Sound Control Salford is now owned by PMT and the new sign will be going up shortly. When I was in there the other day it did seem a bit understocked but a lot of stuff was being moved over from the Preston store. The guy I assumed was the manager and the one who let you take your amp (shortish, shaved head, southern accent) seemed very positive. Mind you he has to be. I didn't recognise the few staff in there but I believe a lot of the original SC will be retained. I'm always reluctant to part with cash in that store due to some of the bad experiences I've had there in the past due to pig ignorant staff. I know I can take my business elsewhere but the thing is they do tend to have a good selection of gear and you can haggle to a degree. I did buy a telecaster from them once which had to be sent away to have a new neck fitted. They were reluctant but when the instore tech couldn't adjust the truss rod either he relented and sent it away. Fingers crossed a new owner might bring a new attitude to the store. PS Congrats on finally getting your amp. So now you have an Ampeg and an Ashdown. Choices Choices. Maybe your next one will begin with a 'B'

Absolutely. They seem eager to build up a good rapport with SCs customer base. I don't know where you have to travel from but £600 is serious money in my opinion. My view is that they have purchased SCs stock so SCs assets are now their assets. By paying you have entered into a contract in good faith and goodwill is vital to any company especially in such a volatile market. I'm sure if you are successful it will generate far more than £600 worth of business for PMT from users of this site alone. I think I've read that you've already got an Ampeg setup since you were let down. Whatever, I'm sure you could move the Ashdown on minimising your costs. I'd even be tempted to ask for a refund/credit note should you gas for anything in the future. Let us know how you get on as it may affect where our next purchases come from.

Spent an hour or so in Sound Control/PMT in Salford this afternoon. The main reason I went was because I wanted to know if I could still use some SC vouchers I was bought a couple of months ago. They said they would be happy to honour them and would be honouring any outstanding deals as they had bought up all the SC stock. So that chappie who believes he has lost £600 on his Ashdown may find it worthwhile persuing his amp. The stock is still a little limited but having spoken to the manager of the store it would appear many good things should happen with the company in the next six weeks or so including a big relaunch.

Best forum on the net. Welcome.

Okay after playing around with this idea I've found a way that works. Save each track individually as a midi file and then import the midi file into Garageband. It's a quite impressive result and makes for some decent homemade backing tracks. (I know whoever created the GP or PT tracks in the first place has done all the real donkey work)

Thanks for your replies. I've managed to export to wave files however when I play it there is no sound.

Is there an easy way to convert GP files to MP3? Basically what I want to do is play along to drum tracks using a Tascam bass trainer. I tend to play a lot of Rush tracks and there are some excellent drum tracks in GP that somebody has gone to a lot of trouble to create. Am I asking too much???????

Would a simpler option not be just to use something like a Korg Pandora PX4D? If you go to www.playbassnow.com you can see how MarloweDK connects his bass to his mac using one of these and gets some very impressive results. Just a thought.

I've been bought some SC vouchers for my birthday and as the Salford store id the nearest I'm wondering if they are still valid. Does anybody know?

Things have been a bit quiet on this topic of late. Is there any news?
I dint think there would be another Runrig fan on this forum! Ive met Rory several times along with the band and he has always been very approachable and gives his time freely. Hes a Stingray man if I recall, in Teal Green. Calum is a gent too and Ian is just mad. Anyway, try a 3m aerosol sealant spray. may need several coats. Also, try a clear vinyl self adhesive film, bit like th film you take off a new plate.
I'm not exactly a fan but I did get dragged to a few gigs by an ex-girlfriend and thought they put on a good show. The first time said ex dragged me to see Chris de Burgh (how embarrassing is it to admit to that) and they were the support and pissed all over C de B. I later became quite friendly with Rory's niece purely by chance. Never even knew they were related. I seem to remember he played Jazzes in the late 80s.
Thanks - I'm near Chorley at the moment - I keep escaping back to Manchester though, I miss it!!
So you're not far away then. Watched a load of your vids last night and I'm very impressed as they include many of the tracks in my 'repertoire'. I noticed you seem to use a lot of open strings in your playing whereas I prefer the fretted equivalent. Are open strings the proper approach for motown-type music? I'm working my way through the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown book tabbing out songs as I go.

Welcome to the forum. Great playing I love a lot of that stuff. Whereabouts in this wonderful city are you?

Musicman 3EQ - ANOTHER PRICE DROP - £675 - OUCH!
ednaplate replied to Perry's topic in Basses For Sale
This really hurts to let go but I just cant get used to the wide neck. The bass is mint no scratches vitually no fret wear. The bass has been professionally set-up my Chris at Mcyntyre Guitars www.mcintyreguitars.com Come with Musicman hardcase Collection only as I want to hand it over in it's mint condition. The Transluciant Orange with matching headstock is rare and I have never seen the scratchplate on any other orange Musicman. I'm asking for £850
Does the string spacing in the fourth picture down affect playability at all? -
I also charge mine via USB, but I've got a multi power adaptor that I got from Argos Multi Adaptor I got it for Christmas to power my old multi effects unit. But it goes down to 5 volts and comes with different sized "ends" for different appliances, and it works well for me and I haven't had a problem with it yet....touch wood lol I hope this helps?
I've got the very same for charging mine and it does the job brilliantly.

For what it's worth I know you already have the XT but I believe in it's latest incernation, the X3 Live, there is the facility to use the unit direct to an amp bypassing modelling so you are using your amp plus the units s rather than colouring your own amp tone with the Line 6 models. I've never actually used one but I either picked that titbit up from either the Line 6 website or a YouTube demo.

I'm certainly no expert in Warwicks but reading the reply from Warwick my understanding would be; Pre 87 = JD Bass 88-92 = JD Thumb bass Post 92 = Thumb bass Therefore a 91 would be a JD Thumb as stated although if I'm wrong I've no problem being corrected. No idea about the bridge issue however. Good luck with the sale and now let's all have a group hug.

Beautiful guitar. I've been aware of Warwickhunt (is that the best name ever?) trying to sell this on the forum. It would have made a nice partner for my 92 Streamer and I was tempted had it not been for the fact I'm doing a load of work on my house and my wife would have killed me. A wise purchase at a silly price.

Welcome on board

I'd never heard of Trailer Trash but that does look really good. I used to use a Pedaltrain in my guitar playing days and I can vouch for them being as solid as a rock. You will be unable to break it. Good solid flight case too. It replaced a Warwick powered pedalboard which didn't work and basically fell apart. Not recommended
Mission by Rush - working on this with my Rush tribute at the moment. Hardest bit seems to be getting the transition from the 5/4 bit under the first guitar solo to the marimba/bass unison part really tight (and the tail end of that part is a bit tricky too). Good fun.
Who are your band? I love Rush. They are the band by which all others are judged.

Losing My Religion and So Central Rain by REM. All fairly straightforward stuff and not at all taxing but just sounds nice.
