    Hum, with a Baxandall EQ you "cut" the mids when boosting the highs and lows which is THE sensible point of a fretless, the place to create the sound. If you want to have your fretless really singing, the key frequency is 800 Hz, so it's better to have a 3 bands EQ with an 800 Hz boost because a 2 bands EQ Baxandall type won't do the job here...

    It's not really fretless shopping as you didn't buy anything. The problem with fretless basses is to find some to try in shops, but you were lucky, I would say. If you want to buy a very good bass, just try the second hand luthiers basses, they are the best you will find as they resell for peanuts. Be patient, look here on BassChat and everywhere else and you'll get the right one.

    Vintage market is becoming the "try the highest price tag possible" place and without any arguable reason. It's not because it's old that's it's better on the contrary... To me it's really worth 1/100 of this stupidly high price, these guitars are as close to perfection as a Wishbass is.

    Cellos are intended to be played with a bow at first and every bowed instrument is made that way. A flat table instrument used with a bow will create so much low end vibration that the table would explode or at the best deglue. It's the same for double bass which was originally intended to be played bowed as all the quatuor instruments as they are called. Now you've got the explanationfor the archtop construction.

    Yes, had the big version EU with magnetic pickups a long time ago. Putting T.I. Spirocore on it will dramatically improve the sound, but I'm quite sure you'll have to put 3/4 on it. My actual Leduc 6 strings EUB has a regular 3/4 scale and it's a 105 cm or 41,34 inches scale (yours is 106 cm or 41,73 inches, so the same). I think you better ask Ned Steinberger directly to be sure about the type of real acoustic strings you can put on it as the money involved here is not a few quids...

    Like it a lot, very nice job, but having an acoustic sounding loud enough can't be achieved with an archtop which will be more focused on mids, that was your only "mistake", even if I don' t like the word in this case. Put a Fishman BP100 in (on will be more appropriate) it and you'll have a very very good sounding bass, I can swear it as your conception will ccorrect the default of the BP100 which it's tendency to be a bit muddy.

    Having tried a few, avoid the very low cost ones. I own a Stanford B61-5CM which is a terrific instrument with standard 9/18 mm strings spacing and just a volume. The low B is precise and clear, but not powerfull, the rest of the bass is very well made in ... Europe. It's the "low cost version" of the Furch Durango B61-5CM. It's more than what you expect to put in the market, but it's worth the money.     At this price tag, it's a gift, even at full price, could be worth looking at it. The Stanford-Furch has an advantage which is the regular string spacing at 9 mm at the nut and 18 mm at the brigde, so an easy to play instrument...

    Having troubles with Outlook, I went to Gmail, what a bad idea : there's an automatic feature by default that erase your trash, fine, but don't push erase when there's nothing in the trash, it will delete the reception page showed. Not so funny ! I think I'll go back to Thunderbird in the end, which is what I use on my Linux based PC without a single problem. That said for my Android and Windows machines I switched backnto the new version of Outlook, sometimes a bit slow, but not stupidly automatic designed by default.
