When I played a 5 string I always used D'addario 165-5 strings which come with a 135 B string and this is only marginally lower tension than the E
Yep - same here, when I was using a 5 string (I had a sandberg VM5) these are the strings I put on and had no trouble with floppy B's. Great strings and the non-tapered .135 makes a real difference. Personally I think the real difference between a good and not so good 5 string is whether it's been made as a 5-string from the start, or a 4 string design which has been worked around to include the 5th string, if that makes sense. The 6-bolt neck joint on the Sandberg, combined with a high mass bridge, a very stable, stiff neck, and the .135 string made a very nice combination..

Tech 21 Bass Driver DI (BDDI) - New version (V2) - MIDS!
LewisK1975 replied to Musicman20's topic in Effects
This looks great - I tried the regular Para Driver hoping it would be like the Bass Driver but with mids and it, well, wasn`t. This one is def gonna be on my shopping list as the current one is a permanently on pedal for me. Love the change of bass & mid frequencies too. This could end up being my only pedal as I currently get my eq from my Tonehammer. Niiiiiiiiice. Edited to say, one on its way. Which hopefully will be nice.
Hiya Lozz, interested in what you thought was missing about the Para Driver, as my experience so far was the opposite, for me the Para driver is the bass driver, with mid control...YM obviously did V
Now if i could buy one modded with a mids freq knob instead of a button i would stop having to emulate on with a multiFX.
See above, for me, that's what the Para Driver is. YMMV! -
I fussed over pedal power supplies for ages, bought a PP2+ in the end and now I don't even think about it. Which IMHO is exactly what you need from your power supply.
I don't think they're original. It's not him. There are some on YouTube that are though.
Well that didn't take long. Every time someone posts these up there's always a huge debate about whether they're original or not. Seen it so many times with the likes of Geddy. Steve Harris, etc etc.... Fact is they are all probably genuine and just pushed up in the mix on Guitar Hero. People just don't seem to get that an isolated bass will never sound the same as hearing the bass in the full mix. I've even seen Steve Harris ones debated and called 'sloppy'.

Same here, hated it on a 2006 US precision I had. Took it out and re-wired it standard...

There's a band round my way who have a subs/tops good quality PA with everything mic'd up and the bass player still uses an 8x10, forever scratching my head at that one. Never seen them play anywhere bigger than a workingmens club. Won't mention the band as there's too many south wales fellas on this thread!

And just to add, I think this is a brilliant idea, it's got my rusty old cogs going like the clappers. The biggest inter-band moan we get is stage/backline volume.
Are you not meant to plug instruments into the other inputs? The only other instrument that gets plugged in is a keyboard, but it doesn't go in 1 or 2
It'll be fine, all Hi-Z means is high impedance, like the input on a guitar/bass amp is, so if you plug a guitar/bass into it you'll get a stronger signal. Plugging guitars / Basses into line level inputs (which is what the other inputs are) just results in a quieter signal requiring more gain... All I meant was if you're gonna go straight from the Bass to the mixer via jack-jack, then use one of the Hi-Z inputs for the best signal.
This was going to be my suggestion. The Behringer really is a very capable piece of kit.
Yep - just looked at the behringer - inputs 1 & 2 are Hi-Z, so (I believe that means) you can plug instruments directly into them.

Been thinking the same thing myself - although I haven't even dipped a toe yet. The thing that concerns me, which you have covered by monitoring, is that other band members wouldn't have any bass feedback apart from what bleeds from the PA. Not a problem for you if the other guys/gals have their own monitor and can get some bass if they like. Can't see any reason why what you're suggesting (using a quality preamp / DI in lieu of an actual amp) wouldn't work just fine. I'm sure there's loads of people doing it already...

Yummy sounding Bass that.
I totally agree about the slapping thing & crappy lap top speakers . A microphone & di doesn't take that long especially that they are trying to sell a high end bass . There are some very good demonstrations out there however the Dood for one does great ones .
Yep, love Dood's demos / reviews.
....You shouldn't let it put you off the bass though, unless there are any other reasons for being wary about it. It's not the fault of the bass that the seller is a monumental bell-end.
Great thread, but it's amazing how some folks can get so wound up over these sorts of things. People tend to get more wound up when other people deliberately quote them out of context, so it's a bit sad to see you doing precisely that. My comment "There was an attempt to provide a workable definition of 'covers' which was a dreadful oversimplification." referred to your definition, which would have turned Carole King (and many others) into covers bands for allowing others to record & release their original songs before they chose to do so. As I said, a dreadful oversimplification. My comment "The attempted definition existed independently of the size or type of venue." referred to Blue's enthusiastic endorsement and then defence of your definition, which was completely irrelevant because it tried to drag venue size into the matter for no apparent reason. Presumably Blue couldn't think of anything better. Give him time. This all looks pretty straightforward to me. Which bit are you struggling with?
Nothing now. Thanks. The trouble is with any definition someone can come up with, there will always be an example someone can think of which makes that definition incorrect......I was only trying to contribute to what I think is an interesting thread...

Friday night excellent, Saturday night not so much. Local-ish pub on Friday night 10pm start - dancers from start to finish, nice load in/out. Top. Saturday night - Engagement party, upstairs in a golf club. Got there for 7, start time 8:30. Basically ignored by the entire room for the whole gig. Then got a message from the girl on Sunday saying she wasn't happy, she didn't think she got 'value for money' from us. Might have helped if the couple and all of their TOWIE wannabe friends hadn't segregated themselves in one corner of the room (I mean like 20 yards away from ANYONE ELSE) and ignored all of the other people (and the band) who showed up for their party. They were more bothered about having their photos taken / taking selfies than getting on the dance floor and enjoying themselves. Didn't they think that maybe if they got up and had a bit of a dance, then maybe their guests might have joined in and that might have got it going a bit?? And here's the other thing - No one spoke to any band members on the night about feeling disappointed with any aspect of our performance..we did our full set and played music through the PA whilst packing down, always leaving room for potential dancers (there were no dancers) Which is what was agreed. Basically their party was rubbish and they chose to blame us. We provided the entertainment, but they chose to not be entertained. What's the old saying? You can lead a horse to water......?
I assume you're referring to my post:
OK then - IMHO a cover band is any band who performs a song that was recorded and released by someone else first.
Not sure why the size or type of venue matters?...if a band is playing a song that was recorded and released by someone else first, then at that moment in time they are being a cover band. I do however, also agree with other posts I've read which say that it's ratio of originals vs covers which can define it too. But then, what about a band who perform 30 songs and 15 of them are covers, and 15 are originals? What do we call them? Quite easy really, they're a band! Great thread, but it's amazing how some folks can get so wound up over these sorts of things.

What I do with Facebook, is to post on the bands page about the upcoming event, and then share the post to local groups which are specifically about live music. Also share to timelines of friends of the band, usually does the trick..
-
We're defining cover band not what a cover is. Blue
OK then - IMHO a cover band is any band who performs a song that was recorded and released by someone else first.
Does that make Lennon/McCartney's 'Step Inside Love' by Cilla Black a cover or an original?
If Lennon/mcCartney recorded and released it, then Cilla's version is a cover. I think this is the definition - if the song was recorded & released by someone else first, then any future version, live or recorded is a cover.
-
Yep - in its most simple form the definition of a cover band is a band who performs material written or made famous by someone else. Doesn't matter if they also perform material they wrote themselves, when they are playing material that they didn't write / make famous, they are 'covering' that material, so at that point they are being a cover band. Calling all orchestras 'cover bands' is a tricky one for me. Any piece written for an orchestra is unable to be performed by the composer, as he/she is only one person, and one person can't be an orchestra.

Noticed Bass direct have a pair of used Aguilar SL112's, don't know how great they are, but those things are a work of art! small too.... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Aguilar_SL112.html -
