I've always thought the bass part sounds too precise to be played by a human.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/smason/142075706/sizes/l/
Haha, beat me to it, but +1 to the above. In one of the bands I was in, back in the 70's, our keyboard player had one of the staple combination set-ups of the time: a Wurlitzer electric piano (later a Fender Rhodes) plus a Hohner D6 Clavinet. (I loved that sound). He then added one of the (then) new Korg synths. Can't remember the model but it was only monophonic. Not bad for solo's anyway. He 'upgraded' to a Moog.
Them were the day hey? Looking at your avatar I guess you like me also love the sound of the Melotron? I would love to work in a band with someone with one of those, but would hate to help them carry it!! B
I've always wondered how this amazing bass sound was achieved. Is it a synth? Surely they weren't using bass synths on record then...or am I wrong? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubd2uUPT5ww
Most of the sounds were generated with one of these Clavinet Probably the bass line is tic/tak of Clav & real bass? (I can't hear it properly at moment I am on laptop speakers). Brendan

Bruce Foxton - Even More Of A Genius Than I Thought
Sonic_Groove replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
Foxton's the reason I first played bass. I love his stuff - always lots going on, but most importantly, the bassline always fitted the song. Scrimped and saved when I was a kid to buy a jetglo Ric like the one he used on the Going Underground video. I can remember being horrified that I actually didn't sound exactly like him when I plugged it in, too Having been a fan since I was a kid, I think I can play *most* of his basslines. To add to the list of more obscure tracks with nice bass lines above: - All Mod Cons David Watts Mr Clean In the Crowd Butterfly Collector The Planner's Dream Goes Wrong To be honest, it's hard to find a Jam album without a couple of corking bass lines on! Mark.
Yep same here Bruce was my original personal development The Bass lines on such as: All Mod Cons Fly Butterfly Collector Funeral Pyre, Etc, Etc Would be great in any genera -- Listen to the live at the BBC stuff, when he steps back from his vocal mic & it picks up the spiting sounds of his Marshall stack, mixed with the close miked cab -- Sounds phenomenal. Bring back the late 70's!!! (I feel old now!!!) Brendan -
Then I went to Rig of Doom version 2: That was an Ampeg SVT BSP for the clean lows, and a Pod Pro XT for the Highs and FX - used each side of the Yamaha poweramp into Harke Pro 2200 2x12 cabs. Then I started to blend 4 tones, so I could have frequency specific drive. Dear god it was MASSIVE.
Wow it looks massive & cool. There are two pods aren't there? (one guitar one bass) did you blend them or run separate pick-ups amps? Have fun building your new one (and can you bring it round for the morons next door to me (I don't have neighbours) to hear?
They limit the distance your fingers can travel through the strings which allows you to play faster and with a lighter touch.
Thanks, Not for me then! (+ it only has 5 strings) I guess that is why it is a signature model, kind of restricted to a particular style. I like to mix it up sometimes soft often times grunt. In the old days broken strings were a badge of honor LOL I need to check out Hadrien I am sure he is phenomenal (/jealous)

What on earth are those "ramp" things for? Surely limit dynamic range & technique? B

Bass pics you have to keep coming back to

I have fallen for Wizbat's 6 string Shukers (Shukerbackers!) But it is very perverted having a set of twin's!!! LOL http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...st&id=31096 -
From the US I know that I'll have to pay 3.9% plus vat (not sure if this is 15% for importing or 17.5%) and the the usual handling charge. Are there any other risks I should know about? I've put a post on a EB forum with the serial number just to make sure its a genuine guitar.
Yes any warrantee is void -- Also, Do not use Bass Central (Florida) they know this and do not give a sh*t if you get a dud! (I know from bitter experience) B
Spotted it in Johnny Roadhouse Manchester. I think next time i'll go for a custom order, A Mark King Classic with the Saturn Inlays, possibly with fancier woods. The Custom order Supernatural on the 1st page is awesome.
Well Done Andy: You just beat me to this I was going to go back & look at it as a companion to my Supernatural MK (shop was too busy on the Saturday for me!) – Then it was gone Nice Bass B
Yes - looks like a 4001S or a 4000 modded to take a single P pickup. More interesting (to me, at least) is Paul Gilbert playing a vintage JapCrap LP copy - it's an Ibanez Deluxe 59er, pre 1976. Respect. Jon.

He's got an enormous collection of vintage Ibanez guitars.
The early 70's Ibanez is probably much better than anything that ever came out of the Gibson factory. However, both amps must be crap as they breakdown halfway through leaving the overplaying drummer on his own (he proceeds to sound like he fell down the stairs carrying his drums )
PLEASE............TAKE THE CHROME BUMPER OFF OF THAT BASS!!!!!!
I guess if you are playing with a pick & upside-down like that (it is strung as a right hand) then the cover is useful -- But it doesn't "look well" does it? B
Now I have GAS for a Roadie II. Thanks!

Thanks mate, I now officially have severe Jaydee-GAS.
LOL Sorry about that guys I think the series ii v iii thing is a slight difference in body size -- but hopefully someone who knows fully will be along to explain. The necks on the old ones don't move so much if you use 45's & this also changes the "only good for slapping" thing. Anyone tried Flats on a Jaydee? B
-
As a reaction to some optimistic S/H Jaydee prices here is a link to John's current price list: http://www.jaydeecustomguitars.co.uk/bass_price_list.html Ok there maybe a waiting list --- but they seem like bargains! B
Once again I bought Bass Player mag and once again, apart from a Christian McBride feature, there's nothing of interest to me. Less pages, same adverts, same price. Someone wrote in bemoaning this, and the answer was 'blame it on the economy'. They said there was loads of stuff to read on their website, but that sounds like a cop out to me. I'd hate to stop buying BP, and I'd hate to see it go down the pan, as I've been a supporter for many years, but it looks like I'm going to have to check it out properly in the store before deciding to buy it. The last two issues I could have read in Smith's in 5 mins. Compared to BGM with it's (relatively minor) faults, I'm afraid our publication wins hands down.
+1 We pay a premium for US mags & it used to be worth it as they were very interesting & different -- The 'blame it on the economy' quip they keep using is a cop-out in a tight capitalist economy you need to work harder & be more competitive! Got to vote also for some Barry Adamson -- His Magazine sound/stuff was (is) always Brill... Has anyone tried the new Orange SP212 Isobaric's yet? I was wondering how they compare to the Yank 12's that are around? B
