I had an old Trace Elliot 1210 but sold it. This is making me extremely nostalgic. But i really don’t miss the load in / out.

The basic unit is great , but the footswitch controller gives you ultimate control. I use mine for band practices without a drummer and small gigs, which is when it comes into its own.

If you want something that is great out the box, and you can control easily, check out the Singular Sound Beat Buddy.

Wow, that’s a great demo of the SYB-5 . I used to have one, but sold it, as it was too temperamental for me. I found you have to be really careful with each note, particularly muting, otherwise it glitches. That video is probably the best demo I’ve heard, and even then you can hear a few notes glitching out. I’d say it’s a great pedal, but it needs a lot of work from the player to get the best out of it .

Ah yes, obviously if you have back problems, that is far more important. Please be assured my comment was in now way meant to be derogatory . The Sterling Sub is about 4.5kg, so sounds like that might be too heavy for what you’re looking for. If weight is your issue, then that should trump all, and get a really light bass - you have a really valid reason to spend a bit of money. But it sounds like you already have a light bass, so probably know what you’re looking for. Or what about playing sitting down ... drummers do it all gig long 😂

My son got a Sterling Sub 5 last year, and for the money, it is incredible. I have a Stingray and honestly speaking, when comparing the two, the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard at £400. Buy with confidence. It plays like a dream. The neck is chunky, a bit like a P-bass probably, but feels solid as a rock. I don’t find it heavy and I see someone else has given you a weight. As with all 5-strings get a good strap and make sure you’re fit , and all should be good. For build quality, sound and playability, I can’t really fault it, probably not as good as a Ray, but not light years apart. As for value, for £400, the Sterling Sub is off the scale.

My son bought the Musicman SUB 5 for £399 new, and for the money it is incredible. Obviously there are minor build quality differences with a real Stingray, but this is obviously a sweet spot where diminishing returns kick in.

Been a while since I gigged my Sandberg

For live gigs,. I've just changed all the intros to a click, hi-hat or kick drum, or a 1/2 bar intro. It mixes things up so it doesn't sound too repetitive, but still ensures the band have a reference. Then if it starts with a solo instrument, I either keep the tempo going with a hi-hat or similar, or just go for a stop/start with the footswitch.

I have the standard one and added the footswitch. The footswitch is a really neat addition as you can start / stop songs instantly, move on to the next sing without bending down, and randomly add accents. If you can get the Beat Buddy going through a good PA, it sounds incredible. It's tight as a gnats chuff, and it doesn't need a cut of the pay.

I use a Beat Buddy for rehearsals when our drummer doesn't come, and also for smaller gigs where there isn't enough stage for a full kit. I'd go as far as to say, that was the best £250 I ever spent. Awesome idea, and it gets better the more you get used to using it.

I love the DG Hyper Luminal.

Nice quality set up. What's the pedal board and the power supply.

I've tried quite a few picks, and the ones that stand out for me are the Ernie Ball Prodigy picks. They grip well like the Dunlop tortlyte picks, but the bevelled edge is such a simple idea that works really well. Thicker picks are a lot easier to use as they bounce nicely off the strings, and no chance of the picks bouncing out your hand. The only downside is the cost, and the bevelled edges eventually wear down. Everyone I've lent one to hasn't given it back and my son is forever pinching them , so it's costing a small fortune (slight exaggeration ).

I assume anyone buying this pedal has to be a West Ham fan, or not give a stinky poo about football. Nope , claret and blue 💩

I have an OC-3 and am trying to use it to create some synth type sounds. I am getting some good sounds out of it, but every now and again I'll get some random overtones, almost like the pedal is squealing out some random notes. Does anyone have any good tips when using the OC-3 or any decent settings? So far, the best I can come up with is: try and avoid having 2 notes ringing. It seems to work best if I play on one string only, but that can't be right. Oct 2 mode:. 12oclock, 12oclock, off Poly: 12oclock, 12oclock, on full, Drive: work in progress

The 'little things' that make bass life better!

Incredible bit of kit. It definitely isn't pricey for what it is, although you could easily break the bank on the premium packs as they are soooo good. -

Definitely the Beat Buddy. Ultimate practice tool at home, can easily stand in for when your drummer can't make it to rehearsal, and it is giggable. -
Nice set up. What is the chain and how are you using the Line Selector?

I have the new Rammstein album on repeat. I'm sure my neighbours like it. The album is a masterpiece and the best music released in 2019 by a country mile IMHO. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

That sounds like a P-bass or a Stingray then . Obviously you have to play before you buy as personal taste is key. or just go for the Sandberg VM and get a very good Ray-P hybrid. I love Sandbergs.

I have version 2 I think as it is the most current. I don't know anything about v1 so can't compare.

Yes, you can edit the drum sequences as much as you want. I have edited quite a few drum patterns, but probably only scratched the surface of its capabilities . I couldn't recommend it highly enough, even if just as a practice tool, and I'm sure other BB users will say the same. The stop / start function on the additional footswitch is a real nice bonus.

I think it's good, although reckon I'm only scratching the surface. Once you open the guts of a drum track, it's probably the same as any other drum machine software, and you can pull it apart as much as you like (change time sig, change no. of bars in a sequence, add in various drums/cymbals and change the impact, etc.). It sounds best if you use the pre-recorded patterns as these are recordings of real drummers, so it has a really good feel. Plus you can control it as a pedal which is a nice touch. It works well as a bass player, because you control the drum fills. I usually stop playing any time I cue a drum fill, as I control the stop/start.
