Spotted this on Ebay just now: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Jazz-Bass-MIK-1990-USA-Accessories-and-outstanding-condition-/262086982600?hash=item3d0599fbc8 Didn't know there was such a thing as an MIK Fender? Happy to be proven wrong! - I've just never seen one before...

Clip light on Aguilar tone hammer 350.... Help.
LewisK1975 replied to spyder's topic in Amps and Cabs
It also says this: C. Protection Features The Tone Hammer 350 is equipped with several protection circuits designed to prevent any damage to the amplifier in cases where the limits of the normal operating range are breached. Protections include an over current, an over temperature, DC, and HF detectors. If any of these circuits are triggered, the amplifier will either limit its output power, or shut down. In case of a shut down the amplifier will rapidly try to restart, checking if the faulty condition is still present. In case of shut down, both Operate and Status lights will turn off. Perhaps some are confusing the 'clip' light with the 'Status' light? Sorry - I know you're looking for an answer from an actual TH350 user - which I'm not! just trying to help... -
Only one I can see for sale is his MIM Geddy? Not the USA...

I've got one of the the Blue sparkle ones from 2009. Was actually one of the first to come into the UK...Bloody Marvelous! I've also put the new spb-4 pickup in mine (comes standard on the white one now)

Clip light on Aguilar tone hammer 350.... Help.
LewisK1975 replied to spyder's topic in Amps and Cabs
From the manual - When the Clip light turns red it indicates that the preamp is being driven into clipping. Clipping can be a desirable characteristic, depending on your taste. If you would like a cleaner sound you can experiment with the input pad, Gain, Drive, and Tone Controls. All of these things, including the output level of your bass, affect how often the light will go off. Clipping the Tone Hammer 350 will not cause any shutdowns or damage to your amplifier. That should clarify it!!! -
There's a long running thing about TC overstating their Wattage ratings. Regardless of what opinions are the RH750 has a lot of fans and I for one would't be too deterred (the RH750 is certainly an amp I'd like to have in my arsenal!) The best advice is to try them all and see what sounds best to your ear. Helpful if you're able to use your own bass and cab too. When I went to Bass Direct to do something similar earlier this year I did that and they were fine with it. (did ask up front mind)

David Gilmour tour band - Guy Pratt on bass
Excellent on Later Live last night.
Yeah I posted on facebook last night that he was sounding great and got a 'like' from Mark Gooday. Which was cool. -
Think the confusion is being caused by the P/J pickups. I don't believe any US production models have that as standard, has the J pickup been added maybe?
-
Have you tried it without the pedals? Plug the bass straight into the amp and see if you still get the noise? could be coming from how the compressor is set or poor power supply on the pedals. Could also simply be there's too much top end in the EQ - either on the amp or from the bass itself? Have you got the treble full up on the bass or the amp or both?

Mccartneys bass palayign on Something - Wow!!
I'm always amazed that the bass part to 'Something' can be considered 'busy'. It's far from simple root notes, but to my ear it slides around the melody perfectly.
Think it's more a case of being regarded as too busy for the song rather than generically busy or over complicated, which I agree, it isn't. -
Sounds quite normal to me - I'd expect some hiss from and amp at 70-80% of max volume. I'd say it's only a problem if the hiss is noticeable whilst playing..
Gigging isn't a massive concern yet, my band are about 12 months away from that and I have a DI on my board should I need to use it. This is really for our practice space but I need volume as I'm competing with two 100W Fender twins and rightly or wrongly, we practice very very loud. Again, output wise I needed to run my 7pro quite hard to get the volume I wanted but would occasionally use the -db input to clean the signal up too. My concerns at this point are really with the power ratings of the a,p against the cab and if anyone can offer any advice on this. But take onboard what you say that the smaller options might not be loud enough
I think we've all been here at some point - please dude IMHO you (and the other guys in the band) should seriously consider reducing the volume levels for rehearsals. Apart from being completely unnecessary and possibly even counter productive when you're writing or honing a song - as Lozz says you could end up with damaged hearing. Also consider this - when you do get to gigging (I'm assuming you're an original material band who are aiming to be on larger stages rather than pub gigs) - sound guys usually HATE a massively loud backline. That's what FOH systems are for. Backline should only really be for monitoring if you have FOH support and if you are used to having an ear splitting stage volume, you are going to run into constant problems with angry sound men, and ultimately end up having to turn the amps down and be p1ssed off coz you can't get into it with the stage volume being quieter. You may already know all of this and not care! That's fine and I really don't want to be condescending either, so please don't think I'm a know all kn0bhead, believe me I'm not! I'm just speaking from my own experiences with this and I really think you'll benefit in the long run from getting used to playing at lower volumes. I certainly have. For info - I run a 500w class D amp into 2 barefaced super compacts and rarely need to turn the output past 10 o'clock. That's with a pretty loud drummer too. Good luck!

Mccartneys bass palayign on Something - Wow!!
LewisK1975 replied to markdavid's topic in General Discussion
I've always thought that it was more a case of 'something' being a brilliant song (don't think anyone could really dispute that) and macca deciding that as it wasn't his composition he'd make sure that the bass stood out the most anyway! -
http://www.pro-techn...12_1201/PRX_525 Crazy thing is, it may be cheaper to source it from the states going by this. Check the board before you do anything though and drop JBL/Wembley a line about yout recone options. I hate to say it but there is an inherent problem with the power amps on these speakers - check the various DJ boards where there are plenty who moan about it.
What a crazy world we live in where it's cheaper to get something shipped from 1000's of mile away than buying in at home. Yeah I had seen some of those complaints while searching about it. Although most of them seem to be total failures / complete cutting out etc - ours seems a bit different in that we just have one speaker out. The other 15 and the horn are running fine.
-
Have you definitely isolated it to the speaker? These JBLs have three poweramps, one for each 15 and one for the HF driver. Are you sure that it's not an amp that is playing up? It may be as simple as a HT fuse... (Not that I know the internals of these cabs that well, it's just that I remember the three amps when I was looking at these cabs with view to purchase)
No we haven't actually done anything yet! It's the plan to open it up and swap the speaker wires for the 15's over and see what happens - just trying to plan ahead if you know what I mean...
-
I'd get it re-coned, will be way cheaper than any other option...
It's an option - but again I think the re-cone kit is a pig to get hold of.
-
Hey all, Bit of a longshot here! My band has a nice PA consisting of mackie1801 subs and JBL PRX625 tops (these have two 15's and a horn). We noticed that one of the PRX625's had a lower output than the other and upon a little further investigation found that one of the 15in speakers wasn't working. We still need to get to the bottom of it having not done anything at all just yet (it's still 1000watt with just the other 15 and the horn running) Done a little bit of internet trawling and found that the speakers in it (265f-1) are 2ohms, difficult if not actually impossible to get in the UK (unless you buy a whole new PRX625) and if got from the US will be around £300 shipped! If does turn out to be just the speaker that needs replacing do you think there'd be any harm sticking a 4ohm non-jbl replacement in??

Where are the budget range valve amps for bass?
LewisK1975 replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think it's more a case of demand - Valve bass amps (and their associated cabs, 8x10's etc) have always been very large and very heavy. Whereas a 100-watt valve guitar combo could conceivably go on the passenger front seat of your car, and be a 1-hand carry. This is why small and light class-D amps are now so popular for Bass, and that's why the big Bass amp manufacturers are making them - because they are selling well at the moment. I've no doubt that if small and light amps had never been invented - and therefore valve amps were still the only amps available, there'd be cheaper stuff around from the big manufacturers. It's also a case of being able to market them as 'classics' etc and then charge more. There'll always be a market for some guys who no matter how technology moves on - will always want 'old school' stuff because they prefer it. Each to their own. All of this is of course IMHO!! Please don't let this one turn into another Valve vs SS vs Class-D argument!! I think the OP poses an interesting question... -
Looks like your drummer is looking at your rig and thinking "please dont hurt me".
Weirdly - when I say I'm only gonna use 1 cab for a particular room - it's usually him who says to use both! He gives as good as he gets volume wise mind you!

New Ampeg PF 20 and PF 50 and a new Cab too
LewisK1975 replied to Thunderpaws's topic in Amps and Cabs
How the hell do you carry the head around? No mention in the manuals of any flip-top shenanigans...
I read on their Facebook yesterday that they will fit in the existing PF210/115 cab's flip tops. -
Metal Newbie looking for a Head/Cab - advice needed please
LewisK1975 replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
Easy - get a sansamp! Also don't just consider the Bass driver - I use the Para Driver which is very similar but has a semi-parametric Mid control too. Can dial in a little bit of grit or be nice and clean too!!
