You have all the proofs before your eyes that, at least, one person was playing slap before 1968 on a bass. Here, the more modern technique is referring to tapping not slapping. That said who gives a f*ck about knowing who was the first to use slap... You know some unknown manouche guitarist certainly did some slap on his guitar way back in the 1940's without knowing that he invented a new technique. Even if you have footage and evidences of the fact that Larry Graham already played slap in 1960, you'll keep denying the facts, because you've found that 1968 footage of a guitarist slapping a note (that nobody here can see) on a 1982 tune !?! Ok, now for the slap thing, Larry Graham who is considered to have invented the slap technique as we know it has developed it in ... 1960 and used it on the first record of Sly and the Family Stone in 1967, so before this pseudo 1968 footage. The band started touring in 1966 with Larry Graham already slapping on electric bass. Here's Larry Graham himself explaining the genesis of the modern slap technique and especially why: He used the slap intensively on the next album called Dance to the Music and released in 1968.

@bagsieblue Does it work now ? That said the difference between the single coil and parallel mode can sometimes be very hard to hear, but come close to a screen or a transformer and you'll instantly know which one is engaged. 😉

IIRC you have to dial in a new secret code and pull that slider to "memorise" it. By default it's not set at all.
