1.
aaaghhgghhghhh i am now GASsing about TC stuff, stop this now please
Do it, buy some stuff! You know you want to...
2. A couple of people I know use TC gear and I was very impressed with their sound. In recent years I've been through Trace, Ashdown and most recently Aguilar cabs but wasn't 100% happy with any of them. After a few conversations at the bass show and a subsequent proper demo at the bass merchant, I was sold and I've now got a 2x12 and the 2x10 will be on it's way soon. For me it's a case of them being around at the time i was looking for something light, powerful and could produce the sound I was looking for without breaking the bank. All I'm waiting for now is for the 750 to come out and the 450 dropping in price as a result! I certainly don't think I'm jumping on a band wagon or getting GAS for something just because it's prominent in the marketplace, I'm not that trendy! One look at the way I dress would illustrate that!
3. Ah, no, it's me being a plum. I didn't see the bit in the OP about it being at 5.49. My apologies, Sorry,
4. Yup "ain't no fun to me" by graham central station. it's on I-tunes store. Good find!
5. Nice site, Thanks for the Yellowjackets & Weckl transcriptions. (speaking of which, i keep meaning to transcribe Man Facing North - great track & solo).
6. Nice, - cheers.
7. Reef - summer's in bloom. I thought i had it somewhere, clearly not, so i did it again.
8. I have an old computer bag which always contains: Spares: Strings, battery instrument cable (jack to jack) speaker cable (jack & speakon) 13A - IEC Spare PSU for my multi FX Spare knobs, screws & castors Tools & bits: pliers, multitool, multimeter hex keys & allen keys screwdriver - 2 x flat, Philips #1, Philips #2 "bass multitool" which came free with a magazine subscription pretty much all audio cable adapters! DI box fuses (all kinds) towel soldering iron & associated gubbins pens & paper (set lists!) picks drum key XLR3 cable RCD 13A 4-way 13A extension (roll up type) book of blank sheet music If anything gets taken out, it gets replaced immediately so I know i've got a gig-get-out-of-jail bag all in one. Also, more importantly, in my Tool-rack, which i take on tour with me i have: Aria sinsonido bass Spare strings Korg pandora line 6 GX USB cable USB footswitch (so i can change pages on my laptop whilst reading music without having to take my hands off my bass) book of sheet music & pencil spare battery Folder of all (usable!) scales & arps & exercises - this is pretty full! and my latest touring purchase: Alesis Q49 Midi-USB controller, so i can practice my piano / general musicianship as well as my bass playing whilst I'm on tour/ All of which fits inside the Sinsonido case, which in turns fits into the door of my well and truly pimped touring tool rack and hooks up to the speaker system installed into it too. This is what happens when you have time on your hands during production rehearsals.
9.
I got your goat.
You shot my boat?
10. Oh, i did have literally about a dozen single unit pedals (some very rare) all hooked up via a gig-rig Midi-8 patch which was truely awesome, but i got REALLY bored of having to mess around with levels and tracing knackered cables etc so i sold the lot to buy the multi-fx. (oh, and i could barely lift the bloody thing!).
11. I've got a Boss GT10-B, it does what i need it to: Variations of overdrive and distortion to suit which ever track i'm playing, very occasional chorus, i use the octave a surprising amount, i do love the thick sound it gives and it fills out a 4-piece band during a guitar solo etc, and as much as i love using auto-wah i try to use it sparingly in case i just spend all night quacking like a duck. The other fancy time based effects are pretty much never used, nor is the fretless simulator or synth etc..
12. Yet another sad loss. RIP.
13.
Mornington Crescent.
Ah, well played sir!
14. I know it definitely was, I THINK it still is, isn't it?
15.
Just a heads up, apparently Staples are selling Duracell batteries off cheap. I haven't been myself so I can't confirm it but I will go and take a look tomorrow. Always handy to have some spares http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/duracell-b...-staples/899176
Sweet, thanks mate!
16. The game!!! Oh, no, sorry, I mean TIM!!
17.
Back in the pre digital days when tape speed sometimes played at different pitches... my favourite ever YouTube clip They've since tracked her down & she is remarkably good humoured about it
Ha ha ha! Brilliant. My mum keeps playing me a tape of a christmas concert when i played trumpet in my primary school orchestra. We did Star Wars, and it sounded pretty much like that, except the whole orchestra was doing it badly.
18. Listen to Jason when he sings at 2.55 The wife was watching this when it was on the telly-box, i wasn't paying attention until i heard that bit and i promptly blurted out "what the hell was that"?!. I was then told to leave the room and leave her alone with her boys. Bah, it's my bloody telly too.
19.
Just for info moulded ear plugs can be had via motorcycle websites and can be done at home. Sorry if this is a bit off thread. Dave
Indeed, these days you can pretty much have them done anywhere, my mate had his done down the pub as the person who was doing them advertises as being a mobile business and will go to anywhere that is convenient and suitable. I had some moulds done at Olympia yesterday. I had some ER15's which rather annoyingly went "missing" at Hammy Odeon last year, it was all about not actually getting round to getting them done until now when i saw the stall and said "yes please" instantly. I ordered the new pro style plugs they were advertising, i'm interested to see how they'll be as they're not the American brand that are imported so the price is cheaper and the technology better.
20.
A gentleman is a man who can play slap bass. And doesn't. Jon.
21.
Now I've not been to Bass Day so can't compare today to that, but I thought it was really good especially when compared to the terrible Guitar Nation and the last Music Live at the NEC. To my ears it was way too loud in the exhibition hall and a solid case for demo rooms (some of the tones were so loud and dense that I felt a little ill when standing in front of the source). Pretty much impossible to evaluate any of the gear from a sound POV which was a shame at it was an absolute bass porn fest! Watched Dave Marks, TM Stevens, Gary Willis and Mark King and for my money Dave Marks was the best by far, worth the price of entry on his own. Bloody good work Dave, I'll definitely be attending one of your rhythm matters seminars when you come round my neck of the woods again! Only got accosted once for wearing my BC T Shirt which was a little disappointing, but there were a lot of punters there. Hopefully BGM will do it again bigger and better next year given the turn out, although if it stayed the same I'd still go anyway.
Me too, however as much as i love bass and playing, i could only manage one day so it was definitely a case of picking your day. Gutted i'm missing Stu Hamm (but i did catch him at the Bass Merchant recently, so i can deal with that) and Cass Lewis, i believe he was supposed to be there today and is now doing the Sunday (?).
22. My apologies, my rant about this particular subject is in the other thread about the Olympia show! I've no personal objection to people playing slap as fast and loud as they can whenever they try something out, if that's what and how they play, which i somehow doubt. It's also the looking around / up to see if anyone is watching and approving which also grinds my gears. Hey ho!
23.
On my way home from the show for the best of reasons.....a gig tonight. Overall, I enjoyed it. Had coffee with Mark from Bass Direct & a long chat with Sheldon Dingwall, two of the nicest gents you could wish to meet. Lots of great gear to see. On the downside, those who suggested taking ear plugs were spot on. Also, it seems that slap is alive & well..... I didn't have time to attend any of the worships, masterclasses, etc. Did I miss much?
I was in heaven! I love nothing more than lots of people playing slap really fast & loudly, after managing to dial a tone into previously beautiful sounding equipment, in order to sound like a dustbin rolling down a hill, pausing only to look up and see if anyone is watching them or not and then continuing a little bit faster and louder. Lovely! Overall I enjoyed it, i saw a couple of particular things that i'll chase up over the next couple of weeks - preferably first thing on a thursday morning etc when i'll stand a chance of actually being able to hear what i'm playing and how it sounds. I saw TM stevens, who was great entertainment, a fabulous player and a great chap too! I've been a fan of his ever since i first heard Sex & religion 15 years ago. It was great to see Mark King, Biggy, Sean Freeman & Gary Husband play too. There's a great respect between the two drummers and they both played brilliantly. I'm not sure i could cope with going both days though.
24. It's quite amusing how obvious lone bass player at earls court tube station waiting for the Olympia train are! (of course I'm one of them too though).
