1.
I have just got in from a gig at a venue I have played many times. My sound was absolute crap.... and I am p*ssed off.... Not something that I do very often! It dawned on me when driving home, how much money I have spent on gear since deciding to go 'lightweight' at the end of last year. When I used Trace gear, which I did for 20 years, I rarely had to do much more than a little tweak here and there. For the past 7 or 8 months, I seem to have done nothing but twist EQ controls.... trying to get a decent sound. Am I alone in this? Do I have to go back to a heavy rig to get a sound that is consistant from week to week? Has anyone else had a similar journey?
Amen brother... I have made the same journey allbeit over a much shorter period of time and in reverse. I went for the Lightweight solution from the off with Markbass and loved it till I tried a few Valve amps and now I will just live with the weight issues because the tone is just there, maybe have to back the bass off or up the mids sometimes to match the room but I do that on the bass not the amp. The amp just sits there doing it's thing. With the markbass I was always twiddling and trying to stop booming or trying to get a nice fat tone and God help me if I dared to switch some effects on in the chain.... back to twiddling to compensate

 3.
I don't think it can be taught. Feel is mostly about attitude, so you either get it or you don't. But I think it can be learned.
+1 I agree wholeheartedly with this... I think initially it is easier to to get the "feel" right for a genre of music you feel passionate about
 4.
Hey guys Im looking around at 5 string basses at the moment, and something struck me when I watched the Ernie Ball demos on youtube...the Sterling/Stingray is a really nice 5 string! Has anyone tried comparing the two? The Sterling is the more aggressive of the two, with in-series pickups, and different pickguard. Also, slightly lighter? I think thats the main difference. I already have two Stingrays...so I think Sterling might be a nice option. I still want to test some Lakland 5's though (DJ and JO). Any views on these two instruments as a 5 string option? Thanks
Before you make a decision go and try a Bongo first, yes I know the looks aren't to everyones liking (I love em) but they are gorgeous to play and they can do all the different tones... It's right up there near the top of my shopping list
 5. Alex... could you put me after Sean Robbinson as he is only a couple of miles away in Rotherham... would make more sense I can just nip round and pick it up Cheers Glyn

 7. I could probably bid on it by shouting through the bedroom window but all my dosh is earmarked for a certain MATAMP GT200 and 8x10... wont have any spare till next month damn!!
 8.
Pretty much established my Matamp is not as loud as it should be so its gonna go off to a tech. Might need new valves, so what is the current ones to have? Can't be dealing with this NOS thing, so modern ones, but happy to spend some on nice ones, anyone tried the new Gold Lions?
I'm sure you already know this but I was nattering to Geoff at matamp and he says they are using JJ Tesla KT88's... in fact that is what is going in mine.
 9.
Hi, i think its definitely a logic i want to avoid, im basically looking for suggestions really for things to try with the most i can spend being 1400. It has being useful already as with Chris_Bs post as to be honest id forgotten all about Thunderfunk. As i say i am very tempted by a Gallien Krueger however want to get my hands on one first before investing and looking around a new one is only £820, so i aint going to turn my nose up at saving £600. Thanks for bringing that up though and giving me the chance to clarify on it, i dont really like the thought process of i have x amount so im going to try my very best to spend x amount
I'm guessing because I can see Huddersfield in your info you must have either decided against Matamp or already own one. Anyway it would be my first choice (and was ) GT200 ... come to daddy

 18. Line 6 Basspod XT Pro + Gator 4U rack for sale Basspod in Mint condition with box and manual currently housed in a Gator 4U rack that is in good condition although used I got this to use as a DI because my love for vintage valve amps mean either mic'ing up or using a DI inbetween. This thing is awesome but just too much so it is going to have to go so I can get a DHA or Sansamp insead £175 ovno I haven't bothered with pics cause we all know what they look like Price reduction edit
