Thought that may be.....did consider taking the head part of the combo out and using through a new 4 ohm cab, either 4x10 or 1x15 with tweeter, as I like the sound I get from the amp right up til it distorts!!!!!
If you're looking to keep the same sound, but louder, then I'd suggest selling the combo and buying a Hartke LH500 and the HX410. It's an 8 ohm cabinet, so if you need even more volume, then just buy a second one. S.P.
 2. Sounds like you might have reached the limits for the speakers. You might be able to get more clean volume by cutting the lows and boosting the mids, but in the long run I think you're looking at a new rig. S.P.

 5. Don't get the Little Giant on the basis of cost. As some wise person once said, you'll still be playing through the thing long after you've forgotten how much it cost. S.P.

 7.
Hi, I recently bought a Hartke LH1000. When I turn it on the relay protection circuit clicks on after about three seconds like it is supposed to but then there is no sound and it takes approx 5-10 seconds for the sound to start coming out? Is this normal? Does this happen to other people who use the LH series? Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
My LH500 does this too. It's normal. S.P.
 8. In my opinion, the biggest drawback would be that it can be hard to hear yourself clearly at high volumes, so it will be much harder to know if you are in tune or not. I'm also not sure whether there would be any benefits, as it's not a genre that gives a fretless bass much opportunity to show its talents. If you end up spending the whole time watching your left hand to make sure that you're in tune, and the end result sounds exactly the same as it would if you were playing a fretted bass, then I'm not sure that you've gained anything. S.P.
 9.
From what I understand, when using one 8ohm cab with my 4ohm amp I'm not getting the full whack from my amp, right? Well whats to stop me making up a little board with a simple RCL circuit with the other 8ohms on it and pluging it into the other speaker port? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron but audio stuff is just past my limited electronic theory!
You'd still get exactly the same power into your non-decoy speaker cabinet. S.P.
 10.
I was thinking, you can't imagine violinists having this discussion .... "In the 1680s all we had was Stradivarius, now we've got Yamaha and Hofner and, er ..." Then I found this Stradivaris-home-town-fears-cheap-violins.html Violin, bow and case for £13. We're being robbed.
From the article:
"I have seen violins with all my hallmarks, the little details I always add in, which were not mine. It is impossible to tell them apart."
If it is impossible to tell them apart, then how do you know that they're not actually your violins? S.P.
Hope Alex is OK -- he'll surely be along soon to explain all in his own inimitable, tech-heavy way!
Actually, he did mention something back here about a trip round Europe, so that might be it. In which case he might not be back for another week yet. S.P.

I think that shouldn't be necessary. S.P.
 16. Did a 40th birthday party last night. Violinist couldn't make it, so some of the songs sounded a little sparse, but we did okay. There were a couple of moments when we lost the plot slightly, but we pulled it back on course. At one point I noticed a guy sat down watching me like a hawk. "Righto, " I thought, "fellow bass player then." He remained seated throughout, and every time I looked in his direction, he was still glaring at me. I started to get a little bit paranoid, and was conscious that he was probably making a mental list of every tiny bass-related flub. After we'd finished, him and his wife came up to us with huge smiles on their faces telling us how tight we sounded (which I internally took credit for, because when people say "the band sounds tight" what they generally mean, albeit unknowingly, is "the bass and drums sound tight"), how good the sound was (which I internally took credit for, because, as usual, the band leader set the mixing console up next to my bass amp and said "Stylon, you'll be okay doing the PA, right?"). I asked him if he was a bass player, and he said "well, I play a bit of bass, but it's not my main instrument." So I'd been getting all worried about nothing. I'll remember that for next time. S.P.

 19.
Forget the posed stuff and get live shots. They say so much more about you as a band
I understand what you're saying, but I think it's down to personal preference. I've been to the myspace page for Linus27's new band, and the music that they are playing is quite clean, refined pop. Not necessarily chart-friendly*, but certainly family-friendly. I think that if they are looking for promo photos then the professional route might be preferable. S.P. * I feel the need to append: I say this because of the nature of the charts, not because I think that Linus27's band aren't good enough. If anything, they are too good.
 20.
However, I still have to question, what the difference tonally there is between say a 1x15, 2x10 and 4x10 and infact a 2x12 for that matter and why do manufacturers offer the different configurations.
In theory: there is no tonal difference, and the reason why manufacturers offer the various options is that most bass players have a slavish adherence to a particular setup (ie they believe that they prefer the sound of 10s etc, or they believe that they need a 410+115 to get their desired tone) and so you need to offer some variety in order to capture the entire market. In practise: if you take a 410 and a 115 which are made with cheap drivers, and then push them beyond the limits of their clean excursion by putting 200 watts into each, then they will sound very different. You will end up with "the 410 sound" and "the 115 sound". S.P.
 21.
I've noticed the Barefaced Big One being referred to as the Bigone. That doesn't scan too well, is it a Big one or a Bi gone? So I think henceforth it should be written like this: Barefaced BigOne
It won't work. I agree with your sentiment, but trying to get people to refer to your product in a specific way is like pushing kittens uphill. And I prefer "Big One" to "BigOne". 22. It's a great-looking bass, both aesthetically and in spec, and I'd certainly come round for a try, if it weren't for the fact that I can't really see it fitting in with any of my current projects, and it's too nice a bass to sit on the wall until the right gig comes along. Incidentally, it's considered good etiquette to delete any old "bump" posts before the last one. S.P.
 23. Contact Ashdown here. They'll let you know how to get hold of a replacement. If you just drop in any old random 15" driver, you may not get a nice sound. Let them know that it's only had 100 hours and you weren't pushing it hard - they might waive the warranty and replace it for you. S.P.
 24. Insert obligatory BarefacedBass Big One plug here. S.P.
