Another new Shergold Bass, 34" scale this time.

Daft name for what is actually quite an interesting looking and , to me, quirkily attractive instrument.

I suspect most of these things start out as calculated publicity stunts, though these two gentlemen seem to have got more than a little carried away.

When I saw the headline yesterday I assumed the lawsuit would be over the contents of Lemar's 'diss track' in particular calling Drake a paedophile. I was quite suprised to find out it that it's alleged chart rigging that's offended the Drake camp.

I mainly swap between an active PJ and and a passive Jazz. These days I rarely touch the controls on either except to make sure they're set where I want them. If I did want to experiment with diferent tones then the active PJ does cover a lot of ground.

I wouldn't be suprised if some more purple ones appear. I've recently seen purple sparkle flying vees, explorers and SGs turning up on various UK retail sites, so it looks like Epiphone have a purple sparkle production line going at the moment.

I believe some of them are 32" scale and I think there may have been a short scale variant at some point as well as some 'standard' 34" models? Other than that I'm very much of the school of thought that two solid body basses that have the same pickup type in the same position will always sound very similar regardless of other differences such as body shape, wood type etc.

The equivalent skinny stringers seem to be highly regarded for the price bracket,as a lover of all things tele shaped I've been tempted myself, purely based on the aesthetic.

I was a bit suprised at how much they've gone up. I used to get them for around £25 on Amazon, but that seller disappeared a couple of years ago. There are some on Amazon at the moment for less than £30 but I've heard so many stories about people getting fake strings from Amazon that I'd rather trust an actual guitar shop.

I just told alexa to play Quincy Jones. First track up was this Having previously only known it from the Austen Powers films I had no idea it was a Quincy Jones composition. The man clearly had a long and diverse career.

Mine arrived earlier. Top tip for anyone expecting a Theremin, make sure you've got 6xAA charged up batteries on hand. I've just spent the last couple of hours charging batteries. Only just had a fairly quick go, I had to resort to the instructions to get the aerial working and I'm sure I could do a better initial set up once I'm a bit more familiar with the instrument, but so far it's a lot of fun. Using the slider and the button it's pretty easy to get a simple tune or bassline out of it. Using the aerial is a lot more tricky, but it's early days yet.

I got a notification yesterday to say mine had shipped , so fingers crossed, it might turn up today.

The inward curve on the bottom of the bass is ringing some bells, but, for want of a better word, that 'ledge' carved into the side is really distinctive but doesn't ring any bells at all. Not sure I've ever seen a bass that has that before.

Love to be proven wrong but I'm 90% sure the announcement is about the already leaked next iteration of the Ultra range. The fact that the Meteora features in both the leaks and in silhouette in the promotional material for the new launch is the clincher.

That's beyond grim, even for the 80s.

Short version: They like the Sire as much and in some ways more than the Ray34.

I've noticed that the £1k+ Epiphone skinny stringers often tend to turn up in seasonal sales at places like Andertons with significant discounts. Might be worth waiting 6-12 months and see what the G3 is going for then.

When I first started out in the early 90s there were a couple of times in my first band where we were offered support slots with older, more estaished local bands only to be told after we turned up on the night and starting setting up that we owed them £20 for 'PA hire'. We knew we weren't going to get any kind of fee for the night but that was a bit of a kick in the teeth. Left a bad taste in the mouth just because of the way it was sprung on us on the night, but not knowing any better, we paid up.

Looks the business, not sure if it's an illusion caused by the colour scheme but the headstock looks a little less 'square' than the one on my mk 1 V7 fretless and maybe a touch smaller?

A few years ago I was thinking about getting the Hagstrom Phantomen skinny stringer this is based on. Aesthetically I think it's a great design, somewhere between and RD Artist and an Explorer, but distinctive enough to be it's own thing.

There's fretless models on Andertons but no time scale for when they might arrive. I have to say I'm not sure I can think of another manufacturer that does fretless versions of , I think, all their models the way Sire does.
