  1. Also on the marketplace at just shy of your £500 max budget, a very nice and super versatile MiM PJ...
  2. Another very nice bitsa on the marketplace if you fancy a rosewood board, now down to £250 delivered!
  3. Before you write off Airbnb, keep in mind that there are a lot of properties on there which have been bought specifically for this purpose and aren't peoples homes at all. I had to travel to Hull a lot for work last year and found a lovely flat which was the same price as the premier inn across the road and a lot more comfortable and spacious. Also did the same for my folks when they came up to visit earlier this year.
  4. Interesting question. If something is determined to be a fact, then any expression of opinion which is counter to that is ultimately pointless as facts aren't up for debate, but opinions are. I'm not sure that accepting that an electronic "fix" would be reason enough to dismiss the conversation. The effect of wood on tone is still up for debate whether electrics are employed to negate any changes.
  5. Cool project, enjoying this build! Ooo, will the humbucker position not foul the truss rod adjuster? I know the neck usually needs to come off for set up with these, but thinking more for minor tweeks.
  6. I'd always assumed it would be the opposite of that, but that's probably because of the visual tone of the wood influencing my brain. Thing is, all basses have tone controls, so just a little tweek of the bass or treble will negate the apparent affect of the woods..?
  7. Hmmm interesting!! Cheers dude, I'll take a look 👍🏻
  8. Where are you getting these from?? I've not done a resto in years and yours has wetted my appetite. I used to get them off ebay but there been anything worth taking on for such a long time...
  9. £300 + delivery. Sell the body, job done https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173865962225
  10. Buy a cheap mex fender jazz and have the neck fettled with by a Luther to get it all special and that.
  11. I'd love to see hide functionality brought in so I can only show the ads I'm interested in. So, for example, any 5/6 strings would be hidden, as would fretless etc.
  12. Interesting! I almost bought a highway one (maybe even this one) as they seem very reasonably priced for a US bass.
  13. No offence to OP but... To check authenticity and general condition, twisted/misaligned necks etc. £750 is a lot of money to spend on the basis of stock images from a supplier.
  14. Just to echo the comments expressing sympathy for the reason for sale. Wish I was in a position to take this one off your hands. Glwts 🙏🏻
  15. Just because there's not enough choice and confusion already, there's a very nice Spector Coda on the bay for around £200... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292967334632
  16. Re. pick guard, I'd be inclined not to use it and instead have a decal of the logo printed and just apply it to the body where the thunderbird logo would sit
  17. Ooo you've just reminded me of a Fender amp made from a whisky barrel. Not strictly a relic but still a lovely thing, very Seasick Steve 😁
  18. I took this as a genuine question, it's one I've pondered myself. I'm personally quite a fan of a well done relic but I also love a minter. There is a certain beauty in an object which is aged and weathered, not to mention a uniqueness. I think it also gives an authenticity to the player, making them look like a seasoned pro. My understanding of the origin of relicing is that it comes from Keith Richards asking Fender to relic a new Tele they built for him as it was too new and shiny. I believe he wanted a copy of his fav guitar (called Micawber!?), fender custom shop did it and relicing was born. I like your classic car analogy, although there is a section of enthusiasts who restore some cars (and bikes) to a standard which keeps the patina of rusty/sunbleached paint etc. I feel this is an American thing more than European, think rusty pickups and ratty harleys. That said, I wouldn't know if they'd take unoriginal wear and add it like with guitars. Probably though. In Merica, if they can, they do. The only simile I can think of of relicing (although I'm sure there's many more), is with furniture and the whole shabby chic thing. That too can look great when done really well, but like guitars, it's not easy to get the authentic look.
  19. Make sure to give the fretboard a good clean when you get it home 😂
