Is this normal? Sandberg Zero-Fret Content
Hellzero replied to cLepto-bass's topic in Repairs and Technical
In fact, it's a zero nut. -
Add the fact that sometimes the Italian blood still running in my veins can take over, and you get the explosive image of a person like me. Add also the fact that I was born and raised in a region called "La Gaume" where the saying "Quand dje'n sa rin dje'm ta" meaning "When I know nothing, I remain silent" is applied all of the time being a way of living, and you'll get some explanations about my character. Furthermore add the fact that being fluent in English, German, French and Italian does not help here, because what I wrote is what I intended to say. My apologies to @Grangur if I hurt him. I'm guilty for being myself, but this is me and I'm not going to change a thing about it as it would be like lying to myself (sorry for being redundant) and it would be boring for you (and me, of course). Case closed ?

Kiss you all, even if I'm not lost in translation, but I know I'm a bit harsh when saying things. That said, concerning the possible breaking on the post with too long strings, it depends on the strings. The Thomastik JR are absolutely not sensible to this problem, but the Fodera are especially the B string...

A great seller and a top quality bass : https://www.bassic.de/kleinanzeigen/verkaufe-yamaha-trb-jp2.13858/
-
I know the seller, the guy is highly trustable and he takes great of his gear. The price tag is also quite low and you'll have to wait at least 2 years to get a new one : https://www.bassic.de/kleinanzeigen/leduc-masterpiece-fretless.13859/

As you already own a Wal, you won't be disappointed. It is the one made for ACG indeed. I sold mine last year because I had no need for such a preamp. You can do the Wal thing with this and a lot more. There is (was ?) one for sale here : I think, you'll get it cheaper by ACG : http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg-eq01-filter-pre-amp/

What's the point of your message ? Could you please explain, because I really don't understand ? Someone is asking for help. I had to search for these medium scale strings too, so I just add the fact that Fodera is making some too and giving a link where to buy them. I'm not affiliated to Fodera at all and find their instruments retail prices awfully way too expensive and absolutely not justified, as I'm not affiliated to Thomann preferring Music Store in general. But their strings are well made, sound very good and are at a decent price compared to other makers as they are sold at £29.83 GBP (who cares if it's "label engineering" made in China or anywhere else as long as they are suiting what they are bought for). I've tried them so I'm not speaking in the absolute emptiness. By the way, the computer, laptop, phone or whatever you use to type is totally made in China, like 80% of the consumers products we all use. So tell me where really is the point of such a message like yours ?

Fodera is also making medium scale strings : https://www.thomann.de/gb/fodera_5_string_set_medium_heavy_b_ss.htm

You can purchase it here : https://www.banzaimusic.com/Schaller-E-Bass-bridge-2000-5-string-Black.html

Got this in a recent trade, 14 mm strings spacing at bridge, 8 mm strings spacing at nut, 6 strings and 32 3/9 inches scale ! Status Electro 6, just like the one Jonas Hellborg used to play.

Do you need something to iron your clothes on ?

Isn't it a dancing avatar or was I too subtle ?

Let's dance !

@Grangur Yes we are way out of topic and we don't use the same classification, so let's stop as we know each other what we are willing to say and have a drink. Cheers mate.
-
Ok, I now understand what you meant. The problem is again classification which by French speaking or Latin originated languages is divided in four groups : hard woods, soft woods, fruit woods and resinous woods. Balsa being classified in the soft woods (it's even the softest wood to date) like basswood, alder, maple, poplar, ... In fact, the classification you use is the basic one dividing the trees in two parts : deciduous leaves opposed to evergreen.

In fact, it should even be et caetera desunt which means and the rest is omitted. It became et cetera desunt, than et cetera and ended up as etc. Classical studies always leave some scars.
-
@Grangur Hum, I think we are not talking about the same wood (balsa) and hardness along with softness are the correct words to describe one of the wood characteristics as this is one way to summarise them by botanists : http://www.wood-database.com/balsa/

Yes, it's a dummy coil for the hum cancelling as the pickups are single coils. This is what explains, partly, the fantastic sound that the Leduc's are renowned for. The level of craftsmanship is the other as Christophe is focusing his lutherie to the fundamental of the notes heard, not the first harmonic.

It's a Harley Benton : https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbz_2005fl_nt_deluxe_series.htm Some strange beliefs are living hard. If you want to have that characteristic mwah that everyone is waiting for use roundwounds, the fretboard is made for it except if you buy a fretless from a crazy maker who uses soft wood. Take a look at my yellowish Leduc over here or the other one shown a bit upper, they have been used heavily for 20 years for the yellowish and close to 30 years for the other with roundwounds : there are only slight marks after 20 years of intensive use that will disappear after a very slight dressing. And almost nothing after 30 years of moderate playing. These marks don't affect the playability or the sound at all.
