How close are your pickups from the strings ? If they are too close, it could be the issue as they will interfere with the vibration of the string simply because of the magnet(s) power. I've got some early Q-Tuner pickups that have very powerful magnets, so I had to lower them a lot (twice my usual reference).

I prefer "Basse contre basse" with Alain Caron on bass (mostly fretless) and Michel Donato on double bass, splendid interaction between the two, and almost a duet album with only percussions added by some obscure players (I'm kidding). 🤗

Thanks, it will be bass, more precisely 6 strings fretless bass. It's a bit more challenging. Maybe they will refuse me, but at least I would have tried.

They tell that it's hard to study after 40, quite strangely, I've been studying all along my life without any problem. Maybe because I love that.

Yes, Jack Bruce, but there is no entire album on fretless, but his way playing was a great source of inspiration for me. He was also a great vina player, an Indian instrument. His first Warwick Signature model was a terrific bass. On the double live album Cities of the Heart with Gary Moore, Ginger Baker, Simon Philips, François Garny (another terrific bass player) he is playing a lot of fretless, just like on Sometin Els.

That's indeed a Godin, you are right. Maybe he burned my bass after what I told him.

I'm preparing my entrance examen for the conservatory as it's about time to sum up all my knowledge at 53 years this August. I'll have to play 3 jazz standards. I thought that these 3 standards would be perfect : Take Five (I can easily solo on this one), Autumn Leaves and All Blues. If you have any suggestions, they are welcome.

And probably with my former Leduc 6 strings fretless that he still owns and I always told him when he still was on some forums that he was playing too many notes, seems like I was right as this what has upset at least 2 band leaders...

What you call a lot of excursion is simply due to the fact that, now, for an unknown reason, your string is really moving freely. The chorus effect is certainly a twisted when fitted string, quite easy to correct, simply release the tension and put the string backwards a bit, you will notice that it's twisted. It's not against you, but a lot of people including some repair shops are mounting the strings by turning them around the post, so twisting them and thus creating that chorus effect (which as you wrote could also come from a too close pickup). If you mount your strings this way, it's ok as long as you untwist them the way I explained above.

And yes the first two albums are the best ones : Adolescent Sex and Obscure Alternatives, still lots of rebellion in the music.

Francis Moze also played bass in Magma and was terrific.

It's also the best shredder album, the only one that still is audible nowadays. That said, Devin Townsend never appeared on Passion & Warfare, but on the next one, Sex & Religion, which is real deep sh*t, especially the awful singing of Devin Townsend and I'm not speaking of his solo work which is even worse : circus metal as I called it at the time.

To me, Mick Karn's best album is Bestial Cluster. Terrific mastering of the Wal and extraordinary compositions as usual.
