1. They had some QC issues when they first moved production to China, but for the most part, Ashdown stuff is good. S.P.
 2. If you can try them both, then I'd suggest doing so. If that's not an option, I think that the Ashdown is probably a better bet. The Laney puts 65W into a 12" speaker. The Ashdown puts about the same wattage into a 15" speaker, but you have the option of connecting up an additional 8 ohm cabinet, and then you'll be able to get about 100W out of it. If weight is an issue, you might be better with the Laney, as it weighs 19kg, whereas the Ashdown weighs 27kg (according to mfr specs) S.P.
 3.
Conventional NiMH rechargeables self-discharge far too quickly to be a good idea in basses. However the newer 'Hybrio' ones that are fully charged when new are very good and have almost zero self-discharge (about 10%/yr) - I gather they are now available in a PP3 size. I've been using the AAs for a while and am very impressed. Alex
Sounds like I might need to get a couple of those for one of my cameras. I have a Pentax Optio S30 that I use infrequently, and it seems to be really sensitive to voltage, because I only need to leave a pair of NiMH batteries (AA) in there for about two weeks before it gives me a "Battery discharged" error when I try to turn it on. S.P.
LMAO, that one 'caused a coffee/keyboard incident The reason for the scratchplate is I've been amazed by the amount of scratches on my Overwater's scratchplate from my finger nails. I thought that a clear perspex guard would protect the finish against this whilst being easily replaceable.
I use one of these: S.P.
 5.
Hello, and welcome to Basschat. Just so you are aware, your asking price is over £100 more than buying a new one here in the UK, and that's before anyone adds shipping from the UK and the import duties they'd have to pay.
Your link was to the Shuttle 6, whereas the seller is selling a Shuttle 6 MAX. Different amp, costs about £775. S.P.
 6. Yep, if you look here, there are plenty. S.P.
 7.
The prototype new site: http://barefacedbass.bassmandesigns.com/ (that sired this thread!)
Ah, so all these people working busily on their mockups were wasting their time. Never mind. S.P.
 8.
Sounds like you need to work on your entertainment and marketing factors ...
Harsh, but so very true. S.P.
 9. Played a gig last night. Crowd numbered about seven Four were the other band. S.P.
 10. Prime bassface there, and a nice bit of "bassclaw" at 1:43. S.P.
 11.
And even a video tour of the cabs. If people can see you (or a glamorous assistant) wandering around the cabs, it'll help gauge the scale of them.
I like this idea. Especially if you then show a 10 year old girl picking a Compact up and putting it in the boot of a car. S.P.
 12. 1. Menu navigation should be improved. "Compact", "Big Series", "Vintage" and "Midgets" should be grouped together in some way, or under a "Products" sub-heading. Also, if "News" is obsolete, then remove it from the menu. 2. Some sort of nifty graphic that allows you to visualise the relative sizes of the cabs. 3. There seems to be a bug in the menu - I'm only seeing links to "PA" from the "Midgets" and "FAQ" pages. Minor website suggestions: 1. A table with a fixed width of 900 pixels is not very neat. Could you put it in a div with a max-width of 900px instead? 2. Make a smaller version of the logo and make sure that it appears on every page. As far as the information in the Technical and FAQ pages is concerned, it seems pretty complete to me. S.P.

 14.
Why don't you try gigging with your present rig before buying another?
Methinks that the GAS fairy is currently lodging in Linus27's attic. S.P.
 15.
Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody has got any opinions/guidance on this combo. I've read some mixed reviews so far,but they were mainly for the EB12-180,not the EVO II version. I mainly want it for rehearsals & small gigs...Can this amp handle it??? Thanks in advance!!
The only difference between the EVO II and the previous version is that the EVO II has a compressor built in. I own the version without the compressor and it's perfect for rehearsals and small gigs. Linus27 might be willing to sell you his MAG300 head with MAG115 cab for £240 - for sale thread here. S.P.
 16. What about buying the head, trying it with your MAG 210 cab, and then upgrading to a 410 at a later date if required? S.P.
 17.

It must be really hard to use the pedals up there. Do you have a small ladder that you stand on? S.P.
 18. I've recently decided to switch from fretless gigging to fretted. I enjoy playing the fretless, but I would tend to spend the whole time looking at my left hand, and gigs are more fun when you're looking at the crowd. S.P.
 19.
Have you tried the Hartke LH's mate? I moved from an ABM EVOII to an LH1000 and it's just great. A good 8 ohm cab will cane a 4 ohm too.
Last thing I knew, he was trying my LH500 tomorrow night. Though it sounds like he might have moved on. S.P.

 22. 2001 Vauxhall Astra. Haven't really pushed it to the limits of its capacity but I do know that you can't get a Peavey 115BX BW in the boot without dropping the seats. However, you can get an Ashdown EB12-180 or a Barefaced Compact in the boot with room to spare for a 30W guitar combo. S.P.
 23.
Lessons have given me technique and I know my way around a fretboard but my playing’s mechanical and I can’t ‘groove’ to save my life. Any tips on how to become a proper bass player?
Do the things that scare you. Next time the American guy comes up and asks to take your place, politely decline. Sure, last night you got out of having to put yourself up there and be vulnerable in front of the audience, but you also lost the opportunity to advance. S.P.
