If your jack is loose, then it's dead, especially if it's a barrel type. Otherwise, you can tighten up the lugs by pushing them towards the center.

Go the shop with your complaint file, show it to them and tell them that they can't sell the bass again. You have to supply your ID when selling items to Cash Crooks and Friends. The 3 best clip-on tuners are the TC Electronic UniTune, the TC Electronic PolyTune if you can find them as they seem to have disappeared from 5he shelves or the excellent Peterson StroboClip HD (if you like the strobo tuning). Don't forget to read the manual as they all have a dedicated bass mode. They will certainly look expensive, but they are simply the best ones available on the market.
