If you do you'll make your life easier and the soundman's. Unless it's crap, do it. If yours is better offer to share yours instead.

So next logical question - what's the actual difference between MIJ/MIM/MIA Fenders? Or Squiers for that matter? Other than hardware? Is it daft to pay extra for MIA Fender? Or are you just getting a better level of quality control - i.e. chances are that it's going to be made to better tolerances? I'm looking at P bass kits as I fancy building something, which I'd fit with decent hardware. Was trying to work out if a stewmac body and neck would likely result in something of decent quality...

Thank you gents, that's kind of what I thought but good to have it confirmed!

Hi All, Does anyone have strong feelings about whether it's a good/bad/indifferent idea to refit strings you've removed from the bass? I'm tempted to practice fitting shielding and maybe a PU upgrade on my cheapo deko short scale P bass that I bought on a whim and am trying to get my daughter interested in using - as it's brand new, the strings aren't worn at all. Is it seen as a bad thing to remove the strings, tinker and then refit later?

Have you thought about fitting an engine? ;-)

So, say I was interested in buying bits for a DIY precision. Would a solid wood body from a third party be just as good as a 'real'fender? Sounds like so long as it's not blockboard, the answer is "yes" although I guess cosmetically some may be nicer finished thank others?

Often wondered this, also the MIM/MIJ/MIA with Fender, too. I'm considering building a bass from kit parts and would love to know how much difference the body makes - raw bass bodies vary enormously in price and come in all sorts of different woods. Aside from cosmetics, does it make much difference?

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
landwomble replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
There is a small D stamp on both, but the acoustic has a circle about 3mm wide where the shiny top lacquer is missing. It's underneath and nearly invisible... -
Not used it on guitars but I know my car detailing products - I'd suggest Autoglym Super Resin Polish. it's a polish (hence the name!) i.e. mildly abrasive - less so than T-cut - but also contains fillers so that it fills in small scratches as well as polishes out very fine ones. In fact, thinking about it, I'm going to try it on my Jazz and then apply some Meguiar's Powerlock nano-sealant to keep it clean...

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'

OK, so a couple of days in to ownership of my first dekos.. The shorty P bass is ace. It's got a lovely tone, the neck is a nice matte finish that's really fast and slick and it's such a little light thing that it's a pleasure to play. It has a very small ding on the headstock, as if you had accidentally tapped it on something hard whilst playing and scuffed the lacquer. Other than that it's immaculate. Action really nice and low, I raised the E and A string at the bridge a couple of turns and it's perfect. Lovely. Going to teach my daughters bass with it I think. Been sat out in the garden with the 5 string acoustic. Think the missus is coming round to the idea as she was saying how it was nice to hear me play again whilst she was doing a bit of gardening... #middleageshoutout The action as it came was pretty high but a half turn on the truss rod with the supplied allen key and a few hours later it's all good. Never had an acoustic bass before but this is really nice to play - the built in tuner was unexpected but is a nice feature - especially the way it lights up green on correct tuning. The low B is clear and not baggy. Taking a while to get used to acoustic feedback from the amp but I'm impressed. In terms of "decorative use only" it has a tiny circular chip approx 2 mm across on the underside, and a tiny patch on the rear of the guitar where it has a bubble in the lacquer - aside from that and a few rough edges to some frets which I bet at this price point they all have even when new - it's lovely. Very impressed. Fill your boots, gents. -
I like that a lot more than I think I should, for some reason.
When I first read that line, I thought for a minute that you'd written a program to come up with explanations for your wife! That would probably be quite popular on here.
Now there's an idea... Anyway...THEY'RE HEEEEERRREEEEEE! i noticed a parcelforce van drive past me this morning as I walked back from the school run . "Hope that didn't have my parcel in it" I thought - it did, but the lovely man left a card with his mobile on it and said ring for redelivery. He's just dropped them off. They're both immaculate. No marks or scratches or anything that distinguishes them from a normal one. The action is a bit high on the acoustic but it works perfectly. The shorty is ace! A pleasure to play and my first P-bass. Now, need to look up truss rod adjustment - they both came with a cable and a set of allen keys so will get cracking now... -

Is anyone using any software to monitor that page for changes? I did try setting up an alert with a free web service but it didn't appear to work. My shorty P bass and 5 string acoustic attempted delivery this morning - bloody quick! The van is coming back this afternoon so I have a few hours to think up an explanation for my wife... :-) -

Do you compromise "your sound" for a decent mix with band?
landwomble replied to Iheartreverb's topic in Effects
No one is listening to "your sound". They're listening to the band as a whole. In the words of Bobbie Gillespie " Don't fight it, feel it"... -
My 6 quid, 250W speakerphone and practice rig
The Ashdown B-Social and Blackstar ID Core BEAM are already doing it
They're already doing this, yes - this just lets you add it very nearly and cheaply to other amps. You could use Bluetooth from bass to amp I guess but it would be easier to use existing wireless transmitters and receivers though I guess. -
This arrived today - it's a 6 quid stereo bluetooth adaptor - it charges up by micro USB, lasts around 8 hours and has a built in microphone. I've plugged it into the aux input on my TC Electronics BG250 and I can now stream music to it from my phone wirelessly for practicing. It also turns the bass amp into a 250W speakerphone...! Similar devices available on the Bay of E like this: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item35dd95a8ea Just leave it tucked in the back of the cab or velcro somewhere convenient and you don't have the hassle of wires whilst practicing at home. I'm quite chuffed!
