1.
I'm always amazed that the bass part to 'Something' can be considered 'busy'. It's far from simple root notes, but to my ear it slides around the melody perfectly.
Think it's more a case of being regarded as too busy for the song rather than generically busy or over complicated, which I agree, it isn't.
 2. Sounds quite normal to me - I'd expect some hiss from and amp at 70-80% of max volume. I'd say it's only a problem if the hiss is noticeable whilst playing..
 3.
Gigging isn't a massive concern yet, my band are about 12 months away from that and I have a DI on my board should I need to use it. This is really for our practice space but I need volume as I'm competing with two 100W Fender twins and rightly or wrongly, we practice very very loud. Again, output wise I needed to run my 7pro quite hard to get the volume I wanted but would occasionally use the -db input to clean the signal up too. My concerns at this point are really with the power ratings of the a,p against the cab and if anyone can offer any advice on this. But take onboard what you say that the smaller options might not be loud enough
I think we've all been here at some point - please dude IMHO you (and the other guys in the band) should seriously consider reducing the volume levels for rehearsals. Apart from being completely unnecessary and possibly even counter productive when you're writing or honing a song - as Lozz says you could end up with damaged hearing. Also consider this - when you do get to gigging (I'm assuming you're an original material band who are aiming to be on larger stages rather than pub gigs) - sound guys usually HATE a massively loud backline. That's what FOH systems are for. Backline should only really be for monitoring if you have FOH support and if you are used to having an ear splitting stage volume, you are going to run into constant problems with angry sound men, and ultimately end up having to turn the amps down and be p1ssed off coz you can't get into it with the stage volume being quieter. You may already know all of this and not care! That's fine and I really don't want to be condescending either, so please don't think I'm a know all kn0bhead, believe me I'm not! I'm just speaking from my own experiences with this and I really think you'll benefit in the long run from getting used to playing at lower volumes. I certainly have. For info - I run a 500w class D amp into 2 barefaced super compacts and rarely need to turn the output past 10 o'clock. That's with a pretty loud drummer too. Good luck!
 4. I've always thought that it was more a case of 'something' being a brilliant song (don't think anyone could really dispute that) and macca deciding that as it wasn't his composition he'd make sure that the bass stood out the most anyway!
 5.
http://www.pro-techn...12_1201/PRX_525 Crazy thing is, it may be cheaper to source it from the states going by this. Check the board before you do anything though and drop JBL/Wembley a line about yout recone options. I hate to say it but there is an inherent problem with the power amps on these speakers - check the various DJ boards where there are plenty who moan about it.
What a crazy world we live in where it's cheaper to get something shipped from 1000's of mile away than buying in at home. Yeah I had seen some of those complaints while searching about it. Although most of them seem to be total failures / complete cutting out etc - ours seems a bit different in that we just have one speaker out. The other 15 and the horn are running fine.
 6.
Have you definitely isolated it to the speaker? These JBLs have three poweramps, one for each 15 and one for the HF driver. Are you sure that it's not an amp that is playing up? It may be as simple as a HT fuse... (Not that I know the internals of these cabs that well, it's just that I remember the three amps when I was looking at these cabs with view to purchase)
No we haven't actually done anything yet! It's the plan to open it up and swap the speaker wires for the 15's over and see what happens - just trying to plan ahead if you know what I mean...
 7.
I'd get it re-coned, will be way cheaper than any other option...
It's an option - but again I think the re-cone kit is a pig to get hold of.
 8. Hey all, Bit of a longshot here! My band has a nice PA consisting of mackie1801 subs and JBL PRX625 tops (these have two 15's and a horn). We noticed that one of the PRX625's had a lower output than the other and upon a little further investigation found that one of the 15in speakers wasn't working. We still need to get to the bottom of it having not done anything at all just yet (it's still 1000watt with just the other 15 and the horn running) Done a little bit of internet trawling and found that the speakers in it (265f-1) are 2ohms, difficult if not actually impossible to get in the UK (unless you buy a whole new PRX625) and if got from the US will be around £300 shipped! If does turn out to be just the speaker that needs replacing do you think there'd be any harm sticking a 4ohm non-jbl replacement in??
 9. I think it's more a case of demand - Valve bass amps (and their associated cabs, 8x10's etc) have always been very large and very heavy. Whereas a 100-watt valve guitar combo could conceivably go on the passenger front seat of your car, and be a 1-hand carry. This is why small and light class-D amps are now so popular for Bass, and that's why the big Bass amp manufacturers are making them - because they are selling well at the moment. I've no doubt that if small and light amps had never been invented - and therefore valve amps were still the only amps available, there'd be cheaper stuff around from the big manufacturers. It's also a case of being able to market them as 'classics' etc and then charge more. There'll always be a market for some guys who no matter how technology moves on - will always want 'old school' stuff because they prefer it. Each to their own. All of this is of course IMHO!! Please don't let this one turn into another Valve vs SS vs Class-D argument!! I think the OP poses an interesting question...
 10.
Looks like your drummer is looking at your rig and thinking "please dont hurt me".
Weirdly - when I say I'm only gonna use 1 cab for a particular room - it's usually him who says to use both! He gives as good as he gets volume wise mind you!
 11.
How the hell do you carry the head around? No mention in the manuals of any flip-top shenanigans...
I read on their Facebook yesterday that they will fit in the existing PF210/115 cab's flip tops.
 12. Easy - get a sansamp! Also don't just consider the Bass driver - I use the Para Driver which is very similar but has a semi-parametric Mid control too. Can dial in a little bit of grit or be nice and clean too!!
 13. With the top speaker closer to ear level, regardless of volume, I prefer standing in front of 2 anyway, it's much more 'rewarding' to the players ear than one. 10ft away there probably wouldn't be much difference, but on an average pub / club gig I'm never usually further than 5ft away from the amp.. Here's a pic from last weekend - love the way the lights have made my head go purple! Must've had an itchy lug'ole at the time too!
 14. I've always fancied an ASAT bass - do they qualify as single cuts?
 15. Or is this nicer?
 16. Just been messing with the configurator on the Sandberg site and noticed you can now, on a 5-string, have a 35in scale with a maple fingerboard! you couldn't previously - this is what I made, nice!:
 17.
A Zoom MS-60B could do tuner and compressor duty... Have you tried the "Taste" control on the Puma?
I have found the taste control quite useful as a quick way of taking out room 'boom' - without the sansamp though, it didn't get me anywhere near where I wanted to be.... I'm finding the PUMA's eq generally much more suited to eq'ing for the room rather than sound shaping. I don't know guys - I think after years of using trace and then ashdown stuff - neutral / flat sounds just don't do it for me - therefore feeding my Barefaced super compacts with a PUMA was never really going to work for me was it . Might even be better off sticking with my pedal board, DI'ing to the Desk from the Sansamp and using in ears!
 18.
There was one on the Facebook Bass Players market yesterday.

This one, not mine, logistics to be worked out between you and seller. You may need to scroll down quite a bit, it moves fast on that page https://www.facebook...89090051102626/
Thanks Chaps - I'll cast by beady eye!
 19.
Is your pedalboard bigger than this? If not, it clearly doesn't need downsizing!
Haha Alex - True! I've only got 6 pedals so I don't know what I'm worried about really!
 20. Thanks for taking the time to reply gents. All food for thought! Also gotta find an RH750 to try out too. There is a s/h one in Bass direct, but it looks like their only selling the complete rig of amp+2 cabs at the moment, maybe i'll drop 'em a line and see if they'll consider splitting the rig.. Bassman7755 is correct I'd be looking to drop at least the Sansamp, Tu-3, and MXR comp. I'd still need some kind of board though, coz I have the billy sheehan EBS pedal which I do really like..hmmmm
 21.
Makes sense - the RH750 is a nice amp, and easily capable of doing all you`re after. Jennie Innie posted a clip of her sound on here - think she called it shock and awe - and it was great. If a search doesn`t find it maybe message her, see if she can help out on tracking it down.
Cheers I'll have a lookie!
The only thing I can thing of is that the compressor might not be in the right place in the signal chain for you if it is in the amp.
I hadn't considered that to be honest so thanks! at the moment it's last but one before the sansamp - should see if I can find a block layout of the RH750 and see how it differs...
 22. Trouble is - as long as there are people who will pay silly money for guitars, there will be people who will ask silly money! I'd love to get my mitts on a '59 P, but would I pay £8k+ for one? Not under normal circumstances, but with a lottery win under my belt, probably!!!
 23.
I personally feel like I have found my holy grail of rigs now
Righto . I think its fairly safe to say as both Bass players, and men, we are never truly happy LOL!
 24.
I would be looking at the basses for sale forum here.
This too!
 25. Anybody else done this? Thinking about changing my Tecamp PUMA for something like the TC RH750 so I can lose my tuner pedal, compressor pedal and possibly others too, I use a sansamp para driver at the end of the board for tone shaping and a bit of grit. My PUMA is set totally flat, so only really functioning as a power amp and DI - I've heard the RH750 has a more 'rock n roll' tone signature anyway and it also has the 'tube tone' feature so could possibly fill the gap left by the sansamp..
