My first long lasting rig back in the mid 80's was a Carlsbro Sting Ray head with its matching 4x12 fitted with original Fane speakers. I toured, rehearsed, recorded, ... with this rig for around 10 years and then gave it to a young guy beginning guitar as it was a multi instrument head (just like they used to do back in the day). It was really sounding amazing, especially on fretless. Replaced by a tiny SWR that was also awesome. I also had this Peavey rig that was really good.

I ordered two sets of Fodera AJT28125 by Lord of the Strings in the Netherlands on the 19th of August 2020. I just tried to fit them today and in the two sets the A strings are completely dead (no harmonic at all, sounding like 10 years old strings) and even worse, the D string in one set has been more than badly wound (see pictures) ! At 82,60 Euros per set, it's a shame that there's absolutely no quality control. I've been using Fodera strings for years and it's the first time this happens ! I'm waiting for their reply and the one from Fodera...

Looks like the pianist decided to slow down the tempo a lot. So you can hear every non-note rising and decaying perfectly. A true genius pianist ! Some purists might want to throw him stones...

They totally screwed the piece when adding the second pipe by their emotional shaking. They ruined it as there is no vibrato on the notation. Amateurs !

Side by side pickups is not a good idea, the magnetic field of the ... magnets could be so high in the nearby position that you'll start having intonation and frequencies cancellation problems.

Strange as I emailed John East for a technical question about his piezo preamp about a month ago and like you didn't get any answer. I'm a bit concerned about this as he answers very quickly most of the time. Maybe @skelf could reassure us about John East ? That said it looks like the P-Retro is out of production...

I'm using Fodera strings for this purpose, but here is what Thomann is proposing : https://m.thomann.de/gb/search.html?categoryKeys=GISAEB5S&maxPrice=46&q=5+string+high+c+set&s=price But you can also buy a regular 4 strings set and add the extra high C needed if the brand sales single strings. D'Addario, Kalium, Newtone and Elixir are the easiest to deal with for this and you can even create your own set with the gauges you want by these brands.

If your bass head is angled, no need to put a new nut. I did it very often as I tend to prefer a high C on a fiver than a low B. So not a big deal to do. I think it's harder to find a 5 strings set with a high C than doing the conversion itself. 😉
