead of one song in a circle, like Later... Obviously OGWT and The Tube had this format, but also Channel 4's short lived The White Room from the mid 90s (anyone remember that?) which was a great show. It allows a band to get into the groove a lot more than doing one song and stopping again, which results in a much better performance I think.
Yep, The white room was great, hosted by Mark Radcliffe, ran for 4 series between 94-96 (wikipedia).
9. Take a breath guys. No guitar shop I've ever been in lets you just grab stuff off the wall that you fancy having a go of. And even if I saw someone else doing that, I'd still ask first.
10. Dunlop SuperBright Nickels 45-105 for me. Was looking for a low tension set and various threads and indeed the Dunlop web page were particularly keen to point out that they were surprisingly low tension. Got a set and have been very impressed for over a year with them now. I gig every weekend (always 1, sometimes 2 or 3 gigs) and they last at least 3 months for me. I do always wipe down after a gig though, so YMMV! Can be had for sub £20 on ebay too. Lovely.
11. I guess Ryan Martinie wasn't available? He filled in when Fieldy took time out a few years ago when his mrs had a baby. Or if he was available, he must be pretty annoyed to have a 12yr old asked instead of him.

13.
£650 for one of these! Can't believe it Lewis.... Absolute bargain - giveaway - good job I was already sat down lol
I know Marc, didn't really want to rush it, but a NBD over the weekend has forced my hand.........
14. BUMP For a NBD forced bumper price drop!!!!! Now Sale only and no trades / offers at this price please! And if a meet up is required, I don't want to travel too far please, at this price it's already a steal!
15. Lot of Bass for the Money here people! All the best Tony!
16. Come on ladies & gentlemen, treat yourselves! You know it makes sense! TTT!
17.
I'm not sure what strings Sandberg put on their basses but playability is very good and I'm loving the P tone. Nice neck too, quite shallow.
I like the ones that came on my VM5 too, when I asked Mark Stickley he reckoned that they are GHS Boomers. I did note at the time that you can also buy branded strings on the sandberg website. Here you go, in german though. https://www.cottoncontrol.com/browse/sandberg/de,0,308,0,0.html
18. Especially when paired up with a VBA400, had the opportunity to play through a few of those on shared bills back in the day. Wonderful. Glad I didn't have to shift it though.
19. As far as I know frequency specs are based on the sound of the cabinet as a whole unit, not just the driver itself, but I could be wrong. 2khz is not low for a single 15 cab without tweeter IMHO. Take a Barefaced super compact for instance, single 12, no tweeter, quoted cutoff frequency of 4khz.
20.
As Pete suggested, digital desks bring a very useful toolkit with them... if you take the time to learn them. I'd suggest doing it bit by bit... for the EQ section alone. Having a 31 band EQ - especially if it has a Real Time Analyser (so it will show you the frequencies that are feeding back) is the biggest tool in preventing feedback (obviously second after mic and monitor placement). Defo stick with it - but don't try and do it all in one outing. Get to really know the desk first... then you'll get to the point where you'll wonder how we ever did without them. (If you nail it, that is!)
This is sage advice from a man who's been there and done it. I personally love the X18 now, but I have to admit it was all a bit daunting at first and I wanted to go back to our old analogue mixer. But, we persevered and it paid off in the end. I especially like the ability to save whole mixer setups as 'scenes'. If you play the same venues a few times throughout the year, you can save the setup for that venue as a scene and call it 'dog and duck' for example, then a different scene called 'red lion' etc etc. Then recall the setup the next time you go there. Even if it's not perfect the next time, it'll be a good starting point..
21. I raised an eyebrow yesterday, when trying a Fender in a shop. The guy told me he'd only had it in on Thursday and that I was the first to ask to try it out. Checked the serial and it was a 2015. I guess from the above it's not uncommon. Based on how he said it though, I was expecting it to have at least a 2016 serial. Could be that it's been round a couple of the different stores that this particular chain have in the country...
22. Serious GAS for something in particular at the moment - I need to stay away from guitar guitar. Glasgow or otherwise!
