  1. The price is well made too. 🤯
  2. I understood that, no worries, I've done the same a lot.
  3. Not a perfect match at all, but a match, as the knobs have a shade of magenta in their colour, but it may be a brownish hue as the white balance of the photo isn't right.
  4. An early Fender, of course !
  5. I've been setting up instruments for more than 35 years including a decade as a professional, so it means thousands of instruments, and sometimes a shim is needed for two main reasons : - The neck tilting, as there must be one to allow some dynamic. - The break angle at the saddle, as there must be one otherwise there won't be enough pressure meaning the string will get out of the slot very easily and the string will sound almost dead or really dampened. If these two points are met, no need for a shim, just remove it and set up the instrument perfectly.
  6. As I wrote, it all went wrong in the 90's and don't talk about social medias, shows and store since the 90's. I was so fed up by this really bad slap everywhere that I stopped going to the shows in the late 90's and just couldn't keep my mouth shut in the stores. I hate slap because of all these abuses, but when it serves the song, it can become really interesting, but it's so rare. Only a few players have the ability to turn slap into music and we all know their names.
  7. I think it's the 6181 25K model, Kevin. 😉
  8. The RMC/Hipshot bridge will be far better. 😉
  9. I was using my DP127 with the good old DP123 Jazz Bass and the balance was perfect with the DP127 a bit more away from the strings than usual. Otherwise, you could try the DP 147 which has a similar output level.
  10. Delirious ! I need one !
  11. Nope. He doesn't have a mono eyebrow.
  12. But ToneRider do.
  13. Ask @Andyjr1515 if he can put you some Luminlays, it will be cheaper and faster to do.
  14. If you put your headless bass between your legs instead of on a thigh, it won't move at all. That's the way I play almost all my basses, but headless ones seem to be even more suited for this.
  15. Beware all, you are slowly starting to say that the sound comes from the wood... Beware.
  16. Mine didn't collect anything as they were in their hard cases until I sold the all shebang a few years back.
  17. Not really, see my above comment.
  18. Excellent job. Looks even better than new. 😉
  19. As @Woodinblack said, everything is fine with Bax until there's a glitch and then the nightmare starts. I ordered a Sire P10 in early September that was in stock, then after a few days, not seeing anything moving I gave a phone call, waited the 30 minutes, got a very sympathetic guy who told me that my order had been cancelled because of the payment method chosen (!?!) but never got any message saying that... So I ordered it again and paid through PayPal this time, then got the usual message saying that everything was ok with a delivery date chosen by me on the following week, and then the delays started almost each and every day for a few weeks !!! After some time, I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. And the nightmare started: phone calls with the same sympathetic guys, promises, emails never answered, ... So I ended up opening a claim by PayPal and they waited until the last day before the claim becomes official and legal to refund. Never again !
  20. So, it all went wrong in the 90's when throwing basses in the stairs was supposed to be slap... 🤦🏻‍♂️ And where is Alain Caron, one of the slap masters ? That said Level 42 was not a pop group at all at the start. 😉
  21. There's an AER Basic Performer in the Amps for Sale section at a very nice price. These are even better than the Amp One, Two or Three. Weight is 23 kilos for 240 Watts and it's really really powerful. I own one as well as an AER BassCube.
  22. Sting is a small player. Patrick Hernandez earns the same as he does with Every Breath you Take with his Born to Be Alive one hit single and gets enough money each day (around £1000 GBP a day with just one tune !) to live very well and still being a simple man. That said, his wife is a hell of a manager and is assuring their wealth with a clever marketing of that unique one shot hit single. If that is what makes a genius, then this guy is a true one.
  23. Don't bother with overpriced pickups, simply buy a set of ToneRider, they are as good as any boutique pickup, or even better, and you'll pay the right price. There's no magic about pickups, and it's funny that people can argue about them and consider the wood as absolutely not part of the sound. That said, indeed, only the best examples of old Fender's have made it through the years, the rest were just cheap mass produced instruments that were bad back then, so you can thank time making his work, letting them disappear. And yes, Leo Fender was the king of cheapskates. I've played a lot of awful sounding vintage instruments. It's not because they are old that they are good ... and certainly not better. For the asking price, I would go to a luthier and have 4 basses way better built.
  24. This is even the first JP Basses built by Pete Skjold bearing #01 : https://www.talkbass.com/threads/official-jpbasses-club.316236/page-12#post-15721028 Here, the No Treble announcement from 2011 : https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2011/09/10/skjold-design-to-revive-jp-basses-this-fall/ Here is the website from 2016 when he started proposing the Denoncourt series : http://web.archive.org/web/20160408021046/http://www.skjolddesign.com:80/basses
  25. JP Basses is Jean-Philippe Ferreira brand and he's French, not Italian. Skjold didn't build basses for him, but bought all the rights when Jean-Philippe Ferreira stopped hand crafting them. Pete Skjold is now the only person in the world allowed to build them under his brand and in the Denoncourt Series. JP Basses are also amongst @skelf favourites. This very model is a first generation Denoncourt JP Basses Zia 5. 😉 Here is the link to most of Jean-Philippe Ferreira production : http://www.jpferreira.fr/pics/JPBasses Museum/
