1. Just shows how little I know then **note to self (must learn to keep gob shut)
no, they're MEC
2. Heard "Boogie Nights" on the radio yesterday and just sussed it today... I must say on the Corvette it sounds perfect if I dig in over the bridge pick up and the intro sounds lovely and glassy, I think I'm gonna have to get the band to consider some disco classics
3. BEAUTIFUL wood... They don't look like MECs to me either, some type of soapbar (Barts) maybe?
+1 that is a stunning bit o' timber. Those pups don't look like standard MECs either.
4. I was looking at this only yesterday... After a bit of digging around I found a company called musicgaurd which seemed to offer the cover I wanted but having no experience of them I am continuing to look around
After seeing this; http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457811, I was wondering if Basschatter's have records of serial numbers and descriptions/photo's of their gear, just incase this ever happened. Also, do you have proper insurance to cover all eventualities?
5. Keep your eyes open on ebay for warwicks... Corvette standard has growl and sustain by the bucket load, neck is the D shape rather than C but if that isn't a worry for you then it would make a fantastic next step, hell there are even streamers going for that at the moment Pro's - Wonderful tone, punchy, actions go quite low, will hold a note long after your finger muscles give up the ghost, built like a tank, hold tuning for ever, great user forums Con's - Wonderful tone (just the one), built like a tank 10lb to 12lb depending on wood used PS This advice is worth what you paid for it )
6. Blood and Sand BNT I bet your winter evening just fly by lol
7. James Taylor... "Mexico" to be exact
8. Fretless... ...If only Glad you had a good one anyway
9. LOL Actually the playing went ok apart from me playing 2 or 3 bars of "how sweet it is" a semitone down cause I was gettin blinded by the DJ's several million candle power lighting rig and because of the floorspace constraints I couldn't stand anywhere near my amp to hear myself. I'm sure it will get a lot better when I learn how to play lol
10. My first wedding gig last night... 1) Arranged with groom to be there at 6pm to give us enough time to set up and sound check - Hotel wouldn't let us in the room till 6:45, did sound check playing 1st number "Aint no snshine" 2) Told by hotel droid that we would have to set up between these two fire doors but not to encroach on egress of doors - 5 piece band on 15ft x 10ft patch of carpet 3) Timings are just a joke at weddings 4) Endless trail of drunken wazzacks trying to ask us to play really sh*t songs while we are still playing These are just a few of the minor irritations we encountered, I can see why we charge a lot more for weddings and parties now
11. Try the Markbass "Jeff Berlin" 1x15 astounding clarity and awesome volume. I have the Gain set at 50% for the DI to PA and very rarely need to turn the master volume beyond 20%. Even when not going through the PA I have an Ashdown 1x15 that I sit under it so I can use the full 500W and move some air and very rarely need above 30% of its capability... Oh yeah and you can carry it in one hand
12. Thanks everyone for your help... looks like I just need to experiment moving the amp round first then
13. A question for you seasoned giggers... Last night we played a gig in a barn LOL (yes a barn) stop laughing at the back. Anyway, we set up on a raised concrete area as a sort of stage inside a huge barn and did a few selected parts of various numbers to get the sound check done, however, every time I hit a "C" I got a kind of booming feedback kinda thing coming out of my amp. This happened across all the octaves I tried altering the EQ but either I was missing the frequency due to lack of knowledge/experience or something else was at fault... Is this something that you get a lot or what? This was only my 4th live gig and so still on a steep learning curve My rig was as follows Warwick corvette > Digitech Bass squeeze (level 75%/Xover @ 12 o'clock/lowcomp 40%/highcomp/25%) > Markbass 1x15 (Jeff Berlin) + Ashdown 1x15 cab +> DI to PA Any help or advice would be appreciated
14. If it's natural wood finish i.e. no paint or laquer I prefer to use a product sold in Wilkinson stores. It's a beeswax based wood conditioner and it cleans at the same time which the warwick wax doesnt seem to do. The stuff I get is bright yellow and comes in a little clear plastic tub about 3" diameter and 2" high, I think it was around the £3.00 mark but it lasts ages and smells better then the warwick wax too
I should get my $$ on Sat from Jane Ten Floors, but he never got the care kit for it. And I was wondering what should I use to wax it? Should I go out and invest in the recommended Warwick stuff which is pricey or is there is a cheaper alternative I can use, eg some clear beeswax that you can get at most hardware stores??
15. I have 3 compressors here I suppose, one of them being in the bass pod xt In my limited experience of compressors: Digitech Bass squeeze - Bit finicky to get set up right but works well Line 6 BassPod XT - Works very well and really easy to use, but I suspect other wizardry being used to fatten the tone on the compression EBS Multicomp - Awesome bit of kit, almost invisible (best setting = tube), sound guy loves it to bits, it just makes things sound right
16. Convesation taken to PMs You have mail
17. Anything on the pod with Brit in the title, or probably "live at leeds" at a guess
18.
I know this is a completely unrelated point to this thread but I have the same set-up but with the Jeff Berlin combo, and it is ace but I will now be unable to shake off the monkey thing...it is a poweful image. Just out of interest what settings do go for on the eq? Sorry for the interuption to this otherwise great thread?
If it helps, I run jeff berlin combo with an ashdown 1x15 (so 2x15) on a flat EQ with 20% VLE filter on and plenty of volume lol
19. Mine gets gigged once a week and played every day and I wax it once a month, I've only had to take one ding out and only stripped it back with wire wool once in the 7 years I've owned it. Oh and btw... Last Saturday we played outside in a marquee and it was bloody freezing cold, I tuned once before each set (2 sets) and both of the guitarists were all over the place lol
20. I did quite a lot of research and playing of Warwicks before I dived in and bought one.. The reason behind me just getting the natural finish was that if the bass gets grubby or dinged judicious use of an Iron and some brown paper will pull the ding back out and zero grade wire wool sorts the finish out a treat. Waxing regular is the key though, and although Warwick supply their own wax with the bass there are better cleaning beeswax products out there to keep it looking spik n span. The Warwick forums off their main site is a fabulous source of info and tips and tricks Just buy it and enjoy the GROWL lol
21.
Hi guys Which oil stain finish should I go for?! P.S; is waxing/caring for the natural finish a bit of a chore or is it easy to do?
I prefer the natural swamp ash colour on Warwicks, comes up beautiful after waxing, and to be honest I find the waxing very soothing
22. OK guys and gals I have been toying with the idea of a new bass for while now, and since I just joined a working band the need for a second bass is good enough justification I LOVE the Bongo so there is the dilema... H/HS/HH/HH w-piezo (what on earth does the piezo do anyway) Can anyone with experience/expertise/opinion give me some pointers please. (Waits with bated breath)
23. Hello there, Is this cab still for sale?
