Thinking of taking up playing 6 string Bass?
Hellzero replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Jaco played some fivers in his career and never pull out the frets himself, but bought the bass already defretted. He simply put tons of (boat) epoxy paint on the neck to make it playable and took it to a gig: the rest is history. Having an utterly over dimensioned ego, he pretended afterwards that he had the idea of pulling out the frets himself as it helped having an even bigger aura on the music scene, so he became what he wanted to be: a god. -

On an island far away, at least for me. -
Amazing 😍😍😍😍

A great bassist for sure with that terrific P-Bass tone (even if I really can't stand Morrissey). May he rest in peace.

Try to put the strap the other way round on the upper horn, to the front not the rear, I always found the bass was better balanced this way. 😉 Nice photo, that said.

Easy, as there is one: Michel Hatzigeorgiou. -
@Dood Could it be worthy if we all watch your (to me at least) excellent reviews on your YouTube channel ? Do you get some income from the online bass magazines you make the videos for if we all watch them too ? Just in case, here is the link to most of @Dood reviews: Maybe a mod could highlight this excellent thread and put it on top. Calling @ped for this...

Bassist assaulted mid-gig by singer in Manchester

You won't be alone anymore @Marc S 😂 -
Are you talking about AC himself? 😈

You're complicating the idea. Simply use your active/passive switch to have two different tones: a passive tone with all the balls, and a darker tone in the active mode. Then just flip the switch for these two different tones that you can still adjust in the active mode. A passive tone in a separate box will be a real pain in the āss, as the tone will vary with the cable length due the passive path being high impedance (loss of highs linked to the length) and very sensitive to the capacitance of the cable used too, so the tone itself can change very quickly depending on the length and type of cable used, and I don't even mention the buzzing and earthing issues you'll get: forget it.

Just in case you didn't notice, it's a vertical playing instrument, Mick. An instrument for the lazy people, it's all about patterns, in fact. Also check Anthony Wellington's explaining the modes, you'll be amazed. It's an hour lesson that could have lasted 10 minutes, but those guys know how to earn their money. 😉 I have a simple Excel file (two in fact as it can been seen from two different points of view) explaining the same, but you first need to understand the pattern. -
An F-Bass, he has a few signature models, right? 😈

You may also choose the stacked volume and tone per pickup à la early Jazz Bass plus the 3 bands EQ coupled to an active/passive switch. Easy to use and understand. I would avoid the Aguilar OBP-3 for a lot of reasons, the first being its total lack of transparency and the fact that it's too powerful meaning that just touching one control already means too much of anything. But it depends on what your looking for: if it's a take that in your face approach, the OBP-3 is perfect, if it's a very slowly fine tuning EQ, you'll be disappointed.

Vintage bass combo with 'vintage price'
Hellzero replied to 3below's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
But Carlsbro were great. My second amp was a Carlsbro Stingray Super head (I know it's a guitar head) with its dedicated Carlsbro 4x12 (guitar too, I know) cabinet fitted with Fane speakers. I did a lot of gigs with it and weirdly it was sounding terrific with my fretless basses. Could you also please stop putting an unnecessary "o" in the name! Thanks. -
A broom with strings.

Chris showing us how to break the fretless playing mold.
Hellzero replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
This is how I play fretless too, but there's a lot of classical vibrato in here, and tons of mwah, so that typical growly fretless sound. Excellent stuff for sure, but what else would you expect from George Duke and Christian McBride, but what a fantastic drummer indeed! -
So why spending time writing this then. Maybe you don't remember but Stuart Hamm started out of the blue too and without some helping hands called Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, he would still be putting gas in cars... Loris Tils has his YouTube channel as well as Bandcamp, there are numerous videos, and albums to listen to. According to your reasoning, you only listen to people you know and refuse to discover the others, very odd argumentation here, and I've been accustomed to better than that. Furthermore it's a way more interesting project than simply another (boring) album as Stuart Hamm said all he had to say with his two first solo albums...

Because icon? 😂

Stuart Hamm certainly doesn't need the money, that's why I slaughtered him. So, people are prepared to give money to someone who doesn't need it, but not to someone entitled to ask for it and giving more for your money. It's not hypocrisy, it's common sense. Loris Tils needs the money for his new record, so be a community and act the right way.
