1. Thanks for all the inputs gentlemen. I actually had a Black Reggie Hamilton a while ago, didn't feel the love for that one, but it was super versatile with all the options on it. Yep Highfox, they look like stack pots to me on that nash, got them on my Flea Jazz and regular RW jazz, I really like how they work. Cheers Karl, haven't managed to get a look at that one yet, but given the spec you suggest it is, I imagine it's a rosewood board, and I'm really after a maple. Could just look for another RW Precision I suppose and mod that one. Leaving my other one alone. Or, perhaps I'll just ask the limelight chap for a quote, couldn't hurt, right?
2.
Unless you have lots of experience and know you can rout out for the J pup in a nice, neat fashion, without needing a plate round the pup to make it look acceptable, I'd leave the RW alone too. Even if you can do a neat job, you'll still have a raw wood edge to the cavity anyway.
No way I'd do it myself! There's a few fine fellas around my way that could manage it though. Very torn on this one, LOOK AT THAT NASH!
3.
The pickguard makes the bass look like a toilet seat to me
Can't un-see that now!
4. Been thinking about getting a P/J bass lately. Google search brought up this Nash PJ (among many others): I think I did a sex wee. Now - question is, do I mod my RW precision to something similar, or go down the limelight type route? Totally torn, I love my RW Precision, but look at that Nash! Thoughts / other suggestions greatly appreciated!
5.
This actually looks like a good cheap pedal for metal if you don't want to splash the cash: Joyo Orange Juice:
Cool - love the flip covers on them too, stops accidental knob fiddlage!
6.
Congrats, the RW series are great instruments.....guitars and basses.
Cheers, I've also added the Flea bass to the collection now!
7.
Yeah, but they just got this... http://bassdirect.co...y_Night_HH.html

Just love the look of that ebony fretboard without the dots.
Ah - Stingrays, my nemesis, had 3 in my time, for me they are the bass that I always think should work for me, whenever I hear someone else playing one, to my ears, they sound amazing. Then I get one, and they just haven't worked for me. I've been mainly a pick player for large parts of my life, perhaps it was that? Pretty much play with fingers exclusively now, perhaps it's time to give a Stingray another go??!!
8. Very nice Kevsy!, got me thinking.........
9. I can't justify having another Fender RW, can I?
10.
Sure, when it was below the strings :-) But it's migrated above the strings now..
When above the strings, it's a thumb rest, for finger playing. When below the strings, it's a tug bar, for thumb playing. That's the general way it's explained, I think! YMMV!
11.
I don't understand what a tug bar is for?
The idea was to hold the tug bar with your fingers and play the bass near the neck with your thumb.
12. I've not used Darkglass personally, but I found the EBS Billy Sheehan pedals to be good for this sort of thing. They actually split your signal after the input and one gets left alone so you always have clean unaffected signal present, you then just mix in as much of the distortion 'channel' as you want. There's also a good youtube vid by Erik Arko comparing Darkglass B3K pedal and the standard / deluxe EBS. Should give you an idea. Good Luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lewt7IQBe4
13. I see the s/h P4 that was at Bass Direct is now sold. Lucky escape for my wallet I think!
14.
The L6 guys on another forum have been teasing. It appears that the Pearce they used to get the model is a "legendary" one. I'm thinking it might be Sheehan's modified one. Giggity.
It is. Confirmed by the man himself to Jon Willis at the NAMM show. There's a post/thread about it on the Yamaha Attitude facebook page.
15.
A previously enjoyed one has just appeared on the Bass Direct used page representing a rather decent saving.... http://www.bassdirec...ll_3tSB_P4.html
This has been tickling my fancy too. No way I can justify the spend at the moment though, and I like all of my Basses too much to let any go in PX at the moment............sigh
16. In our covers band we have a girl singer and do pretty much exclusively modern pop tunes, with a couple of older songs thrown in here and there. Relatively well known in the area for being one of the only bands who have a set like this, amongst a sea of dad rock bands. We still get asked regularly if we do any AC/DC. My usual response is - 'Next week's band'll do that mate'.
17. Everything suggested above will work fine - I've used matchsticks / toothpicks before now and it's worked OK for me.
18. Cover band - Rita Ora - I will never let you down Original band - 1st track of album, 'Heavy situation' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GF_MENE7lY
19. I'd say so Karl - two 12ohm cabs in parallel = 6ohm load presented to the amp.
20. Indeed, very nice, neat setup. Good luck with the wedding too.
21. You could also mount that amp on a pedalboard if you wanted. Granted you'd still need to run a cable to the cab.
22.
Helpful.... This looks like an interesting piece of kit and, providing the £ price doesn't exceed the $, it looks like a good price too! Haven't checked, but do tech 21 sell power amps to accompany this??
Dunno either Kev, I did note with interest though, that a 'trend' that popped up at the NAMM show was pedalboard mountable power amps. Saw it on a youtube vid.
23. Haha, no certainly not the RW Jazz, it was a 75ri Jazz, which had become something of an ornament in the house, so a no-brainer for me really. I'll definitely use the Flea.
24. Yep - couldn't resist Marc - Put up one of mine with every intention of selling, then the Flea was offered in trade. Oops, still got too many...trouble is now, it'll be even harder to let any of them go, I've got a soft spot for all of them. Doh!
25. Delighted to start this one off - met Paul on the M6 last Sunday for a Bass trade. Had a great chat about all things Bass, would not hesitate to deal with Paul again..Cheers Matey!
