  1. I'm really enjoying the album. I've not listened to much Latin Jazz, but there's a fair bit more funk on some of the tracks than I was expecting.
  2. I enjoyed that cheers. I've just found an album 'Ultima Noticia' on Amazon music, which I've now added to my library. I'll give it a listen tomorrow.
  3. 'The Fabulous Ventures' by the Ventures First impressions: It's a bit likeThe Shadows on steroids.
  4. Maybe it's a protoype and he hasn't decided on a finish yet?
  5. I use both scratchplate and pickguard, just to confuse myself. I always say 'pick' though, 'plectrum' just sounds a bit grand for a small plastic triangle.
  6. Would he be the first bass player to get an official Music Man signature model?
  7. I support the idea in theory, but I'm likely to be here anyway, unless I'm otherwise engaged doing extensive online research on whatever I happen to have GAS for this time next week.
  8. I've got to start checking the Jam House website more regularly. It's a great music venue, if I'd have known about this I would have been there.
  9. It's been posted before, but both Chas and Dave played on this ...which was later sampled by Dr Dre for Eminem's breakthrough single 'My Name Is'. So, in conclusion, RIP Chas Hodges, international hip hop superstar.
  10. No idea what that is, but I like it.
  11. I like the new aesthetic a lot. The vintage reliced body with the hi tech neck give it a sort of steampunk vibe. I'm sure it sounds and plays fantastically well too.
  12. I believe there's an obscure law that states that there must be a former member of the SAS stationed in every pub in Britain at all times.
  13. He makes some valid points about every generation predictably denigrating the music produced by the next. But the stuff about your musical tastes being set when you're a teenager is complete BS. In my teens I was listening pretty much exclusively to heavy metal bands like Maiden, Megadeth and Anthrax. I stopped listening to that stuff in my early twenties. It would never occur to me to put one of their albums on these days. Now I mainly listen to to soul, funk and jazz stuff that I would have turned off if it had come on the radio when when I was kid. I'd guess most people are the same, eventually we get bored of the same old, same old and move on to something else.
  14. Tuba Hip-Hop Reggae Jazz.
  15. Result.
  16. There's something a bit odd about that clip. There's a quite a lot of it where what the guitarist and bass player appear to be playing doesn't seem to be the same thing that's coming out of the PA. And what's all that strumming the strings halfway up the neck about?
  17. A bit more Jamiroquai. Jamiroquai's first album was actually a bit of a turning point in my musical tastes. Before that I was mainly listening to rock and metal, this helped me to realise that there was so much more out there. Plus the bass was phenomenal.
  18. This always gets mentioned whenever this question is asked. Probably because it's perfect.
  19. That was my first thought, but the strings look too thick? I saw an Ed Friedland review of the 3 pickup Music Man Big Al and that came across as a really versatile bass. I have to say that I prefer the looks of this one.
  20. I downloaded a 70 track Sun Ra 'box set' a while ago. That covers a pretty big spectrum just on it's own. Some of it is pretty straightforwards other bits are absolutely bonkers and quite a lot of it falls into the mysterious category of 'music I'm not sure I actually like, but find fascinating to listen to anyway'.
  21. Apologies if it's already been posted but this just came on as I was watching Better Call Saul.
  22. Graphite neck? I think Flea would approve.
  23. Jazz is a broad church. I like the funky stuff and the smaller ensembles where you can clearly hear every instrument. The Glenn Miller style big band stuff leaves me cold.
  24. If you post a positive review I can imagine the people at Revelation being somewhat puzzled by a sudden spike in sales.
  25. This is the second time in the last few days that an instrument has broken through my strong aversion to sunburst finishes and tortoiseshell pickguards. I'm starting to wonder if I'm unwell..
