Nickel pressurewound 5 string sets, what's out there?
Hellzero replied to franzbassist's topic in Accessories and Misc
And Alembic strings, which as opposed to what might be read are not GHS Pressurewound strings as they are smoother to the touch with more brightness in the tone. That said, they are not that easy to find, are quite expensive ... and tend to rust quite quickly (that's nickel). https://www.rocketmusicshop.com/products/alembic-cx-3-45lb-5-string-bass-strings -
Do you have a multimeter @ltank? When yes, unconnect an official "Mesa Boogie" speaker and measure it, then give us the resistance reading. You won't have the exact impedance of the speaker (which is a way more complicated process), but you could know it by this reading. If it's an 8 Ohms cabinet, why the heck is there one 4 Ohms speaker in it? Are you sure it's an 8 Ohms cabinet?

It's about time to sell these strings as I will not use them anymore. All are broken in, but with plenty of life, except one brand new DR Strings Legend FL .125 B string. Price (90 EUR) is for the whole job lot and does not include shipping that will be at cost. No sale per unit. Price is in Euro and is a fourth of the new price. Note that I won't accept anything else than Euro as I'm in the EEC (Global price in GBP is totally wrong). D'Addario ECB81-5 Chromes, 2+3 cut, almost new. D'Addario ENR71, Half Rounds, Fender cut, broken in. DR Strings FL5-45 Legend Flatwound, 2+2 cut almost new + brand new B. Thomastik JF344 Flatwound, 34 inches scale headless cut, broken in. Fender 9050 E string before 2010 + Thomastik JF344 A + D + G strings Flatwound, 2+2 cut for a 33 inches scale bass, totally broken in.

I'm a huge fan of all British Supertramp albums, I mean everything before Breakfast in America, they were really excellent with great harmonies and over the top compositions. Crime of the Century is certainly my favourite album. It took me years to be able to listen to Breakfast in America as it's been overheard.

The most important thing is that you like it and if it's a YOB bass, that's even better, especially in this close to excellent condition! These years weren't always the best as it was the total recession at Fender and they were close to bankruptcy, but there were some excellent (heavy) instruments made during that "Dan Smith" period. Some instruments of that peculiar period are really sought after as Dan Smith, who has been heavily criticised, was willing to raise the standards and innovations to what they used to be, but, hélas, totally failed. Congratulations!

It's a legit 1981 Fender Precision Bass. This is confirmed by the date code of the volume potentiometer (6th week of 1981) and the stamp at the back of the pickup. The sticker that should be at the back of pickguard has simply been moved in the neck pocket because of the full aluminium shielding. The grain of the wood as well as the typical sunburst is another evidence as well as all the body routings and the two routings at both ends of the neck pocket.

That's because we are so used to see a chrome plate on these Fenderish bodies... Try to put some chrome knobs first, it will surely improve the look.

Now, I understand your definition of clean @uk_lefty. 😉

Great little combo, I've used the original (non Fender), while playing as a semi-pro, for years and it has always sounded amazing with my fretless bass. I've always been complemented for my tone with this little beast. Great pick.

Just to confuse the “Tone” debate further!
Hellzero replied to Velarian's topic in General Discussion
That said, there's a huge difference between the two takes, but where does it come from is a total mystery as it's a complete anti-scientific approach... 🤦🏻♂️🤔 -
@cetera Did you ask @Andyjr1515 ?

Translucent pickguards give a more transparent tone, it's a known fact. -

Ok, you gave the answer: DHL! When it comes to "exporting" parcels DHL is a real pain in the derrière as they seem to have no real service for that. I've had parcels stuck at their "customs" service for a week or two before they are cleared and I live in Belgium, the country just nearby, so imagine a real customs clearance... You'll have to wait at least another week.
