A 2.7 ohm cab seriously limits your choice of amplifier you can use it with since not many amps are 2 ohms stable. Unless you have or are gonna buy a 2 ohm stable amp, steer clear. IMO.

Good choice!

Rare as in seldom seen hanging in a shop.

A SLO Special doesn't have a Sterling neck of course. A Sterling has a 22 fret neck, A Ray has 21 frets. These are not interchangeable. A SLO has a nut width just like Sterling. SLOs are rare, last year however Esse Music in Italy had two (HH models) in stock... I had some serious doubt buying one of these instead of my Sterling.

To muddy the water even more, the reissued Sabre bass is awesome too. It's now discontinued but can still be found without too much trouble. Trouble however is that's much more expensive than either a Sterling or a Ray. Size-wise it sits between the Sterling and the Ray, same goes for the neck width. When I bought mine a new Sterling was 1640 euros, a Sabre weighed in at 2390 euros. A lot more money for another variation on the MM sound. Bought the Sterling instead, no regrets whatsoever. Did replace the black PG with a tort one however. Totally forgot about the SLO Special. If you want that one you have to order it, these are almost as rare as hen's teeth.

A nice comparison between the two: https://www.youtube....h?v=9bMdGguCNbc I bought a EBMM Sterling 4 for that sound in a sleeker package and a J-like neck. While they do not sound exactly the same, make no mistake about it, the Sterling is a full bore MusicMan bass just like the StingRay. Awesome basses regardless of which one you decide on. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:191117] AFAIK the three band EQ in Sterling is the same as the three band StingRay EQ. Two band vs. three band is a hotly debated issue among its users, let's not go there...

There's a lenghty thread on TalkBass discussing the aural enhancer: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/swr-aural-enhancer-bypass.643201/
yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with getting the cleanest DI signal I can from any bit of kit. I spend a lot of time recording through various setups, and can't be doing with noise.
Why not invest in a half decent DI? I've made my own, details here: http://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=36569.0 This is mine:

It will not make it sound like a different amplifier. Mine still sounds like an SWR FWIW, only a bit nicer. Thanks for mounting the opamps in sockets SWR! WRT SWR's running hot, that's by design! In my WM12 there's a pair of 5W resistors sharing a load between them, they can't be touched with a bare finger when it's running. I've wondered what would happen sound quality-wise if I would replace all its beige body 5% resistors with 1% metalfilm resistors. Probably not worth the hassle...

I've read that Steve W. Rabe is retired. So no more SWR gear to be expected from him, he probably may not be allowed to even use the SWR brand name anymore. I have a 1996 SWR Workingmans 12, still sounds great! I did modify it a bit. Replaced all the TL072 opamps with TLE2072's and replaced the two 4700uF PSU caps with 6800uF ones. Speaker-wise it's equiped with a Celestion K12T-200.
MM usa Sterling is even more versatile'er'er ....?!? Amongst a few changes from the stingray, The pick up toggle gives absolute versatility. http://www.music-man...basses/sterling Strung with flats, i just cannot rate this bass highly enough.... Same scale length but shorter end to end, jazz profile neck, very light, transparent clear tone or deep gut punch, it does it all. Personally, id never have a ray over a sterling. Can be picked up for silly money too £600-950 (Get back in ye pram! I said personally! Hahaha)
Nice bass! Love the colour. Matching headstock too?
Is that with an EMG replacement for the original PUP , and another in the HH position? Got any pictures? As I was half debating whether to do this to mine - EMG MM PUPs don't seem to have a lot of love , but I'm really interested in how this mod pans out
Probably this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS-tpgPFUpI

Nice, those two basses. I bet the import duties aren't.

Strings and hands play a large role in the sound you're gonna get. I bought mine (ebmm Sterling 4H) just to get that signature sound. I don't want or need it to sound like a bass I don't own (ie. a P-bass), besides there's no substitute for the real thing. Could I be happy with just the Sterling? No, that's why I have a DJ4 too. No matter how you EQ it, the Sterling just can't sound like a J-bass, likewise the DJ4 can't sound like my Sterling. A MusicMan bass in general bites and barks like there's no tomorrow, it can be tamed but sometimes you need someting more docile.

Esse Music in Italy has a white pearl/rosewood StingRay Classic, and a few other non-Classic SitngRays.

Nice! They should make a DJ-Sonic too...
