1.
Mannnn that sonic grey Jazz really is one of the nicest looking instruments I've ever seen. Some contrast to the worst hairstyle I've ever seen...
The hair is supposed to be a bass clef, though I thought she'd stopped wearing it like that some time ago in favour of something more conventional? Maybe she's decided it's her unique trademark?
  2. OK I've just double checked and I think I was wrong about the name being bought out. It also appears that some of their products are still made in the UK whilst others are designed here and built in China.
  3.
I always thought Laney was an affordable budget line amp. Did they ever have a reputation as a high end performance bass amp? Blue
Don't know about bass amps but for a while, in the 70s their valve guitar amps were rivals to Marshall. But I think the name was bought out and production moved out of the UK many years ago.
  4. In the last year I've noticed a lot more bands selling vinyl on their merch stands at gigs. I think the demand is expanding beyond the old guy/nostalgia/audio snob market.
  5. He was a lot calmer before his mum died suddenly a few years ago. It's only since then that he's gone completely bonkers.
  6. Got to be the Tickled Trout.
  7.
I agree about the 60s and 70s bit however, I was kind of referring to the fairly well documented fact that he wrote no music and possibly provided a few lyrics though in fairness, the term "icon" doesn't dictate that you have to create, simply be, an icon.
Most of Elvis' songs were written by other people, most of Cliff's too. I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but , unfortunately, sometimes it's charisma and marketing that make the big records big.
  8.
"And when did you last see ANYONE playing Cantaloupe Island on a BC Rich?"
'So you don't think Precisions sit perfectly in the mix?'
  9. I'm not a huge fan of Mr Williams, but in his defence he won a shed load of Brit awards and has had a very successful career, with a chart record, both singles and albums, that's not been matched by many. Not every celebrated 'musician' (and I use the year loosely) can come from the 60s and 70s, things have to move on. No matter how much we may disapprove.
  10. Kid at my secondary school had one of these in a much darker brown stain, I don't remember the grain being as nice as yours though. It was a lovely sounding/playing bass, I was quite jealous of it at the time.
  11.
It's annoying that there seems to be nothing on the fender website about these. Or am I not looking right? P.s. The sonic grey jazz is a thing of beauty
I'm not at all impressed with new Fender website in general and I'm fairly sure there are a few models from the current range either not listed or at least not listed where they can easily be found.
  12. I'm very pleased with my Squier VM 70s Jazz. It was a good bass to start with, but after the addition of some Aguilar 70s pickups and a Ki0gon loom, it's really rather special.
  13. Of course, sometimes there is no room for doubt.. http://youtu.be/XAJ62IG3gBo
  14. The vocal on this one sounds ever so slightly off pitch to me. http://youtu.be/tXtATeQ7GKg I can't decide whether it actually is or whether I just don't like her voice. I have the same thing with just about every Christina Aguilera track I've heard, when she goes for the big, powerful note she just sounds out to me.
  15.
...and I cannot lie...etc. Sorry. Extra coat, please, it's very cold out.
I came within an inch of posting that. I can't even find a decent cover version on YouTube to enlighten those unfamiliar with the song. Now dead flats, carry on...
  16. Love the gold Stingray, although the rocketing prices means my chances of ever owning a brand new ray are rapidly dwindling.
  17.
That's probably not going to happen 😁 Blue
I'd actually turn up to one of your gigs just to see the invisible bear moves.
  18.
Ah, net worth of only 245m....
Interestingly, according to the article, none of that seems to be related to music. He's a very shrewd business man.
  19.
I thought that was Nick Mason.
Definitely Richard Wright. Waters decided he wasn't pulling his weight so sacked him from the band, then reemployed him on a wage as a session musician. Ironically this resulted in Wright being the only band member who didn't end up taking a fairly hefty financial hit after the ruinously expensive Wall tour.
  20.
Thanks. Green was the first one I bought. No love for Automatic...? I think it's brilliant.
I loved Automatic for the People. I spent quite a lot of time as a student listening to 'Try not to breathe' whilst feeling moody and misunderstood.
  21. Or you could just get one of these https://www.gak.co.uk/en/blackstar-id-core-stereo-10-v2-combo-silver/903914?gclid=CjwKEAiAjvrBBRDxm_nRusW3q1QSJAAzRI1tfJBXvmPKM1QM6I8-KzglEzCNO0cwX-cs1c1MMANauRoC9q7w_wcB
  22. Jagger is a notoriously tight bastard. He allegedly refused to give writing credits to Jones and Wyman for several of the Stones biggest hits and more recently tried to claim that his marriage to Jerry Hall was never legitimate under UK law, in order to try to dodge paying her any alimony. As others have said it was the 90s before Ron Wood was made an official member of the Stones.

    Slap
In my experience it's very much a 2 handed technique where the muting or complete deadening of notes is just as important as slapped or plucked note. It's more like drumming on the fretboard than anything else and requires a lot more subtlety than you'd think (especially after watching Louis Johnson!).
This was definitely my epiphany. The rhythms you create with the ghost notes and left hand slaps are the absolute key to a decent slap technique.

I found those Scott Whitley tutorials very useful too, although 'bassics' is pushing it for some of the later lessons. That run he does at the end of the theme tune took me somewhere between 10 and 15 hours to get down properly, all to play what is a 2 second section of music. This series is where I started. http://youtu.be/tGilCW0_Jf0

    Slap
I had to turn down a suggestion of Can't Stop which got me thinking. I think the reason I haven't perservered is because it does't bother me that much, but its a bitch having to say "sorry I cant play it"!
Just had a look at it, it might not be a bad place to start learning, no real acrobatics or lightning fast machine gun slaps or hammer on/pull offs. http://youtu.be/HQxMt2FUAN4 Start as slow as you need, speed will come.
