1. OK for me, they've got some nice stuff in there!
2. As a spotty 14yr old back in 1989, definitely a Yamaha Attitude when I first saw the picture of Billy Sheehan with it in Guitarist magazine. Which me and my mate used to read on our laps sitting at the back of our Maths lesson. Never did manage to get may hands on a version 1 Attitude, but I do own a Black Ltd2 and also a Blue ltd3. Also previously bought and sold a seafoam green ltd2.
3. Hmmm let me see, that would be 1986 for me. Probably playing computer games on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Didn't really have any interest in music until I was 14.
4. Great topic by the way Blue. I think something else to consider is how the band play it regarding investment. I.e., when the PA / Lights etc require replacing is everyone expected to contribute? What if you then leave while that equipment is still used with the band?
5.
Yes. The band I'm in has a song selection policy which has become increasingly apparent as time has gone on: that is to say, if the singer suggests it, it goes in to the set. If anyone else suggests anything, it gets thrown out, unless the singer likes it, in which case it goes in.
To a certain extent , I think this is OK - the singer is the focal point of the band and 99.99999% of the time, all the average pub audience is actually listening to. If they don't like the song, it'll be immediately apparent in their performance to any discerning audience, it doesn't matter if the band nails it, if the singer ain't delivering, the song will be rubbish, IMHO.
6. Probably my YOB (1975) Jazz Bass. Bought from The Gallery earlier this year for £2200. Interestingly was a commision sale for Steve Miles, owner of Basschat.co.uk
7.
Glad it worked out for you Lew! I've kept my amp and cabs. Just incase i ever need to play where i cant go through the PA or with IEMs. I just love the fact i don't have to wait for a few hours post gig for my ears to stop ringing now!!
Yep what I'm thinking to do is to shift my super compacts and ABM1000, and re-invest the proceeds into a standby rig for what you describe above and better in-ears..keeping an amp and cabs of that spec 'just incase' seems a little over the top IMHO!
Quad balanced armature with dual lows as a starting point!
Cheers Russ, I know it makes sense! Thanks for all your advice!
8. Yep I'm inclined to agree with njr911, I've owned 3 JBS's (pearl, black and metallic red) in my time, and the most I paid for one was £275. Granted that was around 10 years ago though...
9.
It's an East German Musima - seen a few of these before. http://wietsesguitar.../pagina465.html Some of these - later ones, I'd guess - had Japanese hardware - this one has Gotoh tuners, shame one's missing as they're decent quality. Most of these seem to be unbranded in the UK.
Yeah I thought the tuners looked quite decent too. Well I'll keep my eye on it, at that price it's gotta be worth a punt !
10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wal-bass-guitar-/252557958084?hash=item3acda09bc4:g:gqcAAOSwPCVX6XEA Interesting!
11. Spotted this, it's near me and may pick it up if it stays this low. Any ideas on the maker?, that truss rod adjustment looks a little unique? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Bass-Guitar-70s-80s-Unkown-Maker-Needs-a-Little-TLC-Lots-of-Pics-/191980028824?hash=item2cb2e6c398:g:D-YAAOSwOyJX6D03
12.
Vox Standard. That's twice what it should be priced at. http://www.ebay.co.u...IAAAOSwMtxXvxsC
Like this one then! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-Standard-Bass/172352473295?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D39012%26meid%3D1202f7114d6f4d3f8185d04c48d31bc0%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D262641077237
13. Well - Couldn't part with the effects just yet, but I have to say in-ears are an absolute revelation! Did Saturday's gig with reduced backline on stage, only enough volume for the drummer to really hear it. Spoke to said drummer on Sunday afernoon and didn't even bother taking the amp/cab in for Sunday night's gig. I've set my monitor feed up as a basic mix of everything, with my vocals and the bass pushed up a little just for my own purposes. Seems to work a treat. Think I will be investing in higher spec earphones in the not too distant future though. Nothing really wrong with the SE215's, but it's obvious that you can get better, especially for bass applications. In short - can't see me ever doing a gig without them now! Now then, what to do with my amp and cabs?
14. Seems to happen quite a lot with my covers band. Generally a hand pressed firmly on the back usually does it.. Trying to talk to band members in the middle of a song is particular favourite of mine though, I mean what the actual F...? Feel like finding them in the half time and telling them how would they like it if I came to where they work on Monday and start shouting in their ear while their trying to do their job!! Basically IMHO the vast majority of punters usually don't see that doing a gig is working. Understandable I suppose, they're in their cups and having a blast, so we must be too!
15.
I I love Jazz Bass Specials. I have an almost mint black one and they are great basses, I keep thinking I need to get a pearl one too
Seen this? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/291744-fender-mij-p-j-bass-jv-serial-number/
16. AFAIK that's the last version before they disappeared, preamp only and in amazing condition. So, rare & quite desirable?, I'd say so. I believe that's the very preamp Steve Harris uses too. But I could be wrong.
17. Replaced my Roadworn P wiring with a kit from John, beautiful work once again, Sprague pacer 0.1uf cap, lushness!
18.
Ah see, i dont use any effects. So cant comment on how successful it would have been if i did. I dont even use a sansamp. Just EQ on my bass, with a touch of compression off the board. Job done
Now that is utopia!
With technology today, no one really needs a huge amp and huge cab, including guitarists. Bassists can DI with a pedal of their choice and guitarist can move on to either super small rigs/combos or similar options to the bassist, tailored for guitars. I would never buy a large rig now...and I've had great experiences with a few bands just using a Sansamps into the PA with no IEMs.
I'm inclined to agree - this weekend will be my first go at IEM's, we're in 2 venues we've played before so I think they'll provide a good benchmark for how I'm gonna feel about the IEM's.. My plan is to have a reduced backline on stage just incase I freak out or can't get things working!! I'll also have my pedalboard but try and see if the songs sound good enough without using them. I think it's the octaver I'll miss most.
19. As I said above I'm hoping the end point will be just using a sansamp and nothing else. I think the main struggle for me will be giving up my other effects. It's really only a splash of distortion here and there and occasional octaver. First gigs of attempting to strip back are this weekend..
20. I have a TC BH250 as a backup. Fits it the pocket of a gig bag and is usually enough for me, also the toneprints feature is pretty good. Although I'm hoping to be going to in-ears shortly (we run full PA) so my backup to a sansamp para driver / DI will be a behringer BDI21 box.
21.
http://basschat.co.u...rs-help-needed/ You may find this interesting!
Cheers matey, I've been through various sections of that thread a few times on my way to making the decision, plus Kert lives near me so I can tap him up for advice too
22. I'm in with this - Ordered some bits and the end plan is to just use my Sansamp para driver (phantom powered) instead of my rig and entire pedalboard. I'm gonna make baby steps into it TBH as it's gonna be a very different feel and I don't want it to be so much of a shock to the system that I immediately decide I don't like it...gonna keep taking small backline & pedals for a while and gradually phase it out.... Haven't gone expensive with the gear / in-ears themselves to start (wired headphone amp & Shure 215s), but figure if I can make it workable with those then anything else I get in the future would only be an improvement..here's hoping, the ability to only have to take a bass case or 2 out of the house is very appealing.....
