I’ll raise you…!

The PU’s are laid out like a Rickenbacker 4005. It’s wired stereo. Neck pu has plenty of bass and the bridge pu has the crunch. I run effects mainly on the bridge PU when I use them. Mix at the amp settings to my pleasure. In stereo mode, there isn’t any scooping…of course…in mono there is.

Further testing today. I added a nut to the output jack so it wasn’t so high on the control plate. And..I had to insulate the jack area from the paint-on shielding. It was shorting out the treble PU. It seems to have a very different sound from my other walnut bass of the same basic design. This one has a Maple/ebony P neck and new and improved PU’s. It sounds like it has more low end from each PU. Especially the neck PU. Played through this rig. Very smooth sounding if that makes sense. Especially for Rotos. More testing required. I’m taking it to rehearsal tomorrow. Also, for single coil PU’s, it’s very quiet…at least in my house… Thanks for your interest

I installed the PU’s today…tested. It actually plays very good with minimal adjustments. No shim. I lowered the strings a bit, a 1/4 turn on the truss rod. Sorry, I took minimal pictures.

The custom PU’s have shipped.

Received an email today apologizing for another slight delay on the PU’s. He is out of the fiberboard for the bobbins… It was very nice that he notified me.

I did a set up this morning. I set the intonation by eye the other day…it was surprisingly close!. I filed a couple of the nut slots..they were very close too. I adjusted the nut height, slowly, not to take off too much. I still could do that a little bit again. The truss rod needs a slight turn. When I put in the PU’s I’ll do that. Still waiting on those… I’m thinking of doing a curved filing at the truss rod on the body so I can adjust the truss rod easily. I’m sure I’ll look for a case or gig bag soonish…. I had a Warwick bass with a very nice gig bag(leather). I would like something like that but…$$$ The bass plays very nice. The maple/ebony AllParts neck is nice.

Well, I couldn't sleep...so I got up and did stuff to it...the bass! Finished the wiring, it's very simple. I'm still waiting on the PU's. Fitted the nut, put on a set of cheap strings. Installed the string retainer. Rough tuned it up. Of course it needs a set up and nut adjustments. But it plays. I'm letting it sit overnight for things to settle in. A bass is born…

I mounted the switches and output jack.(leaving the tape on for protection). Mounted the bridge A first for me…actually connecting the bridge, PU cavities and control area by a wire… Still having fun!

Machine heads mounted. It hangs nice with a strap! I’m thinking one will have flats and one bass with rounds. Bridge and some wiring tomorrow. A nice head on shot. I’m having a blast.

I started assembly today. I mounted the neck, strap locks. Working on the machine heads now.

Painted shielding crap in the cavities. Nasty stuff. Polished it up a bit too.

I could probably make a nut and certainly have before. But I bought one of these nuts for another bass…it played very good as it was. It’s hard to beat that!

I’ll be patient with it! But I actually put on a couple more coats today!. Ha! I’ll probably have to wait a week or more for it to harden! Thanks!

The neck plate came today. I’m just waiting on the pu’s and the nut. The first nut I received was a little disheartening…

After 7+ coats, I may just let it harden up and buff it out in a couple of days. It’s very hard being patient waiting on the pu’s. I don’t want to bug the guy building them… Maybe I’ll start the wiring on the control plate. I can install the machine heads too. Gig this Sunday. I’m retired…so there’s lots of time to do stuff.😎 I also got a new pedal top play with. An early birthday present to myself. Electro-Harmonix Strings-9. It’s pretty cool!

5-6 coats of finish now. Most of the parts are here now…except the custom PU’s😐 I did this minor task this morning.

Ya, it wouldn’t be my first choice of woods…but the price was right and works for me as a great project!
