  1. A bit outside the budget but this might be ok. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fender-squier-classic-vibe-telecaster-can-post-/1287139602 I've not tried a Harley Benton model but telecasters are quite hard to get wrong, the only problem you may find with the cheaper models is that the pickup noise might be quite loud. All proper (2 single coil) teles hum, my Baja Tele hums, but it tends to be a bit louder on cheaper guitars.
  2. Bankruptcy in the US doesn't necessarily mean the end of the line. If Gibson file for Chapter 11 they'll be protected from their creditors while they restructure the business, which could include selling off some of their subsidiaries and intellectual property rights from companies which they've acquired and ultimately wound up. It also allows them to seek new finance. Even if restructuring fails and no new finance is available then the creditors have the option of acquiring the company and it's assets in lieu of the debt. The chances are in that scenario the debtors would attempt to sell the Gibson brand and production facilities to a third party who could then acquire them without taking on the current debt. Even if Gibson has to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which basically means the complete liquidation of all assets, the brand and production facilities would still likely be sold as part of that process. Gibson may be doomed in it's current form but I'd put money on the brand and the classic designs being in production, one way or another, for a very long time to come.

    Ash or Alder

Not being a believer in tone woodsl I went for Ash because I like the grain. Although if your'e going for a solid colour I'd probably go with whichever is lightest.
  4. I use lemon oil on my rosewood boards if I think that they're looking a bit dry ,maybe once a year. I also clean and polish my natural finished guitars and basses with Dunlop 65 if they're looking a bit grubby. For the solid colour finishes I just use a damp cloth.
  5. I've got a 2016 Deluxe Special in white/rosewood. I love it to bits, it's pretty much all I play these days. I've not tried the US Elite, I'm guessing it has upgraded pickups and preamp, but other than that I have trouble thinking what improvements they could make for it to be £1000 better. I've got the MIM Deluxe PJ and two Mexi Telecasters, all three of them are superb instruments.
  6. Cricket was intentionally designed to be overly long and intricate and difficult for outsiders to understand, in order to deter the rest of world from wanting to beat us at it. That plan didn't quite work out.
  7. Would it be any cheaper if you had tried to order it through a dealer? If it came as part of a bulk order the shipping would be reduced at the very least.
  8. Of course it might help if I occasionally (ever) cleaned or changed the screen protector.
  9. It only really seems to affect the fingertips of my two plucking fingers, but it has happened to me, some advices seem more prone to it than others.
  10. He's in a great deal of pain. A couple of seconds after that picture taken the immense weight snapped his spine.
  11. Not really a fail, but I've stopped going into my most local music shop even if I happen to be walking past the door because it's boring. Unless you happen to have an unusual fetish for Eiphone Tobies or bottom of the range Ibanez's, the bass section is boring. Unless you want to pay over the odds for a MIM Fender, the guitar section is boring. They must sell a lot of keyboards, brass instruments and kazoos to stay afloat.
  12. I only play for people if they agree to dance for me.
  13. Since before the internet I've always pronounced Ibanez as i ban ez I've since found out that company themselves pronounce it as eye ban ez. I think the company is wrong.
  14. Doesn't matter what you're making. I'd follow the thread if you were building a sideboard.
  15. It's not so much the stories of his experience with various artists that makes me think he may be losing it, but his story about dating Ivanka Trump and his claims about the Kennedy assassination seem a bit far fetched.
  16. I'm a firm believer that almost anything can be played if you slow it down enough then gradually work back up to full speed. There are exceptions, where the part is played using a technique like double thumbing, which I currently struggle with, but I reckon with most stuff I usually get there in the end.
  17. My first bass was a black Axe ordered off the back of an issue of Metal Hammer for Christmas one year. It wasn't terrible. The J Pickup didn't really do anything and the action was a bit on the high side and aged 14 in the pre internet age I didn't really know how to adjust anything. I ended up defretting it with a pair of pliers after I upgraded to a Washburn Status.
  18. I don't think he's grumpy, I think he's probably quite seriously ill.
