Excellent price for an excellent bass. Have this bump on me.

If I see one in Shoreline Gold, the wallet's going to be out again

I've got to say that's awesome after sales service. Might have to nip down to the local musicroom see if they've still got a copy.

Hello hitchy. You'll get all the tips you need here. Don't ignore the elderly threads, they are a goldmine of good stuff.
I wouldn't worry about age, I returned to the fold after a 22 year absence at the age of 45 (I still think I'm 23 though). -
I only ever changed mine when they all started to sound the same..........I'm not sure that makes sense but I know what I mean. Time wise about every 2 years or so.

If you make a real hash of anything, give the guitarist a narrow eyed, menacing stare. Then roll your eyes at the punters as if to say 'why am I working with this amateur'. Used to work a treat for me, then again that was the eighties and my main achievement would have been arriving at the gig upright.

You see kids, this is what happens when you spend all the Bank holiday drinking

They were all playing at the same time and oddly it sounded like there was only one of them. I like it when there's more than one on the band because they despise one another so much it saves everyone else the trouble.

Saw a 70's cover band last night that consisted of a drum machine, a bass player and four guitar players. Surely that's not right

First was a Kay Rickenbacker copy bought from Sounds Great in Heald Green not long after it opened. Guitarist persuaded me to put a new bridge on which was slightly too wide so I kept pulling the E and G strings off the edge of the neck.
Second was a Burns Flyte which to my shame I treated despicably. I'm hoping to dig out a picture of this for 'then' and 'now' photos on the show us what you look like thread.
I made such a mess of the Burns that it got swapped for an active Westone (don't know which one, would have been the cheapest available in 1983/4)
Never previously had more than one bass until I signed up here...now I have three and a despairing wife. -
Madonna - Music (dunno why)
Joe 90 Theme and I'm In The Mood for Love - Lord Tanamo (got to learn them) -
I bought the same combo off Soundslive last week and all seems fine. Haven't taken it to rehearsals yet so I can't comment on it's performance anywhere near top whack.
I made the same mistake with the EQ and didn't realise it had to be switched on - the last combo I owned was a Wem Dominator, things were much simpler back then.
Wife and 9 year old son inquired as to why I hadn't read the manual first but what do they know. -

My band is just starting to look for gigs in around Salisbury. As anyone any recent experience of gigging in the area. Any thoughts or advice welcome.
-
If you ever heading up towards Salisbury let me know. If I could organise a lift I'd come and take these off you - might be a bit much to lug on back on the train

Thanks for the support - really quite touching. The bands hoping to start gigging in September - mainly to give me time to get up to speed. Will be in the market for a lightweight rig in the next few weeks. I'm already negotiating for a more 'retiring' back-up/replacement for the Thunderbird with another forum member.
-
Nice to know ther are few returning bass refugees out there. A eye-popping change in the gear and the amount of it available. Seeing the lightweight amps and cabs was the biggest revelation. Also rehearsal rooms seem to be a lot cheaper and better equipped than I remember.
Now I've just got to get the hang of this forum malarkey -
Hello one and all
I've just started playing again after a gap of 22 years. Used to play in a pub rock/covers nand back in the mid-eighties. Gave up playing for various resons. Bought myself a Thunderbird copy in a mild fit of mid-life crisis a couple of years ago. Came out of "retirement" and started rehearsing with a band a couple of weeks ago.
Will need a shed load of advice on amps etc. as things have moved on somewhat since 1986. I had a WEM dominator (50 W, Valves) back then and for bigger gigs was lucky enough to be able to use Graham Gouldman's (10CC) backline. Haven't got a clue about it all now. -

I would be more than happy to buy this off you if it's still for sale

Welcme Spyke. I did 15 years as a professional archaeologist before jacking it in. I'm also crap. But no longer pretty.
