Trujillo is so much more than just a metal bassist. He's a fully rounded musician who can ans has played the full gamut of styles from Jazz the full blown funk. To be honest I've always thought his talents are a little bit wasted in Metallica, although I'm sure Trujillo himself, and his paycheck, would disagree with me on that one.

After I defretted my Axe bass with the aid of a screw driver it had an action of around 1cm at the 12th (former) fret, even after I lowered the saddles to the point they were touching the bridge plate. In my defense I was about 17 at the time and hadn't considered the possible consequences of my spontaneous bout of luthiery.

I'm actually a bit anti signature instruments. If I do end up buying a fretless p7 or v7 I'll be quite tempted to file his name off. It's not that I don't like Marcus, as far as I'm concerned he's a complete genius, I'm just not comfortable with the idea of anyone thinking I'm trying to be him or copy his style, which of course I couldn't do in a million years anyway.

Without the Marcus Miller endorsement Sire would just be another Far East manufacturer making budget/mid range Fender clones. As it is the impact and traction they've gained in the global market in a very short period of time is pretty jaw dropping for a new player in the manufacturing market.
Cheers for the heads up, never heard of this series. Do you know if the P pickup is in the same place as on a real P?
They've only just been released. I'm seriously thinking about getting a P7 fretless in December/January, so I'll be able to let you know then.

Take a punt on one of the new Sire P7s? Available in an astonishing number of finishes from Thomman. https://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=Sire+p7

I saw Placebo 3 years ago at the Birmingham Academy. That was the gig that triggered my decsision, after 3 days of ear ringing, to start wearing earplugs for live music.

I think they've only just come into stock in Europe in the last week, although they've been available in the US for a couple of months. There are at least 2 youtube reviews I've seen, both of which were very positive. I'm seriously thinking about buying a fretless P7 in the next couple of months, assuming they don't sell out as fast as the V7s did when Thomman got their first batch in.

Woodbrass.com - anyone have any feedback on them?

Just had a quick browse. They've got some interesting stuff. -
To be fair, a good number of the posts on that thread have lost their pictures, probably since Photobucket changed their terms and conditions, so a new thread is no bad thing.
-
I've fancied one of these ever since I saw a review in'Guitarist' magazine in the 90s. https://www.music-man.com/instruments/guitars/silhouette-bass Not exactly cheap though.

Opinions on this pick guard please, just out of curiosity.
And then only on a white, cream, vintage white or sunburst bass... and possibly Shoreline or Firemist Gold under certain circumstances. Tort should never be seen on a blue, black, green, purple or red bass. With the possible exception of Fiesta Red, but only if its VERY faded. Edit. IMHO, of course.
There's a whole other thread to be had on illogical aesthetic preferences. Personally I really don't like a sunburst finish on a Precision or Jazz, but I think it suits a Stratocaster perfectly. I couldn't even begin to explain why.... Anyway, enough thread derailment. -

Tortoiseshell is a bit Marmite, to employ an old cliché. Personally, I've never seen a bass or guitar that I thought it looked good on. Which, I'm pretty sure, makes any opinion I may have on this particular combination entirely invalid. Sorry for posting. Carry on. Edit, Having said that I think black and mint, or an even darker shade of green always looks smart. -
A grand seems like a lot of money for a bass CNCed in the far east, although I noticed the other day that the top end Sire Marcus Miller's are heading in that direction. Maybe it's just a sign of the times, but a couple of years ago you could get a part custom built Maruscyck for that kind of cash.

Electro shock therapy. Every time he loses his rhythm hit him with the cattle prod. He'll soon learn.
Have you seen those Scottish ones with the ginger hair sewn in like Russ Abbott wore?
You mean the ones Scotland fans used to wear to World Cup matches? No, I've not seen anyone wear one of those for years...
I had no idea silk colour bothered people.
It doesn't bother me as such, but, thinking about itfor the first time, I think I also prefer strings with no silks.

Sounds like you know pretty much exactly what you want, but are just unsure which brand to go with. Bass Direct have a pretty impressive selection. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Preamps_onboard.html Try dropping them an email to see if they've got any suggestions. If I was upgrading I'd probably go for the Aguilar OBP3,because I love their amps, they also do an external preamp/DI stomp box based on the same tech. I don't think it comes with an active/passive switch but if you get a tech to install it, they should be able to sort that out for you

Help me Basschat people, you're my only hope...

Perhaps you're looking at the wrong end of the chain? It might be worth trying out a few amps/cabs/combos with your current bass if you can, maybe you can find a sound you like more. -
That's the biggest saxophone I've seen in my life. Nice vid though.
Sounds to me like there's an interesting story behind that if you're up for sharing in terms of getting you out of a rut, if you're up for sharing.
I think it's a pretty common story. I'd reached a plateau in my progress, I just found myself playing the same old stuff and I was getting frustrated with my lack of progress. Learning to slap opened up a different, more percussive mind set which actually crossed over in to all the other areas of my playing and refired my enthusiasm for the instrument.

Love a bit of slap. Learning how to play it really helped me get out of the rut I was in at the time as well.

Godin A5 Ultra fretless - anyone got one? Anyone tried one?
Cato replied to alyctes's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a fretted one, I expect this will go up in price nearer the cut! It was substantially made and weighs just under around 10.5 pounds. Not sure it has a metal sub-frame mind?
I think I probably confused it withe Godin Acousticaster which apparently has internal metal tines. http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guitars/godin-acousticaster-40th-anniversary-koa-597549 -
I tried one at Bassgear a few years back and found it surprisingly heavy, considering it is a thinline electro-acoustic.
I seem to remember a magazine review from the 90s that said that they had some sort of metal lattice inside the body to improve resonance, that might account for the weight? Although I might have dreamt that.
