I saw a Britpop band called Dodgy use one live years ago. The singer/bassplayer used to play the acoustic parts of some songs on a guitar attached to a stand at waist height, presumably so he didn't have to faff around with taking his bass off to swap over for those parts.

There was the Precision Lyte released in the 1990s. They are lighter (I think they might have been chambered) but they're also quite a long way from a traditional P bass. The Lyte is a PJ with a skinny neck. I'm also pretty sure they had an active tone circuit.

When I read the thread title I assumed something interesting was happening in Nottingham.

Kurt Cobain. I was only about 20 and found out through Ceefax of all things.

I was thinking they wouldn't be cheap but I was a bit taken aback at just how not cheap they actually are.

They look pretty unique and I was vaguley interested until they started talking about gold plating, sterling silver and '19 hours on the CNC machine'. I'm guessing these aren't going to be MiM prices.

After 25 odd years of using purple Dunlop Tortex picks on guitar, last year I started using these instead. https://www.davapick.com/ Certainly the grippiest picks I've ever found. I've not tried them on bass but I can't see why there would be a problem.

I generally really like '51 style basses , from Harley Bentons to Fender Dusty Hill Custom Shop models. That one just looks a bit wrong to me.

My local Co Op plays music at a level that's barely audible unless you're standing in a particular spot in the queue, directly in front of the speaker. Take a couple of steps forwards or backwards and the volume fades to almost subliminal levels again. I'm not really sure what the point is.

Depends on the band. The Ramones would probably have done close to 20 songs live in 45 minutes, Led Zep at their most bloated maybe 3 or 4 (less if one of them was the interminable 20 minute + live version of 'Dazed and Confused'.)

Maybe by 'inevitable and justifiable' they mean 'traditional '. Placing a trumpeter directly behind the guys head does seem to show a complete indifference to the musician's welfare though. I wonder if the ROH conductor or musical director would volunteer to have a trumpet played full blast into their ears at point blank range? Reading the article it does look there might be implications beyond the orchestra pit for all musicians playing live.

I wouldn't be amazed if he wasn't that well known to anyone under 30 these days. I'm in my forties and when I was a kid Sting had left the Police and was doing his solo thing which was generally lumped in with the likes of Phil Collins and and Simply Red as being a bit naff in an AOR sort of way. That's not an opinion I shared, but I was definitely in the minority. There's probably at least a generation of young adults by now who's parents never listened to Sting or the Police and so have never really had their work brought to their attention.

A couple of years ago I emailed them about some missing screws on a bridge I ordered from them. They answered within a couple hours and the screws arrived the next day.

I've benefited a lot from some of Mark's videos. I think what he does is slightly different to Scott in that Talking Bass puts some full length lessons and courses free on YouTube. Scott's free YouTube output tends to more about a couple hints and tips about playing. If you want a full lesson from him you have to sign up.

When I bought my fretless Sire V7, once I'd decided to buy a Sire, I chose that specific model purely based on aesthetics. I like natural finished basses and the Maple board is a bit unusual on a fretless. The actual type of wood used in the construction wasn't something I thought about at all.

I was lucky enough to see Kamasi and the band live on the Epic tour. It was one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Patrice Quinn's voice is astonishing. I'm almost certainly going to see them again when they play Birmingham in May even though the tickets are a bit steep this time around.

Keef uses that guitar tuned in open G and plays it without a low e string. Still doesn't explain the lack of wear under the A or what he's been doing to cause that much damage to the end of the fretboard after the 22nd fret. Edit:It's also slightly odd that the 'reproduction' has 22 frets. The original has the usual 21.
