Anyone had an opportunity to compare the Tecamp Puma 900, MarkBass LM800 / F500 and TC Electronic BH800 models?
I did just this when looking for a new amp - Tecamp and the Markbass both super clean, Tecamp more proper 'flat' to my ears and was what I ended up buying (500 version). Wasn't fussed on the TC, to my ears it sounded too hi-fi and processed (Scooped) even set flat. One thing I found out too on my quest for a new amp - a lot of the modern amps which have rotary eq's have the treble setting at 5khz+ (the PUMA and the LMiii treble knob is 8khz), not really much use if your cab doesn't have a tweeter or other high frequency driver. This became very apparent when I took my Barefaced super compact along with me too Bass direct to try a few amps out..treble knobs on both the tecamp and the Mark didn't have any effect through the SC. I bought the PUMA because it sounded the most transparent to me and I use it set 100% flat. I have a Sansamp paradriver last in my effects chain and tone shape from that..Still a rotary EQ but the treble is 4khz (suits the SC) and the mid is semi-parametric so I use it at about 1.5khz and get all the top end I need with a little boost on both the mid and the treble. The puma seems to really suit having a separate preamp in front of it. It's own EQ controls are better employed to suit the room rather than tone shaping..

Sandberg? German hand-made (well, hand finished?) quality for Fender pricing! I'd been a pure Fender man until I tried a Sandberg at Bass Direct, couldn't leave without it!! Very much considering buying another!!

Recommend an amp for someone starting to play again
Update. My mate bought a Laney for a tenner. He says it's ok. It cost him £100 to get playing again: bass £80, amp £10, lead £10! Not bad I reckon. Jack
Brilliant! should go in the 'Bargain' thread that! -
This is all very true, however if someone posts asking for an order of 7 pedals (so quite a few thousand combinations possible) I think saying 'whatever sounds good' is somewhat misleading and a bit lazy. In most situations, some effects typically work better in a certain order, unless your style is experimental noise (in which case you probably wouldn't need any help from a forum). Just my 2p.
I don't think its lazy or misleading to suggest that someone has a go to see what works for them, my point is that by trying different orders you can see what you like and what you don't, and in doing so, you will definitely have a bit of fun and most likely learn something.. It depends heavily on whether you are going to combine effects, i.e., have more than one pedal on at a time. If only one pedal is ever going to be on at a time, then it makes no real difference how you order them. But yes - if you are combining effects, they can sound different depending on how you order them..as an example there are many threads on here where people argue black and blue over where an 'always on' compressor goes in the chain.

I know the Final is on TV on Tuesday, but does anyone know who won? AFAIK The Latitude Festival (which the winner gets to play at) has been and gone? Last weekend I think... Have to add that Helen Sanderson is a beautiful lady isn't she?

I've got one of those line 6 lowdown 15 watt 8in speaker things. OK sound wise, and the modelled compressor on it is actually quite good. Got an aux in and headphone out too which is quite useful.. Only down side is the fuzzy covering they have. Only because the cat has decided it's a scratching post and the amp now looks like it's got an afro wig on! Also got the TC BH250 head which you can run without speakers and has an aux in / headphone out. Tiny too..

er.... I've just gone and bought this!! Hope I like it!!!
The gigs in question have generally been cab provided but all bands required to bring their own amp heads (seems a bit weird to me really).
Doesn't see strange to me at all - most of the gigs I did when I was in an originals band were just like that. Cab provided, bring your own head. Lots of love on here for the GK mb fusion - haven't got one personally but they're well liked and something of a 'jack of all trades' regarding sound shaping as far as I can gather. I looked around a few months ago and ended up with the Tecamp PUMA 500 - same size and weight as a hardback book. If I'm honest its' not the most useful for tone shaping, the EQ on it is better employed for suiting the room. I just use a Sansamp para driver before it and really only use it as a power amp.
It's not the best amp in the world but it's built well, is tough and has been supremely reliable.
YUP! - An old peavey TNT ain't gonna win any awards for tone, but it'll get you heard and certainly last til the end of the gig!

You're right JT. When you come across the DB's, you know. Right now I think my rig is the DB's, but I might be on a festival show in the coming weeks and have to use an SVT and an 810 and then I might decide that's the DB's and be trading my rig in. It's all subjective, and people will have their own reasons for their preference - that's all I was really trying to say.
Ashdown Electric Blue. 1x12 or 1x15. Can be had for peanuts secondhand and a nice sounding, well built amp than can cut it in a gig situation. Earliest ones were 150w, 2nd gen are 180w, 3rd gen are 220? All very usable!
I'd agree with this - or perhaps an old Peavey TNT/TKO if you can find one.. -
Point taken - but there are elements of the thread where people are comparing class-D with Valve amps, not with other class-D amps, which in my opinion (waving it around ) doesn't really get to a conclusion at all. It's (kinda) like Vinyl vs. CD, that's really the point I was trying to make. Perhaps the point of the thread wasn't to arrive at a definitive answer, which is fine. No offence was intended..

TU-3 for me. Depends on if you're looking for it to do more than just be a good tuner. I'd expect there to be plenty of YouTube vid demos for the most popular ones available. Wouldn't normally recommend youtube for forming an opinion but in this case there's no sound to judge..it's all visual.

The best advice for this is really to try different orders and see what YOU like. It's actually great fun if you've got the time and you'll almost certainly learn a few things on the way..

These sort of threads (whilst sometimes interesting to read for the occasional pearls of wisdom/knowledge) are farcical really. We all have things we like and things we don't like. What a dreadfully boring world it would be if we all liked/disliked the same thing. And for anyone wondering my rig is all lightweight, PUMA500 and 2 Barefaced supercompacts. I personally am very happy with my setup - someone else might think it sounds rubbish. That's fine, it's ME who has to be happy with MY setup. Opinions are like private parts, everyone has them but when you start waving them in people's faces people don't generally like it!! Rant over!
A good sound is obviously important, but how important it is to "Joe Public" Do they notice the intricacies, or do they just enjoy the songs aslong as they can hear the singing? I do wonder.....
Yup - thought the same for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. We usually have a few people we know at most of our gigs who are muso's and they might offer a bit more when it comes to FOH sound, but IME the average punter is only concerned if they can't hear the singer properly..

All the best with it - it looks amazing - been toying with getting a fretless myself, prob wouldn't spend that much tho! Good luck with it.. -
Yup - normal for that age / model. And a really nice example too. MUST. NOT. BUY. ANY. MORE. BASSES.

Not a user of TC cabs or MarkBass heads, but I'd say you can use those safely together - True that the combined rated power of the cabs will be 400 watts at 4ohms, and the amp is able to put out 500 watts at 4ohm. But it would be fine - just dont turn the amp all the way up! I actually know a chap who uses a single RS112 with a TC RH750 head all the time. Certainly IMHO though, 2 of them with the LM2 should be plenty loud enough in a band setting.

Turned up today would you believe! Awesome! 12 calendar days from order placed to delivery. Incl. 2 weekends. Cool!

I've got the 7 version of this: - http://www.amazon.co...QK6J1YXDTZ9DG2M nice and cheap and works a treat - I dont move it anywhere mind - just home static use. Little bit fiddly to put together.
Wow, I thought was getting a bargain at three fiddy!
Yeah I definitely got lucky. Guy just wanted rid and it was grubby and poorly setup. Few hours and some new strings on it and it ended up sweet!

Cool thanks HH, guess it can't have been too much of a wait then..logging in and checking the order status every day doesn't help!
