I named myself after my cat who is named after a late Roman Republic senator. It was a spur of the moment thing, I needed something I could remember. I didn't think I'd end up being such a frequent visitor to this site. I never use my real name on the internet, it makes it that much harder for the angry mob to track me down.
Wow! This is an interesting read. Personally after listening to them i thought the Beatles were overrated. Admittedly i was only a little boy when John Lennon was shot so missed all the hype and their rise in popularity but i've listened to some of their songs and they never really did anything for me.
Better hope Blue's not reading this thread. I know what you mean though, I think it's an age thing. I'm only 42 so to me Beatlemania is just a few black and white clips of a band rendered barely audible by screaming fans. My theory is that the Beatles were so influential that to anyone who wasn't there at the time they just don't sound that innovative. Their sound and song writing structure have been copied so much since that the original material loses much of it's impact with younger generations. I certainly wouldn't describe them as over rated though. They changed the direction of popular music, it just gets harder to hear that the further we move from the event.
KiOgon
That's the man. Not only are they a quality item, but the solderless connectors he uses mean that a complete idiot can fit them. I speak from experience.
Here's an interesting challenge - can anyone name a band that all of basschat will agree are NOT overrated? S.P.
I'd suggest Tower of Power and also Snarky Puppy. Even if ypu don't like the music, the level of musicianship is undeniable.

Pretty much every band I've felt strongly enough about to hate I've come around to liking, or at least apreciating, in the end. On the other hand, indifference lasts for ever.
Are these the real deal? Price seems too good to be true!
If they're not real, I can't tell the difference.
Just checking, these are standard scale?
Yep, 34"scale.

Can't get enough of this - Sam Wilkes - KNOWER
I recommend listening to a tune called Weird Part of the Night by Louis Cole, it combines everything that's great about Knower. There's jazz, funk, 80's / Prince, 90s techno and straight up pop music influences in there, all squished up and injected full of weirdness and humour. I'm on a phone so I can't post it but it's a tune.
This one? http://youtu.be/glgPZmSwC4M I think I like it, but I may just be dazzled by the trousers/dance moves combination. -
I actually dislike everything I've heard from them previously.
Apparently it's only quite recently that they've started touring with a live band and that's funked things up quite a bit. The album version of 'overtime' is a lot more house/elctro than jazz/funk. (I'm well out of my depth assigning genres to this electronic stuff). -

Just finished listening to the latest album. They record as an electronic duo and the jazz influence is much less pronounced. The closest camparison I can come up with is LCD Sound System. Still very good though. -
http://youtu.be/GnEmD17kYsE Sam is an absolute beast and this is so so good it makes me want to weep.
Funnily enough a friend of mine showed me this exact clip last Saturday. I was blown away. It reminds of Vulfpeck and some of their jam videos, but with a modern dance edge to the jazz funk. -
If you don't know the story behind 'Relax' it's worth looking up, it has to be up there with the longest, most complex recordings ever made. These days I suspect that Relax and possibly the whole album would be credited to 'Trevor Horn featuring Holly Johnson'. Edit. Nice clip about making Pleasuredome here. http://youtu.be/jDhiYdFjFVU Someone posted a much longer interview with Trevor Horn on here a while ago where he goes into a lot more detail, but I can't find that one.

That's a stunner. It's also triggered my intermittent 'You should buy yourself that spikey bass you wanted when to were 14' GAS.

Mine arrived. Everything seems to be in order. Slightly relieved that everything seems to have been above board.

My cats the opposite. The moment I look at a stringed instrument it leaves the room. Everyone's a critic...
Thanks for the heads up - thats me £90 worse off now :-)
If it turns out there's some sort of problem or mistake with these I'm going to get lynched, aren't I?

Hope everyone can see these and they're not just on offer to me https://www.amazon.co.uk/DR-Beam-Medium-Guitar-Strings/dp/B0009FJ1NS Even with postage they're at least a tenner cheaper than average.

Geezer Butler used to live a couple of doors down from one of my secondary school friends in Lapworth, a village/town a few miles from Birmingham. I say 'lived', I'm not sure he spent much time there. I never saw him, neither did my mate or his parents, but he definitely owned the house.

Beautiful The sound of a Ray with the look and feel of a Jazz? I don't see how you can really go wrong. I've been toying with the idea of asking Maruscyk to do something similar for me.

Why Do Some People On BC Seem To Have No Sense Of Humor
Cato replied to Thunderbird's topic in General Discussion

Opinions/advice on our bands confederate flags please
Cato replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
As others have said tne context of the flag has changed. It probably isn't seen as a racist symbol over here yet, but the recent media focus on far right groups in the US probably means that it inevitably will be. -
Bloody hell, those guys at TB take things seriously
According to Talkbass terms & conditions of use all contributors must take themselves and everything else completely seriously at all times, a sense of humour will earn a reprimand and persistent 'larking about' will get you banned. Isn't that why we're all here? -
Actually, it's quite neat... There once was a man from Nantucket Who kept all his cash in a bucket. But his daughter, named Nan, Ran away with a man And as for the bucket, Nantucket
I'm strangely disappointed.
