1. The 1982 Ibanez Roadster is still available!
2. Hi guys, I thought I would share with you our version of the Sam Brown classic Stop! à la Bonamassa. We quite like it..... Enjoy!
3. Thanks for those suggestions. Yes the Hammond was added afterwards to fill it out, with the Rhodes sound alone it was a bit thin. Good idea to pan them each side. When mastering is finished I will put up the 5 songs for your delectation.
4. Hi Douglas, Many thanks for your comments. It was indeed a live take, with guide vocals which were then added afterwards (to avoid bleed into the vocals). Good point about the stereo spread, it would enhance it a little. Bearing in mind most landlords etc will either be listening on a smart phone, cd player or on the pub system, I guess it will not need so much tweaking! Once we have this one right we will copy the settings onto the other 4 tracks we put down and see what happens. We did 5 songs in 4 hours, which we were pretty pleased about.
5. Our band is making a demo disk, just to help get gigs etc. We wanted a fairly 'live' sounding recording. Our first song which is being mixed is attached. I think it is a bit 'muddy'. Keyboards too far forward, snare too far back (not snappy?)...any comments much appreciated!
6. Very nice, that is a classic shot! I never had such shennanigans going on when I was rockin' in the '80's in my baggy trousers and bright red braces! Anyone interested in this lovely Ibby Roadster? Can do every tone from Stingray through to P-bass, all for buttons.
7. My 1981 Ibanez Roadster RS-924 BS is looking for a new home. I have had it from new, and only gigged with it from '82 to '84. It has had only home use since then and is in pretty good nick for its age. A few bangs and knocks but nothing serious. The frets and maple fretboard are great. It is a lovely thing to play, and great tones available. It is quite heavy though, but this gives it great sustain and resonance. I replaced the two active EQ knobs because one got broken, I still have the two originals though and they are usable, but one has a broken segment. I have been using Loxx strap locks, and I would recommend the next user to do the same. I do have the original strap buttons and screws however. When I bought it, the dealer had installed the thumb rest, which I think came as part of the case candy, although I did not buy it with a hard case (I had just finished uni!). I have removed the thumb rest, leaving two holes which you can see. But I do still have the rest and two screws if you want to reinstall it. But to be honest, it does rather get in the way unless you like to use it. The action is fantastic; the guitar was recently cleaned, serviced and set up by a luthier. It plays very well, and the all-original electronics are perfect. The 9V battery lasts forever. It is currently fitted with Chromes which I like to use, but I would also like to keep. Depends! As I said, I do not have a hard case, but for a cost consideration I can pack and send in a newish gig bag with suitable packing if required. I am located in Gloucestershire. STILL AVAILABLE: OPEN TO REASONABLE OFFERS https://www.youtube....d&v=7mMoeWkDhqA
8. Nothing worse than a sudden organ swell in the middle of a ripping solo...........
9. In the end I bought a pair of pickups from Etienne Lauzon in Toronto. I sent him the dimensions of the P's and he made them to order, to his own 'P-strat' design. The J is twin coil. And the price was less than I would expect to pay for a set of 'boutique' pups. The tone is fantastic. P-bass on steroids, and the J just cuts in a lovely tone. I had basschatter KiOgon make me a new loom for it with new pots etc, and the result is outstanding. Fitted with Chromes it gives me everything I need. A great bespoke bass for around £250 all in!
10. Ordered a PJ set of mini pots with stacked tone control. John helped to specify what I needed according to what I wanted to get out of my bass and obtain the tone I want, and the results are astonishing. With quality pickups (from Etienne Lauzon in Toronto) and John's quality pots and loom I have tailored a low cost bass into my own dream instrument. The bass now sounds wonderful, thanks John!
11. I have a decently-made PJ but it has hopeless Chinese pickups fitted, and I want to change them out for good but inexpensive replacements. There does not seem to be much choice, that I can find. I know Aguilar and EMG make them, but I cannot afford them. I am looking for passive, vintage sounding pups, not top-of-the-line. Does anyone have any good ideas? I think my P pickups may be a slightly odd configuration, not sure if this has a bearing on matters. Here is a photo of the existing pups.
