2. That did absolutely nothing for me at all, strikes me as someone stuck inside his own head and as long as he thinks it sounds good thats ok Stone me if you want to but thats my take on it
3. I have never played a 4 string in anger... I have tried them at Jam nights and such and always trip up and end up playing the A string as E if I relax and stop concentrating My first bass is the bass I have now, a 5 string Warwick Corvette "no 5 no jive" Just to add to this... I notice that when I learn basslines it's natural for me to learn them half way up the fretboard whereas 4 string players nearly always default to the first 5 frets
4. I run through a planet waves tuner and ebs multicomp (which is transparent on the settings I use) bit it gives the soundman a lot easier time during the second (rockier) set when I tend to dig in more. Just bought a bottom feeder which I use for "Shot the Sherrif" but it does add to the sound and it actually boosts rather than thins Am going to play with chorus and octave at some point as we do a few numbers that would benefit from filling out the sound as we have no keys. I am of the mindset that less is more... having the pedals just effecting seems good to me and although the effects are on they are not in ya face
5.
8< My last band used to throw in slightly obscure songs but made sure they fitted well with other material and were good dance songs. 8<
We do that in our band, although not all dancy numbers... i.e. We do Mexico as a James Taylor number and Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan we are just rehearsing Distant Sun instead of Weather with you
6. Thanks for reminding of my fave era of music, since you posted it I've learned "message to you Rudy", "Lip up fatty", "Night boat to Cairo", "tears of a clown" and I'm just struggling with the fast bit of skinhead moonstomp lol Currently composing an ad for partysounds to see if there are any twotone era tribute bands that want a bass player... OMG I love ska/rudeboy
7. Cheers for the help guys... the more I listen to the these guys the more I like the bass
8. Youtube vid The bassist sounds like he is droning two strings at 35 secs and 53 secs but for the life of me I cant work out what they are... us bloody newbies eh? If anyone knows this or has the skills to work it out without too much effort I would be grateful Thanks in advance
9. Feb 8th best for me as gigging on 14th and 21st and I'm always wasted the day after a gig (no energy)
10. Distant Sun by Crowded House... We have just decided to put this in our set list, WOW what a bassline, here comes that learning curve again lol
11.
Some fine select places even serve 'Scallops', one slice of 'tater and covered in batter just so folks think your rich enough to eat real fish cakes
Eyup s'thee... that's a tatie scallop, a fish scallop has two bits o'tatie wi a bit o fish in't middle... bloody furriners
12.
I think they'd be happy if you just brought your buns
"We're going to need considerably bigger buns...."
13. Wow a bass bash that I wouldn't have to drive 400 miles round trip to... Definately count me in, would be happy to help in any way I could
14. As per subject really... Has anyone done this without all the sound effects and if so did it sound empty, if so it might have to be "hammer to fall". My choice for the bands next new song to learn and I fancy doing something else by Queen other than "Crazy little thing" which I dont mind playing too much but would prefer something with a bit more oomph Any advice would be welcome especially based on experience
15. We played a bloody marathon at the New Barrack Tavern, Sheffield last night... or at least it felt like it. 3 sets 32 covers including encores with me just starting to recover from gastric flu and the singer with a sore throat. At least I managed without the crib sheets which was a bonus as I left my glasses on the side at home lol
16. Welcome Craig, I'm pretty much a noob here too but met a few of he folk and spoke to a few more. The skiils and advice available here seems endless... really helpful. Rotherham eh? Just up't road from me then (Wombwell)
17.
Looks like I am single now too! Still, bass is better, isn't it? (Humour me)
errrrr... How do I put this...
18.
I've avoided putting my pennyworth in thus far, so as not to make moral judgements - although I was within a whisker of being scammed for a Wal Mk 1 Custom on ebay a couple of years back and well annoyed about it. But having met and traded with Rob twice, I can say that the integrity and compassion for fellow bassists he's shown here comes as no surprise to me. Nice one man! NB; I'm sure there's material for an episode of "Spooks" here - just need to find a Russian angle somehow..........
Waste of time... with no Connie how is it going to work?
19. Sorry I didn't make it guys... I left work at selby and joined the A1 north into nose to tail traffic so there was no way I was going to make it there and didnt have the message WH sent me with the numbers on.
20. Buy with confidence from this basschatter... a true gent
21.
Which Alex? We have several......
I think it was our man in the cabinet, he is refering to. )
22. Thanks guys... Have done some noodling with your suggested settings and it sounds great, backing the bass output off also makes it less enthusiastic. Well recommended that man )
23. If anyone is at a loose end tonight come and have a listen... Mainly "grown up" pop music and a wide selection of stuff. Generally a good night's entertainment. We usually kick it off around 9 ish
24. OK, I got my shiny new Bottom feeder today... No manual with it so I was wondering if one of you knowledgable types would explain the purpose of the controls. I want to achieve a subtle wah effect. I also have an EBS multicomp on my pedal board too if this will help tame the beast <crosses fingers>
25. Got room for a little un from Yorkshire Might not be able to get there for the kick off but deffo there for 7.30 ish my gear is in the sig
