TBH 2nd hand is often the best way to go especially if you are new to the instrument. That way you can sell something on making little or no loss until you find your ideal instrument. The For Sale section in this forum is the perfect place to look and they are often in better condition than what many shops sell as brand new. In fact I would guess that the majority of forum members have 2nd hand instruments in their collection. It makes more sense financially. Many are traded between members and if you try to rip someone off you tend to regret it as a previous member found out to his cost.

This is the best by far. Can anyone beat it?
TBH Peter there are several knowledgeable guys high up on the 'W' forum whether they are on the pay-role or not I don't know. re. who Warwick should employ - There-in is the problem, when the man pays your wages you sing what the man wants to hear; I have a lot of experience with Warwicks and I know the pros and cons of their basses, I know the range reasonably well and I can tell a duffer at 20 paces (OK that's a bit poetic ) and with impunity I'll discuss my views re. Wick jack-sockets or the occasional foible with truss-rod direction etc. but I'm not sure it's what they'd want to hear what I had to say. I'll happily give advice about Warwicks (especially the earlier models, I'll be the first to admit I have little interest in 'some' of the stuff Warwick ave produced over the years) on any forum... whether people want to hear what someone like me has to say is another matter. I gave that eBay guy advice re. what his bass is and it's value (bearing in mind the damage) but sometimes the truth hurts. At the end of the day a bass is worth what someone will pay, I have a couple of basses up for sale and I know what they are; to some people the relative values may be high but I know when something is worth £600 or £1600 regardless of whether it is my bass or not.
Is it possible in that case then that the truss rod cover is not original? I don't know enough about Warwicks to be sure enough about details like that... although my 92 Streamer is most definitely NOT a bolt-on.

Well I contacted Zander about the site suggesting that any feedback from him would be welcome as it dividing opinion on here. This was his reply; "wow, that was pretty intense. thanks for the link! i'm happy to answer anyone's questions via youtube's messaging system, but don't know if i could handle being part of that debate (and don't know if i should be, either). therefore, please feel free to copy and paste this message into the chat if you want to... : ) --- first of all, thanks to everyone who has said nice things about my compositions and arrangements. to be honest, i'm honoured that so many people are debating my music/what the bass can do. personally, i play the sort of music that i play because i enjoy it. that's what it comes down to: it makes me happy. people don't have to like it if they don't want to - that's fine with me. i also don't mind if people call it a bass or a guitar. whatever you want to call it, it's my chosen instrument. i have a lot of fun exploring different techniques on the bass and trying out new styles. it's exciting, challenging and humbling to me. piccolo strings' altered tuning capabilities allow me a massive pitch range, which makes for lots of interesting possibilities. as the actual instrument is a long-scale bass (no debating that), it creates a warmer sound than a guitar - this suits me more. like i mentioned earlier, other bass players of course don't have to like what i'm doing. but i do feel, philosophically speaking, that perhaps you shouldn't place limits on creativity? in any event, the bass is a very young instrument and i feel excited to be playing it during this time in its development. thanks, zander" I agree. The bass is a young instrument and if people weren't prepared to push the boundaries there would be no 5 or 6 string basses, or worse!

Hi, I've got a couple of tracks tabbed out if you're interested. ' Baggy Trousers' and something else... could be 'Embarrassment'. I'm just coming to the end of a 12hr night shift so my brains are a little fried.

Jeez, didn't think I'd be opening such a can of worms.

I found some videos on YT today which are amazing and I'm just wondering if anyone knows him as profile states that he is UK based. He plays a Zon bass with piccolo strings so he can play more easily in higher registers. It's very impressive. If he's already a member then make yourself known ;0) Here's a link http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2_k2Ag7Qiyk&...re=channel_page Very good use of a loop pedal too! There was a topic on solo bass which I can't find. This guy is the perfect exponent of what can be done.
That bass-less track is grerat for rehearsing to. Where did you get it? Do you have any more, a library of those on here would be great? Cheers Chris
Hi Beedster, This was from Guitarist magazine a few years ago. It had a guitar-free and bass-free track as well as the complete track. They ran a series of bass-free tracks for about 12 months back in 2000.

Greetings indeed. Welcome to the friendliest bass site around.
Believe it or not I am related (through marriage) to Geddy Lee. Nancy (nee Young) has the same great grandfather as me. My mum went to visit them and stayed in their house in Toronto a while ago - though she didn't know who Geddy Lee was bless her!
Now there's a claim to fame.

I remember meeting Phil Lynott when I was 9 or 10. He'd sat next to my dad on a flight back from Argentina or somewhere in South America all the way to Manchester and my dad (who is not a rock fan) thought he was a really nice guy. We were all stood together at the baggage carousel when Phil and Scott Gorham came over to chat to my dad. All I remember was this tall guy (Phil) in a black leather suit wearing patent pink winkle picker shoes. I just could not take my eyes off his shoes as they were the most amazing things I'd seen. He was very friendly and I still have the guitar pick he gave me all those years ago. I really had no idea who he was at the time. But now...

Glad I could help.

Hope it works. Cheers

Welcome on board. This really is a friendly place to hang out. There are no such thing as dumb questions. As you're a multi-instrumentalist you are more likely to be fielding questions from us.
Anyone got a good one? Having heard Brother Jones play a cracking version on my 'ray t'other day, I'm itching to give it a go Thanks Chris
I have a bass and bassless backing track for this if you are interested.
Here you go. This is the last one I learn't to play. Sorry I don't smile much in the video but there is a story behind that. For the last 20 years I have only ever played with a plectrum. I gave up bass for around 5 years and when I started up again at the end of 2007, I decided to learn to use my fingers so this is my first ever complete song I have played using fingers. So basically I am concentrating lots. Oh, plus I am playing on a fretless which is also my first song on a fretless. If you want any tips on the song then just ask. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t9nRqi9p8wA&...re=channel_page
I actually came across this video and then saw the comments from other BCers. It's very good. I have a tab for this somewhere. Must dig it out.

I've just shown the photos to my wife and all she said was 'that's a really nice fireplace'. I give up.

I've been a member for some time but find the whole tone of this site much more friendly. Even when we fall out it's usually resolved amicably. I get the feeling if you upset anyone on the other site you'd wake up next to a horses head.

I'll start this off with Pearl Jam's Black. I've dozens of tracks I've torn out of guitar mags over the years and I was looking through them last night while watching Jools Holland (Martha Reeves was bloody awful) all on my tod (I do have friends except my wife's got the lurgy as have just about everyone I know). I came across this track that I haven't heard in years, had a listen on my ipod and loved the bassline. It sounds more complicated than it is and it is at quite a slow pace. I'm slowly tabbing the piece (originally from Guitar World March 1994). In isolation many of the fills are very Jamerson inspired and follow the basic chords outline of E7 A D and C. I'm not a massive grunge fan but good playing is good playing whatever it is accompanying and Jeff Ament's on this is very tasteful. Didn't he play some weird 8 string fretless instrument? Sounds good whatever it was. So what are you all playing right this minute???? Did anyone see my Doors/Casualty soundalike thread? I was a bit beery at the time but now my head has cleared it does sound very similar.

I'm a leftie naturally and remember as a child picking up a guitar and trying to play it the 'wrong' way round. Lack of left handed instruments meant that right handed was the way to go and it has not been a problem at all or at least I don't remember it being a problem. The guitarist Gary Moore is a leftie yet Hendrix played left handed but wrote with his right hand so figure that one out.

Not sure where this guy is sourcing his stuff from but he doesn't want you picking anything up in person which always seems a little odd http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-SB-Series-Elect...A1%7C240%3A1318 That's a bloody long link!

I would recommend learning some classics such as any Beatles stuff. There is a playalong book called something like Play Bass With The Beatles. They are easy enough to learn and within a day you could have a couple of simpler songs in your repertoire. After that I would have a go at Geddy Lee's bass break in Freewill. Coldplay are also easy enough if you like eighth note plodfests.

... and I got his Spector. Nice chap.

I don't know as the video manages to avoid mentioning this. I do quite like the look of the Precision however I think a well played 70s version (a la Beedster) is likely to be a better instrument as I don't know how you can simulate a played in instrument other than by playing it. A lot.
