1. The tragic thing is that there are now people out there who think that that's what a bass should sound like. S.P.
 2. The bass player is Joey DeMaio, and the band is Manowar. The bass is, I believe, a one-off, christened "Demon II". If you look at this video you will witness that he's not really a bass player at all. Edit: I hasten to add that I am not an expert on this genre of music, not in the slightest. However, I am quite adept at using Google. I started by obtaining a list of the bands playing at Sonisphere Bulgaria 2010, of which there were 8. There were only a couple of names that I didn't recognise, so I used Wikipedia and Google Image Search to obtain a visual match on the bass player. Once I had the bass player's name, it was fairly easy to find out more about the equipment that he uses. S.P.
 3.
This listing (220627264865) has been removed, or this item is not available.
S.P.
 4. What's going on with the E string at the bridge? I haven't seen that before. S.P.
 5.
The speaker cab sockets will be wired in parallel, as will the outputs on the amp, so no difference whatsoever!
If all else is equal, it is better to plug both cabs into separate sockets on the amp. Here's why. If you were to daisy chain Amp - Cab 1 - Cab 2 then there are two things to note - one is that the speaker cable between Amp and Cab 1 is carrying double the load, and the second is that the total length of speaker cable between the Amp and Cab 2 is twice as much as if you weren't daisy chaining. S.P.
 6. [s][sup]Sorry, no idea mate.[/sup][/s] S.P.
 7. I don't know what you're complaining about. I think it's fair of Korg to say that filling your tuner pedal with beer invalidates their warranty. For them to fix it FOC is an enormous gesture of goodwill, and I think that by coming on here and posting a complaint anyway, you're showing a deal of ingratitude. S.P.
 8.
Sorry, just thought it did as the key feature of this bass is the orange finish
Indeed. It's like saying "Wow, I love your cat. I wish I had one just like it, but long and thin and reptilian with a penchant for constricting its prey." S.P.
 9.
From what I can see in the downloadable manual, the Polytune only works in polyphonic mode if you use standard tunings (EADGBE) or drop tuning where you transpose all the strings down by the same amount (up to 5 semitones). I does appear to be able to cope with 6 string bass where the highest string is C rather than B, but that's the limit of alternate tunings.
Interestingly, the polytune does have a built-in USB port, but the use of it is undocumented. I'd imagine that some suitably-motivated hacker could figure out how to reprogram the device to allow any tuning. S.P.
 10. Also, what would the consequences have been if the valves were put back in the wrong slots? Fire risk, or just poor tone? S.P.
 11. Very satisfying to read all this. It sounds like you have risen to the challenge nicely. S.P.
 12.
Maybe my memeory is a bit rosy...but paying to play was not the norm.
The sad truth is that in the majority of places round this country, the number of people wanting to play live music exceeds the number of people that want to watch local live music. Pubs make more money if they show the football than if they put a band on, because football supporters drink more and there's no soundman to pay. It has to be said that, with exceptions, putting on original music is not economically sustainable. S.P.
 13.
It's got to me so much, I have gone out and bought another amp, one which I am willing to lend out. So I can keep my rig for myself, and provide a combi for anyone that needs to borrow.
At risk of ruining another night's sleep for you: what happens if the first band breaks the combo, and the promoter asks to use your rig for the rest of the night? Will you refuse? S.P.
 14.
Depends on how important the gig is to you as, of course, this may mean the promoter refuses to let you play and your band may not appreciate that much.
Easy solution: "sorry, it's not my amp, I'm borrowing it from a friend, and he says that I'm not to lend it out." S.P.
 15.
"Rant over, but KWIM?" People are telling you they don't know what you mean.
Ohhhh, KWIM means "Know What I Mean". Ironically, I didn't know what that meant. S.P.
 16.
You see, you have mistaken his intentions. You thought he was just making a few snidey comments, when in fact he was destroying your whole life and leaving you a crumpled, wretched shell, preyed on for years by the thought of his remarks.
The terrorists have won. S.P.
 17. Everyone has their own way of dealing with such situations. Myself, I wouldn't have blanked the guy in this situation, because he probably wouldn't have made the connection - he'd just think that you were a grumpy old git, and nothing has been achieved. I'd be more likely to respond to "alright mate" with "I hear you don't think much of my tone or equipment. Shall we talk about that?" Watch, and delight, as he backpedals furiously. "Nah mate, not that I don't like it, nothing wrong with it, I just don't think it's for me, burble burble burble..." Alternatively, maybe he actually does know more than you, and you might learn something. S.P.
 18.
Also the DI seems to be pre-eq (ie flat) only, so you can't send your preamp sound as a DI.
That is correct. Could be a dealbreaker to some, but it's no secret that if you're looking for piles of features in the LH500/LH1000, then you've come to the wrong place. S.P.
 19.
Reckon you should do something to make very sure which is which.
Use this gallery instead: http://imgur.com/a/T6HH8/bassface S.P.
 20.
Is it possible to know (or at least predict) the power handling (in W) of a driver without having especific machines to measure that? I have two 6" drivers at home that came with a old and brandless speaker (wich is long departed) and all i can know about they is their impedance and measurements. No serial or brand on them whatsoever... Is there any kind of equation to predict it's power handling or is just putting a specific frequency through it and measuring it?
It's calculated by taking one speaker from a batch, putting power through it until the voice coil melts, and then labelling the remaining speakers with that power rating. So if you're willing to sacrifice one of your 6" speakers, you could discover the power handling of the other one. S.P.
 21.
Updated url for the Compact is: http://barefacedbass.com/index.php?page=compact
This url also seems to work, but is prettier: http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/compact.htm S.P.
 22. From the perspective of your clients, that is a very attractive deal. If you're happy to work for that rate, then go for it. S.P.
 23. I'd suggest having an hourly rate for recording, and then a flat per-song rate for mixing and mastering. Then you're covered in case they turn up under-rehearsed and need 3,000,000 takes to get it right. S.P.
 24.
what happens when you but a 8ohm can and 4ohm cab together?
Combined impedance is (1/4 + 1/8) ^ (-1) = 2.66 ohm. If you are using an amp with a minimum impedance of 2 ohm then the power will be split in a 1/3 : 2/3 ratio (the larger share going to the 4 ohm cab). Your amp's minimum impedance is 4 ohm, so in your case, you would get fireworks. S.P.
