  1. Try a set of ToneRider, dirt cheap and excellent sounding. https://tonerider.com/product/jazz-plus/?v=d3dcf429c679
  2. Indeed, there are 3 factors to consider : price, space and power consumption. And even if a full transistor preamp will sound way better than anything, all parameters will be on the far right indicator. That said, I've tried almost every onboard preamp and, to date, the best one and most transparent is the Richter BassXX which is a ... filter-based cleverly designed preamp with surface mount components. http://www.richter-ee.de/preamps1.html
  3. Try a pure transistor approach, it takes much room, but sounds way better than any opamp...
  4. If you want THAT Acoustic 360 sound, dial the mids full on, the bass around 2 o'clock and the highs around 10 o'clock, and just the volume needed to start very very slightly distorting : you'll be amazed. Use the tone knob on your bass too to adjust the mids projection (the more you cut it, the more it does, until a certain point).
  5. That said, the bass strapped much higher will avoid her a huge double tendinitis (elbow and shoulder). 😉
  6. Skunk stripe is for maple fingerboard by Fender, not rosewood, that here looks like ebony... The Fender plate is not correctly positioned, clearly a DIY thing. To me it's an assembly with a non Fender neck and certainly a non Fender body. The knobs are simply metal ones. A common change by Fender users to make it à la Jaco Pastorius.
  7. No, only to the one(s ?) knowing that the slices of wood were intended for marquetry.
  8. The electronics nerdery is very interesting, and everything on this bass build is simply amazing. Can't wait to see and hear the final result. And I'm getting more addicted each time...
  9. The VAT has been paid outside the U.K., at least once, but not in the U.K., so HMRC needs to get it back, even if in this particular case there is absolutely no added value, but that's the way it works, hélas.
  10. Urm, urm, why not be proactive and simply put a note in your advert when you're selling something saying you're outiside U.K. or simply check if this item you must have is in the U.K. or elsewhere. If it's elsewhere, you'll have to pay the VAT, the incoming taxes and the adminstrative fee. There is no need for such a caution, just a bit of common sense. That said, a lot of private people are just not selling anymore to the U.K.
  11. That said Jonas Hellborg is composing on bass and he has composed a lot !
  12. Sting has gone to the dark side of music a long time ago.
  13. This was the typical 90's stack, so I don't see why there should be a problem as millions of bassists have done it for years. Go on mate.
  14. Yes, on the back of it, there's more space. 😎
  15. Certainly most of Mark King own compositions like the famous and a pleasure to play "Dune Tune" or "43" and a few others.
  16. I don't think that it's what really happened. In fact as he bought through a U.K. VAT registered society (shop if you prefer), it was sold without the U.K. VAT and he just paid the French VAT, which means no difference for him.
  17. I'm totally addicted to this thread ! 😊
  18. https://www.basschat.co.uk/store/ That said, you have to know where it is hidden... 🤣
  19. Maybe you should put another one under the strap, just in case. 🤣
  20. This is quite a love or hate affair with this bass. Impressive woods, for sure ! How much does it weight ?
  21. Damn, she is wearing a hat and she can really sing. Is it a sexual offence ?
  22. Indeed Douglas, but some people don't know they have to click the link. That said, put your smartphone horizontally and you'll get a lot more informations. 😉
  23. Not at all, this strings spacing thing for pickups is just pure marketing. If the sensing area is large enough (which is the case here) all strings will be covered. You have to remind the way a pickup works. The simplest I can do is this : when the metallic string is moving it perturbs the magnetic field generating an induced current on the output. The pole pieces don't need to be aligned with the strings perfectly. Think blades instead of pole pieces and you'll get it.
  24. I was about to ask you what was the felt tension of the different strings, but you beat me on it. That said, it is really helpful for someone with a well trained and still working ear. Again, I don't think many musicians test their ears each and every year. I must be an isolated case. 😉
