Dealing with digital mixer / IEM objections
LewisK1975 replied to geoham's topic in General Discussion
We use the X18 (also operated by yours truly) and only 2 of us on in-ears, My 2p: - I want to hear everything including the punters, IEMs will be too isolating - Ambient Mic will work fine. Although I don't find the isolation half as bad as some people imagine it'll be. - What do we do if the iPad crashes or WiFi stops working? - I only use it with a wired connection to a laptop. If you're dead set on wireless, then get an external router, the built in one isn't very good. - On having an app to control a personal monitor mix: I’ll never be able to do it, too complicated. (From the singer, who has the biggest objections to IEMs, but constantly wanting ‘more me’ and causing feedback with his mic antics) - You can setup his mix for him initially. A few minor tweaks later, you'll probably find he stops asking at all from gig to gig. This can also be done these days on a relatively modest budget. I'd suggest hard-wired IEM at first, as decent Wireless IEM units are not cheap. We use the Behringer P1's, but the newer, smaller P2 units are also good and cost about 30-odd quid each. As far as earphone themselves, the KZ ZS10's seem very much in favour for those wanting to dip a toe into IEM's and can also be got for 30-odd quid. -
Been on 45-105 Super Bright Nickels for ages now. Love the sound, lower tension and feel of them. Seem to last well for me too.

Oh no! Jazz bass GAS returns.

Lesson learned, always take a backup bass
LewisK1975 replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I always take a spare Bass, and have plenty of cables. Don't use an amp, but if my Helix has any issues, I can either go directly into the PA (XR18) or I have a Sansamp Paradriver DI in my case. -
+1

@BrunoBass, get your Drummist to read this. This pretty much covers it!

Good score and you're correct - Rich Boucher is a lovely guy, we use to work together before he got the FFAF gig.

Ah that's a shame - for future reference most rehearsal spaces will have amps/cabs you can rent along with the room, usually pretty cheaply too. Saves spending out on gear in the initial stages of bands.. Also as someone said earlier, rehearsal should be done at relatively low volume anyway. My band practice in one of our living rooms. Practice amps, electronic drum kit, No vocal amplification. Works just fine.

Just knew I shouldn't have said yes to a band.

MY biggest annoyance too - Turn up for a rehearsal and it's clear when someone hasn't been learning their parts individually. 'Have you learned the song mate?' 'Yeah I had a quick listen' -
It's simple in theory - At pub/club level, you're free to play with whomever you like. Whatever goes in the diary first gets your services.

Played one of these in Wunjo a while back, very nice indeed! I wasn't a fan of the Vol/Tone/3-way personally, I prefer VBT or VVT. Lovely Bass though, and congrats!

Wal Pro II-E, form an orderly queue

Forgive me if I've missed something, but what shows that this has a non-original neck? -
Squier JV P starting very cheap...

Looks like it's been somewhere very damp for a very long time! if not actually underwater! -
Same here - my first Bass was a Black body / white guard / Maple neck Marlin Slammer Precision copy. I know now it was rubbish, but it got me started! One showed up locally on FB for £60 and I nearly bought it, just for sentimental value....

I think perhaps if the pickup covers and / or knobs were red as well it would tie it all together a bit better. Still a lovely Bass though!, Congrats!

Sorry Matt, it went a few years ago! Sold it to @SH73

That Sparkle Blue looks amazing. I had one of those MIJ Steve Harris P's from about 2009 (the ones before the WHU badge MIM ones) and I reckon I'd find it hard to tell the difference in the 2 paint jobs. Lovely!

New Squier Classic Vibes for pre-order at Thomann
LewisK1975 replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Bass Guitars
This can usually be easily remedied - loosen the neck screws a little and give the neck a pull sideways whichever direction is needed to correct it, and re-tighten. Not uncommon for this to happen when stuff is transported around the world. I had it on a Mex Geddy Lee Jazz. Took me 30 seconds to sort it.
