1. I just used to take spare strings to gigs, but for the sake of carrying one extra thing out of the house, if a string goes mid song, I can just grab the other Bass off the stand and crack on. Saves any downtime. In our cover band, we do a lot of parties / weddings / events and on those sort of gigs, the clientele can be less forgiving of downtime than the local punters at the dog and duck. I still take a backup for Pub gigs though, it's just habit for me now.
2. The main thing I look for in a gig bag is that it doesn't have a 2 piece handle that that you have to velcro strap together, I despise those for some reason! I like the Fender Metro bag. Can be got for about £38 on ebay from rst music. Pricier elsewhere atm. 1 piece handle!
3. I'd heard of the promethean, but never really looked at them - that's a nice feature set.
4. Porthcawl in South Wales is busting with live music every weekend. Transport links are limited though.
5. Shame this isn't an offer of a spare ticket for tomorrow night, when he's playing about 10mins from my house. Too slow off the mark, Sold Out!
6. Have you thought about contacting them directly? [email protected] may or may not get a reply, but for the sake of just sending an email, it's gotta be worth a try?
7. Lozz has hit on something there - generally when you think you're moving quite a bit, on camera it doesn't look a lot at all, especially in a wide shot. I reckon if you're gonna go for some moves, they'll need to be exaggerated a little for camera...YMMV! Also I reckon it's something the whole band needs to discuss, probably with whoever is doing the filming, you don't wanna be throwing too many shapes if no-one else is!
8. The different knob versions of the unit look exactly the same to me, apart from the knobs of course!
9. Love black hardware on a Bass, especially tuning pegs! They just look awesome against a maple headstock..
10.
I have also made a valiant attempt Lewis PM and bump.
Good luck, and if you get it, please let me have 1st refusal if you decide it ain't for you!
11. Always have 2 Basses at a gig with me. Duty / Standby.
12. A sunburst Roadworn Jazz Unfortunately I'm only in a position to trade at the moment and the last couple that have come up have been sale only / non-receptive to my offer. sigh.......
13. Agreed Karl - Very nice. Would make a beautiful partner to my Sunburst Roadworn P I wonder if the OP is up for a trade? Couldn't hurt to ask, Perhaps a PM is in order......
14. I'm pretty sure the intention of this is for use as a PA sub to go with the FR800's....
15. Thanks Chaps for the replies!
16.
I'm confused. Do you mean cab, or do you mean combo? Hard to see how anyone can recommend a cab if they don't know what amp you are using.
See post#3 - the OP is using a GB streamliner 600 head..
17.
I agree on the Slammers, but that one has an interesting body shape though as well as a J pup and better bridge. So I'd expect it would get more. Do you know any more about the build? I guess the ultimate answer is stick on Evil-bay and see what it goes for; that's the law of economics.
I don't know any more unfortunately, I just think it was a case of them trying to make something a bit more interesting, but ultimately they are still cheap stuff from a time when cheap usually meant nasty as well. Not always the case! YMMV! I'd agree, let eBay decide..
18. Hey all, I've got a YOB (1975) Jazz which is all good and nice and light too, surprisingly. Only thing is the 3 bolt neck - does have a tendency to move a little sideways now and again. What's the preferred method for getting it to stay in place? I won't be converting to a 4-bolt or anything like that, but I've read about putting sand/glass paper in the neck pocket as a possible solution to this? Any thoughts? Ta Muchly!
19. You've already touched on this - but I think my biggest concern would be having to convince any potential future buyer who thought it wasn't right. Then again you do have this thread as evidence..
20. Hey Kert, I reckon far east manufactured, Marlins were east German made up until the late eighties (Slammer and Sidewinder guitars / Basses) and then Korea up until they ceased in the late nineties. I'd say it's not worth a lot unfortunately, certainly sub £100. They were distributed by Hohner IIRC..Entry level stuff, and not a patch on today's entry level stuff either..
21.
Don't send anything until the money is in your bank account, and insist on fully insured and tracked postage so you can follow it all the way.
This is pretty much it. EDIT: and of course only deal with Basschatters!
22. Here's the latest version of mine. Set up to run a Yamaha Attitude using both outputs from the Bass, feeding 2 inputs on the Mixer. Chain is: Woofer (neck) pickup > Micro POG > Spectracomp > Bass Driver > mixer input. P Pickup > EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe > Rolls Crossover > Spectracomp > Para Driver > mixer input. ABY switch is in the drive loop of the EBS to switch the drive channel off / on. No amp on stage for me these days, I use in-ears (Ultimate Ears UE900s).
23.
Used to do it until I started using Superbrights which are pre-stretched. Now I don't bother!
I didn't know this! I've only ever done a press down after the saddle anyway, but good to know!
24. Bought a pedal from Chris last week, all done nice and easy and delivered really well packaged, Cheers Chris!
25. Very Nice. Good price too!
