1. another neat trick is to roll-off some low end and boost some mids to clear up your tone. when I gig on large stages with huge PA's and subs I try not to compete with the rumble coming from FOH but rather to sculpture my sound "fit" the overall sound so that I can hear myself clearly...it soemtimes sounds absolutely horriblle on it's own but works great i the mix....it also makes your amp much more effective as it doesn't have to "waste" a lot of power on trying to deliver low end at SPL's.
2. he he, I sent the seller an message via ebay: Q: Hello! Been thinking.....what if I take the bass and give you £711 cash today? A: Hi Carl, I do need to let the auction run now as I have already had a bid. Wait a couple of days and I'm sure it will be yours ;-) Mike
3. hmmmm...the guy who is bidding oin the bass now has 30 somthing registerd bids on ebay...12% are with morkeal (the seller of the relisted bass.....) ! small world ehh?
4. Interesting! I bid on the first auction but missed the finale....lucky me I might been of victim of shill bidding!....I asked the seller why the bass was relisted and gave me the same answer...at least the lying bstrd is consistent....... This is the feedback the seller gave the buyer (who greacefully bowed out...) Great Ebayer, highly recomended AAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++ Yep, I'm sure that what we all feel when someone is ruingin your auctions.....
5.
Ditch the 2 4x10's and get yourself a Schroeder 410L at 4 ohms, you won't notice the difference. And I'm only guessing but I reckon a host of BC'ers are going to suggest a Mark Bass Little Mark II. Haven't heard one myself but lightweight and apparently a very good amp for it's size. I'd stick with the Ashdown though ;0)
+1 for t shroeder...amazing cab! I#d recommedn teh LM F1....very light and powerful and sounds great with the as it has a bit more extended low and high end compared to the LMKII.
6. Yeah I'd check your cabs before shifting the amp - I use an F1 (500w into 4 ohms) into Schroeder 410L (ehhh...1200w @4ohms I think) and that is plenty loud and I haven't noticed any compression (so far). a 4x10 is a great cab but has its llimites in terms of much air it can move.....double the cone area and you will be able to move much more air....How big stages are you doing??? Are you using monitors? Sidefills??? If you are doing heavy rock at serioulsy big stages that you need to up your rig to "touring" specs....think Ampeg SVT plus 8x10 or equivilent in SPL. You have got a very nice rig but may not be designed to fill a stadium!
7. I like the minimistic approach too: - bass (bass pending on gig) - amp and cab (set-up pending on gig) - rucksack with: - guitar leads, speaker leads, kettle leads, batteries - all of this x 2 - Di box - Music Stand - My pad (with whatever music that's on show) - A new set of strings - A little case with some good tools for fixing broken stuff on occasion I try new basses, pedals otr other stuff but alwys bring them as extra to my normal gear.
8. he he...great thread! mine was a song called "Cadillac" by a 60's band that I can't remember for toffee....I started playing bass in the late 70's just when punk exploded and learnt a lot of Sex pistols, the jam, the clash tunes.....my band "the ratz" had our first gig on my parents lawn a Sunday afternoon performing "dangerous" punk songs to our middle class neighbours....how funny! then I moved on to pumping eights in various heavy metal bands ( not sure if they count as bass lines really........then I moved on to 60'/70's funk/soul and later jazz and all sorts of music
9. +1 for a foldable sack trolley...got mine from maplin for £25.
10. ohhh...a vampyre....pics?
11. it's on a UPS truck somewhere! I hope Monday...
12. OK, just got back from the gig and here's a quick download: First 5 songs on EUB: - Gain on “9”, EQ flat.....sounded great right out of the box. My EA CXL112 cab is very transparent and got lots of high end that sometimes doesn’t sound great with my EUB. I did little tweak n the “vintage dial” and managed to tame to CXL considerably and got a great EUB sound with lots of warmth - Lot's of subby low end, mid freq sounds great…very realistic EUB sound to me… The rest of the set with my Wick Stage one 5: - ohhhhhh…….with the EQ flat and just a little of the “VLE” dialled I got a very fat, ballsy and growly sound - It’s very loud…..master on “4” and I managed to keep up with loud drummer and guitarist in a medium sized club wit no PA support - It feels very quick and has a great attack…perfect for slap and fast finger funk! - At the end of the night we did a coupled of rock numbers where I dialled in the “vintage thingy”, boosted low mid, activated the neck pup and I got a very nice tubey blues/rock sound….. So far so good! I’m very impressed – it has the same sort of “hifi” qualities as my old EA iAmp800 (that I like a lot) but it sounds a bit more like a traditional bass amp is you see what I mean. And I love the Ferrari red colour… 
13. Olla! It finally arrived! My new F1....very cool amp indeed: 500w 4ohm, light.....and it fits in my gig bag! I just got it so I haven't played around with it that much yet….so far, sounds a bit like the iAmp800, but less “hifi” if that makes sense, huge low end, nice top end, at least with the CXL. I’m taking her to the gig tonight with my EA CXL 112L to take her for a spin....more details tomorrow! Can’t wait…
14. I got one! I found an auction an evilbay and I got for almost nothing...they are £1,000 new list price and I got mine for £343! lot's of jam for little bread........hope it arrives soon!
15.
Carlos & Dave are absolutely right. The output from the Tubepath's pre is sent via another tube to a 3w amp, which is then amplified by the transformer. It's switchable, and makes a great difference to the tone. I'm only aware of the Tubepath, Mesa's Simulstate, and Dave's DHA heads using this functionality. It was a major selling point for me. I'd love to try one of Dave's heads one day. I considered buying one when he first mentioned them, but I've had a class-D head for a few years now, and I fancied something traditional for a change. Carlos - it'll be a great match for a Schro 410L!
Very interesting concept I must say - hmmm.......need to look into this more carefully.
16. Thanks for the review. I've been looking at these but couldn't find almost any information about them. Great specs and some very interesting concepts. How does the semi-tube poweramp stage work? I'm looking to get a valve hybrid for my Schro 410L (that hopefully will be here soon....) ....aguilar DB750 is one candidate but very expensive...
17. hello, just curious if any BCers has tried the new Ampeg SVT-8Pro head......tube preamp, zillions of watts into 2 ohms, 22 lbs thanks to Class D poweramp....the specs sounds great ...does the amp?
18. HI I have used iAmp CXL112's with my amp heads and that is a great sound. It's a 1x 12 plus horn adn they soudn very punchy at the same time very clean. I thikn that would complement your 10@ speaker in the combo as well. I have one for sale if you are interested.
19. ok, after haveing had this amp for 9 months I'm now letting it go. It's a great little amp, 150w, great eq and limiter, neo speakers, very very light and easy to carry around. The sound is AMAZING and it's perfect for small acoustic/upright gigs and rehearsals. For more info see: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...=pjb+flightcase Here is Ed Friedland's review of the amp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or-tKELedDo They seem to be selling for £495 so my price is £400 ONO Here are some pictures:
