How easy is it to convert a regular 5 string to a high C ? Is it just strings and intonation set-up or is there more to it? Anyone done it -- using one? Thanks Brendan

Can anyone recommend a band photographer?

Elly Lucas is very creative: http://www.ellylucas.co.uk/ Brendan -
Yeah sorry I didn't really qualify it did I. Do not need big volume at moment if so will go to PA or I still have my rig. This is for playing with acoustic guitar/vocals or Sax & percusion (not a full kit). I was hoping to find a small flat sounding combo or flat preamp & powered cab. Brendan
-
What is the best way to get a "Direct to recording board" sound live? Is there a combo that can do it? Or do you need to go down the channel strip/Avalon pre into PA speaker route? Thanks Brendan
-
Blimey, I thought my Eden WT1205 made some buzzing noise when idle -- But that Acoustic takes the biscuit!! B
-
Thanks Not come across him before, great player, some nice videos on his website too B

As others say you can set the volume as you wish. However for me the cooling fans on Ashdown & other makes of amp that are on all the time are too loud for home or low volume studio use. Not just the fan mechanics but the air they suck in. Not an issue in a band environment.

I have just remembered why I stopped coming to this site!

Was it in Galic? Could have been Horo Gheallaidh from BBC ALBA (Scotland): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00dry8s Brendan
I haven't had enough money to buy a proper Rickenbacker, I bought a copy from a friend. I was planning to buy one, but not anymore. There's no way I'm supporting a company like that. Way to go!
+1 I would never buy from such a short sighted company. People buy a copy & aspire to the genuine article. Stupid

I have seen Dave (Gilmour) play a fretless bass (black JD) with Sam Brown live. I think he did play (fbass) on Kate's early stuff. He also played fretless bass with the Floyd (Wall, plus others)
Fascinating stuff! Does anyone else think that could be a Cameron Crowe movie here (complete with Nancy Wilson soundtrack if they're still together)?? You know, a failed embittered writer with health problems finds redemption thru the example of his idol, a brilliant but embittered artist who he requires as a genius but everyone thinks is a sociopath, who himself finds redemption thru the love of a good woman! The writer is friends with another couple with a dysfunctional relationship, a working musician who never quite hits the big time and his beautiful and sassy wife who has a meanstreak and who the writer is secretly in love with. All we need is a romantic interest, maybe an ex girlfriend who never stopped loving the writer but couldn't live with his negativity, who comes back into his life to complete his rehabilitation. In the final heartwarming scene he gets a positive prognosis on his illness and delivers the final draft of his novel to an optimistic publisher! Perhaps the basis of a pitch to CC there?? No... just me then!
No it is not a "Movie" it is real life! People are being crapped on like this in all walks of life! Telling it staight just gets one ridiculed. It is all about bums on seats/selling product.
From left to right, Bronagh Gallagher, angeline ball, Maria Doyle Kennedy (who was also in an episode of father ted) Hang on - you asked about basses, didnt you ...
LOL, Yeah what bass???

Thanks Chris -- Mmmm maybe I need to get one! (I will tell the wife it's your fault LOL) B

How do these compare to L6 pod for "tone suck"? Do they bypass pure? Thanks B

I would say it is either Herbie Flowers or Klaus Voormann playing -- with either of them there is a whole body of work to check-out!! Keep you busy for some time Brendan

1989 Stanley Clarke DB jazz gig on Sky Arts 2 right now!
This will be repeated for weeks, months, possibly even years,if anyone missed it.
LOL yeah good old Sky arts -
My 'other' choice. Still Entwistle. Excuse the mildly ridiculous choice of song (it's a Disco piss-take) but it's probably the finest recorded example of his astounding Alembic stereo sound. If the riff ain't enough, jump to the monster solo at 1:22. He even throws in a little 8 string later, just for a laugh.
Thanks to Cosmo for the two Entwistle's -- Reminded me why I started to play bass. On the Sparks one If you roll or switch to just left channel you can enjoy just bass & drums Loverly!!!
+1 great rock bassist, always mixed too low on recordings +1 also (haven't figured how to multiquote...) to Andy Rourke (Smiths) and Derek Forbes (Simple Minds) - absolutely key to the sound of two of my favourite bands Mine; Barry Adamson (ex Magazine, Bad Seeds); in my top three of any list - such an effortlessly simple great sound and groove Andy Pask (Landscape) - shame about the dire "Einstein a Go-go" as they were a great quirky jazz-rock outfit, saw them at Eric's in Liverpool 1980 - inspired me to change to fretless Bassist with "Roxy Music" Manifesto-era; John Gustafason? Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) - no virtuoso, but solid & funky
Good call on Barry -- Manifesto era Roxy would be Alan Spenner Gusto did the 3 Albums before both great players. I will add Colin Hodgkinson & Carles Benavent (I think Bilbo mentioned him but worth another shout)
