1. Seems to happen quite a lot with my covers band. Generally a hand pressed firmly on the back usually does it.. Trying to talk to band members in the middle of a song is particular favourite of mine though, I mean what the actual F...? Feel like finding them in the half time and telling them how would they like it if I came to where they work on Monday and start shouting in their ear while their trying to do their job!! Basically IMHO the vast majority of punters usually don't see that doing a gig is working. Understandable I suppose, they're in their cups and having a blast, so we must be too!
2.
I I love Jazz Bass Specials. I have an almost mint black one and they are great basses, I keep thinking I need to get a pearl one too
Seen this? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/291744-fender-mij-p-j-bass-jv-serial-number/
3. AFAIK that's the last version before they disappeared, preamp only and in amazing condition. So, rare & quite desirable?, I'd say so. I believe that's the very preamp Steve Harris uses too. But I could be wrong.
4. The lower horn looks like a teapot spout.
5. Replaced my Roadworn P wiring with a kit from John, beautiful work once again, Sprague pacer 0.1uf cap, lushness!
6. OH MY GAWD!!!!
7.
Ah see, i dont use any effects. So cant comment on how successful it would have been if i did. I dont even use a sansamp. Just EQ on my bass, with a touch of compression off the board. Job done
Now that is utopia!
With technology today, no one really needs a huge amp and huge cab, including guitarists. Bassists can DI with a pedal of their choice and guitarist can move on to either super small rigs/combos or similar options to the bassist, tailored for guitars. I would never buy a large rig now...and I've had great experiences with a few bands just using a Sansamps into the PA with no IEMs.
I'm inclined to agree - this weekend will be my first go at IEM's, we're in 2 venues we've played before so I think they'll provide a good benchmark for how I'm gonna feel about the IEM's.. My plan is to have a reduced backline on stage just incase I freak out or can't get things working!! I'll also have my pedalboard but try and see if the songs sound good enough without using them. I think it's the octaver I'll miss most.
8. As I said above I'm hoping the end point will be just using a sansamp and nothing else. I think the main struggle for me will be giving up my other effects. It's really only a splash of distortion here and there and occasional octaver. First gigs of attempting to strip back are this weekend..
9. I have a TC BH250 as a backup. Fits it the pocket of a gig bag and is usually enough for me, also the toneprints feature is pretty good. Although I'm hoping to be going to in-ears shortly (we run full PA) so my backup to a sansamp para driver / DI will be a behringer BDI21 box.
10.
http://basschat.co.u...rs-help-needed/ You may find this interesting!
Cheers matey, I've been through various sections of that thread a few times on my way to making the decision, plus Kert lives near me so I can tap him up for advice too
11. I'm in with this - Ordered some bits and the end plan is to just use my Sansamp para driver (phantom powered) instead of my rig and entire pedalboard. I'm gonna make baby steps into it TBH as it's gonna be a very different feel and I don't want it to be so much of a shock to the system that I immediately decide I don't like it...gonna keep taking small backline & pedals for a while and gradually phase it out.... Haven't gone expensive with the gear / in-ears themselves to start (wired headphone amp & Shure 215s), but figure if I can make it workable with those then anything else I get in the future would only be an improvement..here's hoping, the ability to only have to take a bass case or 2 out of the house is very appealing.....
12. Sandberg California VM/PM Basses are excellent - good score. Really got mt beady eye on the natural VM4 on the classic and cool site. Must resist!
13. Very Nice! Looks super clean.
14. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-PJ-bass-precision-jazz-MIJ-made-in-Japan-/172325684716?hash=item281f6945ec:g:anAAAOSw9IpXx0CT See link above - I'm guessing these were the precursor to the Jazz Bass Special as used most famously by Duff McKagan. Not cheap, but certainly rare I should think and lower than I've seen regular JV precisions and jazzes going for....
15. Read my paperback on holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed, contains all of the highs and lows associated with being a weekend warrior, I think most of us can relate to our intrepid hero George in one way or another.. Well Done Dave.
16.
I recently bought a set of Elixir strings and put it on. I used to use D'Addario nickel strings.
I read above that you put on the lighter strings because you liked their tension. I assume from this you like the low tension they have, I'd recommend Dunlop Super Brights, I use the nickel wound 45-105 and they are very low tension, and feel great to me. YMMV!
17. Maybe just email them and ask? Bound to be a 'contact us' on their webpage..
18. My paperback showed up today - keeping it for a st. lucian sun lounger next week!
19.
I've been using Mono straps on my basses for a few years now. Medium length. Really comfortable, grippy and breathable. Even has a little pocket for plectrums! http://greatbritishb...trap-sharkskin/
Same here..except mines long.
20. Wow whoever spec'd that definitely had their weetabix that day. Beautiful.
21. I'm in - looking forward to sitting on a St. Lucian beach with this!
22. I've always had a day job, but at the same time been in original touring bands, and weekend cover bands. Currently have a mon-fri day job, have a weekend covers band, and an original project gearing up for gigging....
23. Yep Dannybuoy is right, you can get good B's on cheaper instruments, one of the best B's I've heard was on a Musicman USA SUB 5 I had. They can be had for around £400-£450..
