Not many prog bands have a female singer, we hope that'll cut us apart from what's already available!! Hope you enjoy..
2. I recently sold my SH sig (same as yours, a 2009 model) and I had retro fitted the SPB-4 (it had the SPB-1 as standard), I thought the SPB-4 was a MUCH better pickup, better balanced in the mids / highs (the SPB-1 sounds more scooped to my ears), but still very strong and articulate. My bass went to a lovely chap called Peter (username SH73 on here), perhaps drop him a line and see what he thinks, he's had it a while now and was also having the pickup dilemma......
3. Didn't even know engl made a bass amp, you learn something new every day! Looks lovely, GLWTS..
4. I'm in whenever this is arranged for!
5.
You're meant to say from in between Bridgend and Porthcawl! (cefn Cribwr boy, living in Cardiff for last 10 years)
Oh, only been 'between Bridgend and Porthcawl' for 7 years....
6.
......why is EVERYONE covering Purple Rain in tribute? The guy recorded 17,000 songs (maybe) and EVERYONE is doing Purple Rain. Stop it. Somebody pick another song. Please. I'm going to lose appreciation for the song. I get it. Big power ballad. Dead guy. Emotive. But please - somebody pick another song to cover. Sorry, it's been bothering me for days now.
It's because it's the easiest Prince song for a guitar/bass/drums/vox band to cover.
7. Well done mate - I remember my first time back performing after a lengthy lay-off from 'public performance', shaking like a sh1tting dog I was.
8. My '78 precision - changed the pickup for a quarter pounder and it has a BAII bridge. Still have the original parts as well. Will never be sold.
9.
.....and Lewis seems a great guy too.
Cheers Marc, although I do know a few who'd argue that with you! I'll keep an eye out for a meet-up too, sounds fun!
10.
I can't find a manual for a 1715 combo. Closest are 1215 or 715 combos. Are you certain of the model number? Does the combo have a socket for an extension cab? In general, amps work down to 4 ohms and cabs (or combos with external cab sockets) are 8 ohms. Amp ratings are specified into their minimum ohm loads. Thus, a 300W amp will drive 300W into 4 ohms and somewhat less into 8ohms (typically about 2/3rds, so 200W in this case). So, a 300W combo with an extension cab socket will likely be an 8ohm speaker and will develop about 200W when used alone. Adding an 8 ohm extension cab will create an overall load of 4ohms and the amp will then deliver its full 300W. BUT, all that is general and there will be exceptions. We can only be sure by knowing the full details of your combo, which should be stated in the operating manual.
This is the 100% correct answer to the OP's question.
11. Another Bridgend here (well Kenfig Hill, but let's not split hairs)...
12.
I'm another who lost their bottom-end virginity to a Marlin Slammer. Still got it, mine is red with white scratchplate, maple (or "maple") neck, single P-style split pickup. Bought from St Mary's Music in Southampton in late 1989 for maybe £70. I'm not sure why they get the grumbles I've seen when googling around, mine is nothing great but plays fine, has ok action and the hardware is in good nick. I'm about to move house so am thinking of selling it on as it's just a sentimental keepsake at the moment. Interested?
Not really looking to buy another Slammer but thanks for the offer! - FWIW I think you should hold onto it, like you say it's a sentimental keepsake for you, which was really what my original post was about...I think it's great to be able to look back at your first Bass..
13.
I got an Aria pro II Laser Electric Heritage new in 1985, lucky me! - still have it, its actually a really great sounding bass. I don't use it much, but like the nostalgia it brings.
I had one of those, I considered it my first 'proper' bass when I bought it back in the early 90's, mine was the off-white passive version, like this:
14. Delighted to leave the first feedback here - Peter bought my Fender Steve Harris P Bass, was very communicative throughout the whole process leading up to meeting and the deal was a pleasure to be a part of, deal with confidence people! Peter is a top Basschatter! (Likes his Iron Maiden too - never a bad thing!)
15. Enjoy New Bass Day Peter! It's a thing of beauty!
16. Can't believe this is still here at this price - this is a LOT of Bass for that money!!
17. Jeeesus H Corbett!!
18. Pair this up with the also very keenly priced RH450 also in the for sale section and you've got yourself a lovely little setup!
19. Nice price for someone! I should think this will be gone fairly quickly!!
20. Can't speak for their communication skills but I started a thread asking if it was worth a visit as I'm going to be in the Reading area tomorrow, and everyone seems to speak very highly of them. Just give them a call, could be they've just got some internet issues....
21.
My first bass was a '74 Fender Precision. I wanted a bass (I was a guitar player first, sorry!) , went down to my local music shop (WAM Music in St Neots) and they had the Precision for £135. That would have been '84/'85. I still have it and wouldn't ever part with it, as it plays and sounds great.
Wow, even for 84/85 that's a bargain by anyone's standards.
22.
I think I might be going there (soon) myself to get a new strap for 'my new bass'
Ha! perhaps I'll see you in there Peter!
23.
I am VERY tempted by this piece of kit! I'd like to know if it could work as a 4 ohm/one cab set up though!
Web page says available as 8ohm or 2ohm.
