  1. Happy Birthday for yesterday. GAS is a fickle mistress, for me anyway! One minute I'm fine and the next I'm in physical pain for the shiny I've just seen online. Current GAS for me would probably be a Strat and Tele for my home studio, or the new 40th Anniversary Squier Precision, in the blue colour. I'm a sucker for a pretty P Bass.. I've not spent a massive amount of time on Basschat for the past 2 years either, and that helped with GAS also 😆
  2. I recently picked up one of the Bass Collection Guy Pratt Betsy models, got it s/h with a nice gig bag from Bass Direct for £450. Pretty standard Jazz bass fayre but with EMGs like the actual Betsy. Excellent finish and I really can’t fault it. ‘Cheap’ basses (and guitars) really aren’t what they used to be! I got one of the Harley Benton Les Paul copies from thomann in the summer for £238 delivered and it’s absolutely brilliant!
  3. Excellent transaction with Paul - 1 day delay with the courier - no fault from Paul's side. Great detailed communication from Paul about the Bass which now finds itself in my grubby mitts! As @MB1 says above - deal with confidence folks! Cheers, Lewi
  4. Don't know much about the Fender Yosemite's but certainly for rock you won't go far wrong with Dimarzios....huge output.
  5. I'd say that's a bit of a Result Andy - sure does look purdy!
  6. What Lozz has here is an American Deluxe Precision, this was the top of the range series before becoming the American Elite during 2015 and now the American Ultra series..
  7. I often think I'll be able to play this one day.......one day!
  8. Working from home atm, so got Planet Rock on all day (usually only listen in the car on the way to/from work). The new Bush song is pretty bloody good (to my ears anyway) YMMV!
  9. I've got one of these too - love it. Out of stock at Andertons at the minute though: https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/acoustic-bass-guitars/ibanez-acousticbass-mahogany-parlor-body-aeq-2t-preamp-ibanez-under-saddle-pup
  10. Another +1 for Tru-Oil. I stripped a Bass a few years ago and did it in tru-oil and it worked a treat. Really easy to apply (literally rub on with a cloth). Let dry, rub gently with steel wool & re-coat, repeat until you're happy with how much it shines.
  11. Awesome that you still have it Ed, of all the drives I've done to do Bass deals, coming to meet you in Salisbury was one of the nicest ones!
  12. As everyone has said, you won't go far wrong with either the Squier or the Sire. The big difference between the 2 is one is active (sire) and one is passive (squier). If you don't know the difference (apologies if you do) - 'Active' Basses have an onboard preamp which have bass/middle/treble controls like you'd find on an amplifier and are used for quick access tone changes (saves you going to the amp). They require a battery/batteries for the preamp to work. I think the Sire does have a switch to turn the preamp off though, so it can work like a passive bass. For a first Bass, I'd be more inclined to keep it simple & go with the passive Squier. That Bass just has a volume control for each pickup and an overall tone control. Less controls to fiddle with an just get on with playing! Hope this helps!
  13. When I use my RH750 it goes through a Barefaced two10. Sublime for me!
  14. Just heard Journey's 'Who's crying now' on Planet Rock. Lovely Bass sound on that.
  15. Agree on the modern singlecut Basses, never seen one I really liked. One that always gets me is matching colour headstocks on Basses with Maple fingerboards. Just looks wrong to me. Same Bass with a rosewood/other dark fingerboard, usually very nice. YMMV!
  16. Awesome stuff, and thank you for this thread, super interesting to see what goes into the prep for these sort of events.
  17. A good result in the end then!
  18. I used to put 2 SC's side by side, with a ABM1000 on top, always like how that looked:
  19. I'm not sure a current Squier would have the build quality, feel and overall playability of this. It's just my opinion though, YMMV! Like I said, lovely Bass either way!
  20. Does absolutely nothing for me!, but it would be very boring world if we all liked the same things!
  21. Most would prob consider it sacrilege, but I'd stick a BWB guard on that, put an EMG pickup in it and laugh all the way to my gig. Lovely Bass either way, GLWTS!
  22. First concert - Status Quo, NEC, December 1991 or 1992 Last concert - Halestorm, Cardiff Motorpoint, October 2019 Best concert - Rush, Time Machine Tour, NEC Worst concert - Limp Bizkit, Cardiff Motorpoint dual headline w/KORN (Sound was AWFUL for LB). I left. Loudest concert - As above, Cardiff Motorpoint is a dodgy venue sound-wise anyway, and LB's FOH must've been trying to compensate by just pushing the volume. It just sounded like the band were playing through an old mono transistor radio at ear-splitting volume. I had to leave. Seen the most - Iron Maiden Most surprising - Enter Shikari - Wasn't my thing but was trying to impress a young lady. Worked. Next concert - Rammstein Wish I would have seen - Most of my favourite bands were already well established when I started playing and really getting into music, so I guess I wish could have seen any of those in a more intimate setting when they were up and coming. (Maiden, GNR, Rush)
