1. Sandberg California VM/PM Basses are excellent - good score. Really got mt beady eye on the natural VM4 on the classic and cool site. Must resist!
2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-PJ-bass-precision-jazz-MIJ-made-in-Japan-/172325684716?hash=item281f6945ec:g:anAAAOSw9IpXx0CT See link above - I'm guessing these were the precursor to the Jazz Bass Special as used most famously by Duff McKagan. Not cheap, but certainly rare I should think and lower than I've seen regular JV precisions and jazzes going for....
3. Read my paperback on holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed, contains all of the highs and lows associated with being a weekend warrior, I think most of us can relate to our intrepid hero George in one way or another.. Well Done Dave.
4.
I recently bought a set of Elixir strings and put it on. I used to use D'Addario nickel strings.
I read above that you put on the lighter strings because you liked their tension. I assume from this you like the low tension they have, I'd recommend Dunlop Super Brights, I use the nickel wound 45-105 and they are very low tension, and feel great to me. YMMV!
5. Maybe just email them and ask? Bound to be a 'contact us' on their webpage..
6. My paperback showed up today - keeping it for a st. lucian sun lounger next week!
7.
I've been using Mono straps on my basses for a few years now. Medium length. Really comfortable, grippy and breathable. Even has a little pocket for plectrums! http://greatbritishb...trap-sharkskin/
Same here..except mines long.
8. Wow whoever spec'd that definitely had their weetabix that day. Beautiful.
9. I'm in - looking forward to sitting on a St. Lucian beach with this!
10. I've always had a day job, but at the same time been in original touring bands, and weekend cover bands. Currently have a mon-fri day job, have a weekend covers band, and an original project gearing up for gigging....
11. Yep Dannybuoy is right, you can get good B's on cheaper instruments, one of the best B's I've heard was on a Musicman USA SUB 5 I had. They can be had for around £400-£450..
12.
When I played a 5 string I always used D'addario 165-5 strings which come with a 135 B string and this is only marginally lower tension than the E
Yep - same here, when I was using a 5 string (I had a sandberg VM5) these are the strings I put on and had no trouble with floppy B's. Great strings and the non-tapered .135 makes a real difference. Personally I think the real difference between a good and not so good 5 string is whether it's been made as a 5-string from the start, or a 4 string design which has been worked around to include the 5th string, if that makes sense. The 6-bolt neck joint on the Sandberg, combined with a high mass bridge, a very stable, stiff neck, and the .135 string made a very nice combination..
13.
This looks great - I tried the regular Para Driver hoping it would be like the Bass Driver but with mids and it, well, wasn`t. This one is def gonna be on my shopping list as the current one is a permanently on pedal for me. Love the change of bass & mid frequencies too. This could end up being my only pedal as I currently get my eq from my Tonehammer. Niiiiiiiiice. Edited to say, one on its way. Which hopefully will be nice.
Hiya Lozz, interested in what you thought was missing about the Para Driver, as my experience so far was the opposite, for me the Para driver is the bass driver, with mid control...YM obviously did V
Now if i could buy one modded with a mids freq knob instead of a button i would stop having to emulate on with a multiFX.
See above, for me, that's what the Para Driver is. YMMV!
14. I fussed over pedal power supplies for ages, bought a PP2+ in the end and now I don't even think about it. Which IMHO is exactly what you need from your power supply.
15.
I don't think they're original. It's not him. There are some on YouTube that are though.
Well that didn't take long. Every time someone posts these up there's always a huge debate about whether they're original or not. Seen it so many times with the likes of Geddy. Steve Harris, etc etc.... Fact is they are all probably genuine and just pushed up in the mix on Guitar Hero. People just don't seem to get that an isolated bass will never sound the same as hearing the bass in the full mix. I've even seen Steve Harris ones debated and called 'sloppy'.
16. Same here, hated it on a 2006 US precision I had. Took it out and re-wired it standard...
17. There's a band round my way who have a subs/tops good quality PA with everything mic'd up and the bass player still uses an 8x10, forever scratching my head at that one. Never seen them play anywhere bigger than a workingmens club. Won't mention the band as there's too many south wales fellas on this thread!
18. And just to add, I think this is a brilliant idea, it's got my rusty old cogs going like the clappers. The biggest inter-band moan we get is stage/backline volume.
19.
Are you not meant to plug instruments into the other inputs? The only other instrument that gets plugged in is a keyboard, but it doesn't go in 1 or 2
It'll be fine, all Hi-Z means is high impedance, like the input on a guitar/bass amp is, so if you plug a guitar/bass into it you'll get a stronger signal. Plugging guitars / Basses into line level inputs (which is what the other inputs are) just results in a quieter signal requiring more gain... All I meant was if you're gonna go straight from the Bass to the mixer via jack-jack, then use one of the Hi-Z inputs for the best signal.
20.
This was going to be my suggestion. The Behringer really is a very capable piece of kit.
Yep - just looked at the behringer - inputs 1 & 2 are Hi-Z, so (I believe that means) you can plug instruments directly into them.
21. Been thinking the same thing myself - although I haven't even dipped a toe yet. The thing that concerns me, which you have covered by monitoring, is that other band members wouldn't have any bass feedback apart from what bleeds from the PA. Not a problem for you if the other guys/gals have their own monitor and can get some bass if they like. Can't see any reason why what you're suggesting (using a quality preamp / DI in lieu of an actual amp) wouldn't work just fine. I'm sure there's loads of people doing it already...
22.
Have you considered Eich/Tecamp?
+1 for this, the 'taste' knob on those is very useful, taking you from crispy to vintage in one knob. Also super clean when needed and very 'open' sounding.
